m i n a l o f t h e s l a v e b a t t e r y ,
- C o n n e c t t h e o t h e r e n d o f t h e g r e e n o r b l a c k c a b l e t o a n e a r t h p o i n t o n
t h e b r o k e n d o w n v e h i c l e a s f a r a s
p o s s i b l e f r o m t h e b a t t e r y ,

O p e r a t e t h e s t a r t e r , l e t t h e e n g i n e r u n .
- Wait for the engine to return to idle, then disconnect the cables.

than one month.
To charge the battery using a
battery charger:
- Disconnect the battery,

F o l l o w t h e i n s t r u c t i o n s f o r u s e g i v e n by the battery charger manufacturer,
- R e c o n n e c t s t a r t i n g w i t h t h e n e g a -
t i v e ( - ) t e r m i n a l ,

C h e c k t h a t t h e t e r m i n a l s a n d c o n n e c -
t o r s a r e c l e a n . I f t h e y a r e c o v e r e d w i t h
s u l p h a t e ( w h i t e o r g r e e n i s h d e p o s i t ) ,
disconnect them and clean them.
D o n o t f o r c e t h e p l a t e a s l o c k -
i n g i s n o t p o s s i b l e i f t h e c l i p i s
n o t p o s i t i o n e d c o r r e c t l y .

To start the vehicle from another
battery: BATTERY(LOCATED IN THE BOOT) *
* V e h i c l e s fi t t e d w i t h t h e 2 . 7 l i t r e H D I
24V engine.
The battery is in the left boot trim.
To charge the battery using a bat-
tery charger (boot open):
f o l d d o w n t h e p a n e l t o g a i n a c c e s s
to the battery,
disconnect the battery,
f o l l o w t h e i n s t r u c t i o n s f o r u s e g i v e n
by the battery charger manufac-
turer,
r e c o n n e c t s t a r t i n g w i t h t h e n e g a -
t i v e ( - ) t e r m i n a l ,
r a i s e t h e p a n e l a n d c l o s e i t .
o p e n t h e b o n n e t ,
u s e t h e t w o a d d i t i o n a l p o s i t i v e ( + )
a n d n e g a t i v e ( - ) t e r m i n a l s l o c a t e d
under the bonnet,
o p e n t h e r e d c o v e r o f t h e p o s i t i v e
(+) terminal,
c o n n e c t t h e r e d c a b l e b e t w e e n t h e
p o s i t i v e ( + ) t e r m i n a l a n d t h e p o s i t i v e
( + ) t e r m i n a l o f t h e s l a v e b a t t e r y ,
connect the green or black cable
b e t w e e n t h e n e g a t i v e ( - ) t e r m i n a l
a n d t h e n e g a t i v e ( - ) t e r m i n a l o f t h e
s l a v e b a t t e r y ,
o p e r a t e t h e s t a r t e r , l e t t h e e n g i n e
run,
w a i t f o r t h e e n g i n e t o r e t u r n t o i d l e ,
then disconnect the cables,
c l o s e t h e r e d c o v e r o f t h e p o s i t i v e
(+) terminal,
r e fi t t h e l e f t s i d e c o v e r ,
close the bonnet. Before disconnecting the bat-
t e r y , y o u m u s t w a i t f o r 2 m i n u t e s
a f t e r s w i t c h i n g o f f t h e i g n i t i o n .
N e v e r d i s c o n n e c t a t e r m i n a l
w h e n t h e e n g i n e i s r u n n i n g .
N e v e r c h a r g e a b a t t e r y w i t h o u t fi r s t
disconnecting the terminals.
O p e n t h e w i n d o w s a n d c l o s e t h e s u n -
roof before disconnecting the battery.
I f t h e y d o n o t o p e r a t e n o r m a l l y f o l l o w -
ing reconnection of the battery, they
m u s t b e r e i n i t i a l i s e d ( s e e p a r a g r a p h s
" R e i n i t i a l i s a t i o n o f t h e e l e c t r i c w i n -
d o w s " a n d " S u n r o o f " ) .
A f t e r e v e r y r e c o n n e c t i o n o f t h e b a t -
t e r y , s w i t c h o n t h e i g n i t i o n a n d w a i t
1 m i n u t e b e f o r e s t a r t i n g t o a l l o w t h e
electronic systems to be initialised.
H o w e v e r , i f s l i g h t d i f fi c u l t i e s a r e e x -
p e r i e n c e d a f t e r t h i s , p l e a s e c o n t a c t a
PEUGEOT dealer.
On the 2.7 litre 24V HDI engine, if there
is no battery in the boot, do not con-
nect a slave battery to the positive (+)
and negative (-) terminals under the
bonnet as a short circuit may occur.
The batteries contain harmful
s u b s t a n c e s s u c h a s s u l p h u -
ric acid and lead. They must
b e d i s p o s e d o f i n a c c o r d a n c e
w i t h r e g u l a t i o n s a n d m u s t n e v e r b e
d i s c a r d e d w i t h h o u s e h o l d w a s t e .
