SAFETY
ROLL-OVER BARS
System which protects all of the oc-
cupants restrained by their seat belt
should the vehicle roll over.
The roll-over bars are incorporated in
the back of the rear bench seat. Their
presence is indicated by the words
"Rollover Protection".
Activation
They are triggered simultaneously
should the vehicle roll over.
Operating fault If this warning lamp comes on
on the instrument panel, ac-
companied by an audible sig-
nal and a message on the
multifunction screen, contact a
PEUGEOT dealer to have the
system checked. In order to guarantee the correct
operation and the deployment of
the roll-over bars if roll-over is de-
tected, the following conditions
must be complied with:
- no accessory which is not
recommended by PEUGEOT
should be in contact with or
fi x e d t o t h e r o l l - o v e r b a r s ,
- no object should block or stop the movement of the roll-over bars,
- the area above the roll-over bars should be clear of any objects.

SEAT BELTS
Front seat belts Seat belt not fastened/unfastened

Fastening
Pull the strap, then insert the tongue
in the buckle.
Check that the seat belt is fastened
correctly by pulling the strap.
When the ignition is switched
on, this warning lamp comes
on, either on the instrument
panel or on the seat belt and
passenger's front airbag warn-
ing lamp display, if the driver and/or the
front passenger has not fastened their
seat belt.
Unfastening
Press the red button on the buckle.
Guide the seat belt as it reels in.
1. Front and/or rear seat belts not fas-
tened/unfastened warning lamp.
2. Front left seat belt warning lamp.
3. Front right seat belt warning lamp.
4. Rear right seat belt warning lamp.
5. Rear left seat belt warning lamp.

The corresponding warning lamp
2 or 3
comes on in red on the seat belt and
passenger's front air bag warning lamps
display if the seat belt is not fastened or
is unfastened.
From approximately 12 mph (20 km/h)
t h i s w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s f o r t w o m i n -
utes accompanied by an audible signal
of increasing volume. Once these two
minutes have elapsed, this warning lamp
remains on until the driver and/or the
front passenger fastens their seat belt.
T h e f r o n t s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a p r e -
tensioning and force limiting system.
This system improves safety in the front
seats in the event of a front impact.
Depending on the severity of the im-
pact, the pretensioning system instantly
tightens the seat belts against the body
of the occupants.
The pretensioning seat belts are active
when the ignition is on.
The force limiter reduces the pressure of
the seat belt on the chest of the occupant,
so improving their protection.

Rear seat belts

either on the instrument panel
or on the seat belt and pas-
senger's front air bag warning
lamps display, when one or more rear
passengers unfasten their seat belt.
From approximately 12 mph (20 km/h),
t h i s w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s f o r t w o m i n -
utes accompanied by an audible signal
of increasing volume. Once these two
minutes have elapsed, this warning
lamp remains on until the one or more
rear passengers fasten their seat belt.
Fastening
Remove the strap from the guide A
before use.
Pull the strap, then insert the tongue
in the buckle.
Check that the seat belt is fastened
correctly by pulling the strap. Seat belt unfastened warning lamps
d i s p l a y
When the ignition is switched on, with
the engine running or the vehicle mov-
ing at a speed below approximately
12 mph (20 km/h), the corresponding
warning lamps
4 and 5 come on in red
for approximately 30 seconds, if the
seat belt is not fastened.
When the vehicle is moving at a speed
of more than approximately 12 mph
(20 km/h), the corresponding warning
lamp 4 or 5 comes on in red, accompa-
nied by an audible signal and a message
on the multifunction screen, if a rear pas-
senger has unfastened their seat belt.
Unfastening
Press the red button on the buckle.

The driver must ensure that passen-
gers use the seat belts correctly and
that they are all restrained securely
before setting off.
Wherever you are seated in the ve-
hicle, always fasten your seat belt,
even for short journeys.
Do not invert the seat belt buckles as
t h e y w i l l n o t f u l fi l t h e i r r o l e f u l l y .
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n i n e r t i a
reel permitting automatic adjustment
of the length of the strap to your size.
The seat belt is stored automatically
when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that the
seat belt is reeled in correctly.
The lower part of the strap must be
positioned as low as possible on the
pelvis.
The upper part must be positioned in
the hollow of the shoulder.
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n a u -
tomatic locking device which comes
into operation in the event of a colli-
sion, emergency braking or if the ve-
hicle rolls over. You can release the
d e v i c e b y p u l l i n g fi r m l y o n t h e s t r a p
and releasing it so that it re-winds
slightly. In order to be effective, a seat belt
must:
- be tightened as close to the body
as possible,
- be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement, checking that
it does not twist,
- be used to restrain only one person,
- not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
- n o t b e c o n v e r t e d o r m o d i fi e d t o avoid affecting its performance.
In accordance with current safety regu-
lations, all repairs and checks must be
carried out by a PEUGEOT dealer who
guarantees that the work is carried out
correctly.
Have your seat belts checked regularly
by a PEUGEOT dealer and particularly
if the straps show signs of damage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water or a textile cleaning product,
sold by PEUGEOT dealers.
After folding or moving a seat or rear
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt
is positioned and reeled in correctly. Recommendations for children
Use a suitable child seat if the pas-
senger is less than 12 years old or
shorter than one and a half metres.
Never use the same seat belt to se-
cure more than one person.
Never allow a child to travel on your lap.
In the event of an impact
Depending on the nature and se-
riousness of the impacts , the pre-
tensioning device may be triggered
before and independently of the air-
bags. Triggering of the pre-tensioners
is accompanied by a slight discharge
of harmless smoke and a noise, due
to the activation of the pyrotechnic
cartridge incorporated in the system.
In all cases, the airbag warning lamp
comes on.
Following an impact, have the seat
belts system checked, and if neces-
sary replaced, by a PEUGEOT dealer.

If at least one of the two airbag
warning lamps come on continu-
ously, do not install a child seat on
the front passenger seat.
Have the system checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.
Operating fault
If this warning lamp comes on in
the instrument panel, accompa-
nied by an audible warning and
a message in the multifunction
screen, contact a PEUGEOT dealer to
have the system checked. The airbags
may no longer be deployed in the event
of a serious impact.
Reactivation
When you remove the child seat, turn
the switch to the "ON" position to re-
activate the airbag and so assure the
safety of your front passenger in the
event of an impact.
With the ignition on, this warn-
ing lamp comes on in the seat
belt and passenger's front air-
bag warning lamps display for
approximately one minute, if the pas-
senger's front airbag is activated. To assure the safety of your child,
the passenger's front airbag must
be deactivated when you install a
"rear facing" child seat on the front
passenger seat.
Otherwise, the child would risk be-
ing seriously injured or killed if the
airbag were deployed.
According to version, this warning
lamp comes on either in the instru-
ment panel or in the seat belt and
passenger's front airbag warning
lamps display when the ignition is on and
until the airbag is reactivated. I f t h i s w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s ,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
The passenger's front airbag
may no longer be deployed in
the event of a serious impact.
Deactivation
Only the passenger's front airbag can
be deactivated:
with the ignition off , insert the key
in the passenger airbag deactivation
switch,
turn it to the "OFF" position,
then, remove the key keeping the
switch in the new position.

Lateral airbags
System which protects the driver and
front passenger in the event of a seri-
ous side impact in order to limit the risk
of injury to the pelvis, chest and head.
T h e l a t e r a l a i r b a g s a r e fi t t e d o n t h e d o o r
side:
- in the front seat back frame (chest-pelvis airbag),
- in the front head restraint (head airbag).
D e p l o y m e n t
The lateral airbags are deployed unilaterally
in the event of a serious side impact applied
to all or part of the side impact zone B , per-
pendicular to the longitudinal centreline of the
vehicle on a horizontal plane and directed
from the outside towards the inside of the
vehicle.

front occupant of the vehicle and the
corresponding door trim panel. Operating fault
Impact detection zones
A. Front impact zone.
B. Side impact zone. If this warning lamp on the in-
strument panel comes on, ac-
companied by an audible signal
and a message in the multi-
function screen, contact a PEUGEOT
dealer to have the system checked. The
airbags may no longer be deployed in
the event of a serious impact. In the event of a light impact or
bump to the side of the vehicle of
if the vehicle rolls over, the airbags
may not be deployed.
In the event of a rear or front collision,
the airbags are not deployed.

When parking on a slope, direct
your wheels against the pavement,
apply the parking brake and en-
gage a gear.
PARKING BRAKE
Applying
Pull the parking brake lever fully up
to immobilise your vehicle. When the vehicle is being driven,
if this warning lamp and the
STOP
warning lamp come on, accom-
panied by an audible signal and a
message on the multifunction screen, this
indicates that the parking brake is still on or
has not been properly released.
Releasing
Pull the parking brake lever gently,
press the release button then lower
the lever fully.
6-SPEED MANUAL GEARBOX
As a safety precaution and to facili-
tate starting of the engine:
- always select neutral,
- press the clutch pedal.
Only engage reverse gear when
the vehicle is stationary with the
engine at idle.
Engaging reverse gear
Raise the ring under the knob and
push the gear lever to the left then
forwards.

"PORSCHE TIPTRONIC SYSTEM" AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
F o u r o r s i x s p e e d a u t o m a t i c g e a r b o x
which offers a choice between the com-
fort of fully automatic operation, en-
hanced by sport and snow programmes,
or manual gear changing.
Four driving modes are provided:
- automatic operation for electronic
management of the gears by the
g e a r b o x ,
- sport programme for a more dynamic
style of driving,
- snow programme to improve driving
when traction is poor,
- manual operation for sequential
changing of the gears by the driver. Gear lever
P. Park.
- Immobilisation of the vehicle, park- ing brake on or off.
- Starting the engine.
R. Reverse.
- Reversing manoeuvres, vehicle sta- tionary, engine at idle.
N. Neutral.
- Immobilisation of the vehicle, park- ing brake on.
- Starting the engine.
D. Automatic operation.

Stopping the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, you
can engage position P or N to place the
g e a r b o x i n n e u t r a l .
In both cases, apply the parking brake
to immobilise the vehicle. Operating fault
When the ignition is on, the
lighting of this warning lamp,
accompanied by an audible sig-
nal and a message in the mul-
t i f u n c t i o n s c r e e n , i n d i c a t e s a g e a r b o x
malfunction.
I n t h i s c a s e , t h e g e a r b o x s w i t c h e s t o
emergency mode and is locked in 3rd
gear. You may feel a substantial knock
when changing from P to R and from N
to R . This will not cause any damage to
t h e g e a r b o x .
D o n o t e x c e e d a s p e e d o f 6 0 m p h
( 1 0 0 k m / h ) , l o c a l s p e e d r e s t r i c t i o n s p e r -
mitting.
Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
This warning lamp may also come on if
a door is opened.
There is a risk of damage to the
g e a r b o x :
- if you press the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time,
- if you force the lever from posi- tion P to another position when
t h e b a t t e r y i s fl a t .
Manual operation
Select position M for sequential
c h a n g i n g o f t h e f o u r o r s i x g e a r s .
Push the lever towards the + sign to
change up a gear.
Pull the lever towards the - sign to
change down a gear.
D disappears and the gears
engaged appear in succes-
sion on the instrument panel.
If the engine spped is too low
or too high, the gear selected
fl a s h e s f o r a f e w s e c o n d s , t h e n t h e a c -
tual gear engaged is displayed.
It is possible to change from position D
( a u t o m a t i c ) t o p o s i t i o n M ( m a n u a l ) a t
any time.
When the vehicle is stationary or mov-
i n g v e r y s l o w l y , t h e g e a r b o x s e l e c t s
gear M1 automatically.
The sport and snow programmes do not
operate in manual mode. If the lever is not in position
P ,
when the driver's door is opened or
a p p r o x i m a t e l y 4 5 s e c o n d s a f t e r t h e
ignition is switched off, an audible
signal is heard and a message ap-
pears.
Return the lever to position P ;
the audible signal stops and the
message disappears.
It is only possible to change from one
gear to another if the vehicle speed and
engine speed permit; otherwise, the
g e a r b o x w i l l o p e r a t e t e m p o r a r i l y i n a u -
tomatic mode.
Invalid value during manual
operation
This symbol is displayed if a
gear is not engaged correctly
(selector between two posi-
t i o n s ) .
To limit fuel consumption when sta-
tionary for long periods with the en-
g i n e r u n n i n g ( t r a f fi c j a m . . . ) , p l a c e
the gear lever in position N and ap-
ply the parking brake.

Front parking sensors
In addition to the rear parking sensors,
the front parking sensors are triggered
when an obstacle is detected in front
and the speed of the vehicle is still below
6 m p h ( 1 0 k m / h ) .
The sound emitted by the speaker (front
o r r e a r ) i n d i c a t e s w h e t h e r t h e o b s t a c l e i s
in front or behind.
The front parking sensors are interrupted
if the vehicle stops for more than three
seconds in forward gear, if no further ob-
stacles are detected or when the speed
o f t h e v e h i c l e e x c e e d s 6 m p h ( 1 0 k m / h ) .
Deactivation/Activation of the front
and rear parking sensors
The function is deactivated by pressing
this button. The indicator lamp on the
button comes on.
Pressing this button again reactivates
the function. The indicator lamp on the
button switches off. Deactivation/Activation of the rear
parking sensors
The function will be deactivated au-
tomatically if a trailer is being towed
o r a b i c y c l e c a r r i e r i s fi t t e d ( v e h i c l e
fi t t e d w i t h a t o w b a r o r b i c y c l e c a r -
r i e r r e c o m m e n d e d b y P E U G E O T ) . Operating fault
If an operating fault occurs,
when reverse gear is engaged
this warning lamp is displayed
o n t h e i n s t r u m e n t p a n e l a n d / o r
a message appears on the screen, ac-
companied by an audible signal (short
b l e e p ) .
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
In bad weather or in winter, ensure
that the sensors are not covered
with mud, ice or snow. When re-
verse gear is engaged, an audible
s i g n a l ( l o n g b l e e p ) i n d i c a t e s t h a t
the sensors may be dirty.
When the vehicle is moving at
a s p e e d b e l o w 6 m p h ( 1 0 k m / h ) ,
certain sound sources (motorcy-
c l e , l o r r y , p n e u m a t i c d r i l l , e t c . ) m a y
trigger the audible signals of the
parking sensor system.
The function is deactivated
or activated via the vehicle
c o n fi g u r a t i o n m e n u .
The status of the function
is stored when the ignition
is switched off.
