Special points relating to the transportation of children on thefront passenger seat* Children under the age of 10 must not travel in the forwards facingposition, unless the rear seats arealready occupied by other childrenor the rear seats cannot be used(absent or folded). In this case, adjust the front passenger seat tothe intermediate longitudinal posi-tion and leave the passenger air bagarmed. The transportation of children in the rearwards facing position is permit-ted. In this position, it is essential todisarm the passenger air bag. Otherwise, the child would risk beingkilled or seriously injured if the airbag were to inflate.
GENERAL POINTS RELATING TO CHILD SEATS Although one of PEUGEOT's main criteria when designing your vehicle, the safe- ty of your children also depends on you.
For maximum safety, please follow these precautions:
Ð Since 1992, all children under the age of 10 must travel in approved child
seats* suited to their weight , on seats fitted with a seat belt or ISOFIX
mountings.
Ð A child weighing less than 9 kg must travel in the rearwards facing posi-
tion both in the front and in the rear. PEUGEOT recommends that chil-dren should travel in the "rearwards facing" position up to the age of two.
Ð Statistically, the safest seats in your vehicle for the transportation of chil-dren are the rear seats. PEUGEOT recommends that children travel in therear even when a "rearwards facing" child seat is used.
Ð If a child is travelling on a booster seat, check that the lap section of the seat belt passes over the child's thighs correctly. The chest section of the seat beltmust be positioned on the child's shoulder without touching the neck. PEU-
GEOT recommends that you use a booster seat with a back, fitted with a seatbelt guide at shoulder level.
Ð Remember to fasten the seat belt or the child seat harness keeping the slack
in relation to the child's body to a minimum , even for short journeys.
* According to current legislation in the country.

AIR BAGS
The air bags have been designed to maximise the safety of the occupantsin the event of serious collisions. They work in conjunction with the
force-limiting seat belts. The elec-tronic detectors register and analyseany abrupt deceleration of the vehi-cle: if the triggering threshold isreached, the air bags inflate instantlyand protect the occupants of thevehicle. Immediately after the impact, the air bags deflate rapidly so that they donot hinder the visibility of the occu-pants nor their exit if necessary fromthe vehicle. The air bags are not deployed in the case of collisions which are not seri-
ous, for which the seat belt is suffi-cient to ensure maximum protection. The seriousness of a collisiondepends on the nature of the obsta-cle and the speed of the vehicle atthe moment of the collision. Air bags only operate when the ignition is switched on. Note:
the gas escaping from the air
bags can be a minor irritant. FRONT AIR BAGSThese are folded in the centre of the steering wheel for the driver and in
the fascia for the front passenger.
They are deployed simultaneously, except in cases where the passen-ger air bag is disarmed.
Front air bag fault If this warning light comes on, accompanied by anaudible signal and the mes-
sage "Air bag fault" on the
multi-function display, contact a
PEUGEOT dealer to have the sys-tem checked. Passenger air bag precautions For a vehicle fitted with a passenger air bag disarming switch:
Ð disarm the airbag if you installa rear-facingchild seat on thefront passengerseat,
Ð arm the air bag for an adult pas-
senger.
For a vehicle not fitted with a pas-senger air bag disarming switch: Ð do not install a rear-fac-ing child seat on thefront passenger seat.
Never place your feet or any objecton the fascia.
