Operating fault
When a malfunction of the system oc-
curs, the warning light comes on, ac-
companied by an audible signal and a
message on the multifunction display.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have
the system checked. Instrument panel indicator light.
The ESP offers exceptional
safety during normal driving,
but this should not encourage
the driver to take extra risks
(late braking) or drive at high
speed.
Correct operation of the system depends
on compliance with the manufacturer's
recommendations regarding the wheels
(tyres and rims), the braking compo-
nents, the electronic components and
the PEUGEOT assembly and operation
procedures.
After an impact, have the system
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer. ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS)
The ABS increases the stability and
manoeuvrability of your vehicle on
braking, in particular on poor or slippery
road surfaces.
This system comes into operation
automatically when there is a risk of
wheel lock.
Normal operation of the ABS may
make itself felt by slight vibrations of
the brake pedal.
This indicates that the ABS is
faulty.
It comes on on the instrument
panel screen also.
If it comes on permanently above
6 mph (10 km/h), it indicates an ABS
malfunction.
However, the vehicle retains conven-
tional servo-assisted braking.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
EMERGENCY BRAKING ASSISTANCE SYSTEM
In an emergency, this system enables
the optimum braking pressure to be
reached more quickly, thus reducing
the stopping distance.
It is triggered by the speed at which
the brake pedal is activated.
The effect of this is a reduction in the
resistance of the pedal and an increase
i n b r a k i n g e f fi c i e n c y .
When braking in an emergency, press
fi r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g t h e p r e s s u r e .
In emergency braking, press
v e r y fi r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g
the pressure.
Note: when changing wheels (tyres
and rims), make sure that these are
approved.

Front/rear * side air bags
The side air bags protect the driver and
passengers (with the exception of the
rear centre passenger) in the event of
a serious side impact in order to limit
the risks of injury to the chest.
Each side air bag is incorporated into
the front seat back and in the rear door
armrest * .
Activation
The side air bags are deployed inde-
pendently of each other in the event
of a serious side impact applied to all
or part of the side impact zone B , per-
pendicular to the longitudinal centre-
line of the vehicle on a horizontal plane
directed from the outside to the inside
of the vehicle.

It is deployed at the same time as the

Impact detection zones
Curtain air bags
The curtain air bags protect the driver
and passengers (with the exception
of the rear centre passenger) in the
event of a serious side impact in order
to limit the risks of injury to the head.
Each curtain air bag is incorporated
into the door pillars and the upper part
of the passenger compartment.
In the event of a malfunction
Instrument panel warning light.
If this warning light comes on, accompa-
nied by an audible signal and a message
on the multifunction display, contact a
PEUGEOT dealer to have the system
checked. The air bags may no longer
be deployed in the event of a serious
impact. In the event of a minor impact
or bump to the side of the
vehicle or if the vehicle rolls
over, the air bag may not be
deployed.
In the event of a rear or front collision,
the air bag is not deployed.

Gear selection gate
Move the lever in the gate to select
a position.
The indicator light corresponding to the position selected appears on
the instrument panel screen.
P ark: to immobilise the vehicle and to
start the engine, with the handbrake on.
R everse: to reverse (select this position
with the vehicle stationary, engine at idle).
N eutral: to start the engine and to park,
with the handbrake on.
Note: if position N is inadvertently
engaged while driving, allow the engine to
return to idle before engaging position D
then accelerate.
D rive: to drive in automatic mode.
M anual: to drive selecting the gears.
S: sport programme.
: snow programme.
"PORSCHE TIPTRONIC SYSTEM" AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
The four or six speed automatic gearbox
offers, as required, the comfort of the
auto-adaptive programme enhanced
by a selection suited to dynamic driving
conditions: sport, or to driving on a
slippery road: snow.
However, manual selection is still possible
using the gear lever.
Moving Off
With the engine running, move off from
position P :
to exit position P, it is essential
to press the brake pedal,
select position R , D or M , then
gradually release the pressure on
the brake pedal; the vehicle moves
off immediately.
To move off from position N :
with your foot on the brake, release
the handbrake,
select position R , D or M , then
gradually release the pressure on
the brake pedal; the vehicle moves
off immediately.
Starting the engine
with the handbrake on, select position
P or N in the gate,
turn the ignition key. When the engine is at idle,
brakes not applied, if position
R , D or M is selected, the
vehicle moves even without the
accelerator being pressed.
Do not leave children unsupervised
inside the vehicle, with position
R, D or M selected, with the engine
running, as the vehicle moves
even without the accelerator being
pressed.
With the ignition off, if the
lever is not in position P , an
audible signal is heard when
the driver's door is opened, or
after approximately 45 seconds. Move
the lever to position P . The audible
signal ceases.
When maintenance operations need to
be carried out with the engine running,
apply the handbrake and select the
P ark position.

CRUISE CONTROL/SPEED LIMITER Selecting the function
Place switch 1 in the CRUISE
position. The cruise control is not
yet active and no speed has been
memorised. The display indicates:
Switching the function off
Place switch 1 in position 0 or
LIMIT to switch the system off.
Note: It is possible to acceler-
ate and drive momentarily at a
speed greater than the memo-
rised speed. The value memo-
r i s e d fl a s h e s . W h e n t h e a c c e l e r a t o r
pedal is released, the vehicle will return
to the memorised speed.
Cancelling the memorised speed
If you wish to cancel the memorised
speed:
Press button 4 or the brake or
clutch pedal. The display indicates
(e.g. at 70 mph (110 km/h)):
Activation/memorising a speed
As soon as you reach the chosen speed,
press button 2 or 3 . This memorises the
speed, which will be maintained auto-
matically. The display indicates (e.g. at
70 mph (110 km/h)): On a steep descent, the cruise
control, which does not act on
the brakes, is not able to prevent
the vehicle from exceeding the
programmed speed.
In no circumstances does the cruise
control replace the requirement to
respect speed limits, nor does it replace
the need for vigilance and responsibility
on the part of the driver.
We recommend that your feet remain
near the pedals.
Cruise control function
This enables the vehicle to maintain
a steady speed programmed by the
driver.
In order for it to be memorised, the
vehicle speed must be greater than
25 mph (40 km/h) with at least fourth
gear engaged (second gear for the
automatic gearbox),
with the engine
running .

speed is less than 25 mph
(40 km/h), or if the manual gearbox
is in a gear lower than fourth (second
gear for the automatic gearbox) or if
the ESP is activated. Operating check
In the event of a cruise control malfunc-
tion, the memorised speed is erased,
t h e d a s h e s fl a s h f o r a f e w s e c o n d s :
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have
the system checked. Do not use the cruise control
on slippery roads or in heavy
t r a f fi c .
To prevent the mat from becoming
caught under the pedals:
- ensure that the mat is positioned correctly,
- n e v e r fi t o n e m a t o n t o p o f a n o t h e r .
Changing a memorised speed
To memorise a speed higher than the
previous one, there are two options:
Without using the accelerator:
press button 3 ;
Using the accelerator:
exceed the memorised speed until
the required speed is reached,
press button 2 or 3 .
To memorise a speed lower than the
previous one:
press button 2 ;
Short press: +/- 1 mph (1 km/h)
Long press: +/- 5 mph (5 km/h)
Maintained press: continuous increase
or decrease of the value in steps of
5 mph (5 km/h).
Recalling the memorised speed
After cancellation, press button
4 . Your
vehicle will return to the last memo-
rised speed. The display indicates
(e.g. at 70 mph (110 km/h)):

Place switch 1 in position 0 or LIMIT
or switch off the ignition.

Selecting the function
Place switch 1 in the LIMIT position.
The limiter is not yet active. By default
the display indicates:

CRUISE or switch off the ignition
to switch the system off. The last
speed programmed remains in the
memory.
Memorising a speed
A speed can be memorised without
activation of the limiter.
Pressing buttons 2 and 3 decreases or
increases the speed.
Short press: +/- 1 mph (1 km/h)
Long press: +/- 5 mph (5 km/h)
Maintained press: continuous increase
or decrease of the value in steps of
5 mph (5 km/h). Activation/deactivation of the
limiter
Pressing button
4 activates the limiter,
pressing this button again deactivates it.
When the limiter is active, the display
indicates (e.g. at 70 mph (110 km/h)):
On a steep descent or if the
driver accelerates sharply, the
speed limiter, which does not
act on the brakes, is not able
to prevent the vehicle from exceeding
the programmed speed.
In no circumstances does the speed
limiter replace the requirement to respect
speed limits, nor does it replace the
need for vigilance and responsibility on
the part of the driver.
The driver must remain vigilant and
stay in complete control of his vehicle.
The operations must be car-
ried out with the engine run-
ning.
Limiter function
This prevents the vehicle speed
exceeding the speed programmed by
the driver (minimum speed of 18 mph
(30 km/h)).

TYRE UNDER-INFLATION DETECTION
Sensors check the tyre pressure dur-
ing driving and trigger a warning in the
event of malfunction.
Flat tyre Instrument panel display
warning light.
This is accompanied by the audible signal
and the message on the multi-function
display locating the wheel concerned.
If this warning light comes on, have
the tyre pressure checked as soon as
possible.
Puncture
This warning light, accompanied by
the audible signal and the message on
the multi-function display locating the
wheel concerned, is followed by illumi-
nation of the "STOP" warning light. Stop immediately, avoiding any sud-
den movement of the steering wheel
and the brakes.
Change the damaged wheel (punc-
t u r e d o r v e r y d e fl a t e d t y r e ) , a n d h a v e
the tyre pressure checked as soon as
possible.
Sensor(s) not detected or faulty
Instrument panel display
warning light. All repairs and changing of
t y r e s o n a w h e e l fi t t e d w i t h t h i s
system must be carried out by
a PEUGEOT dealer.
If, when changing a tyre, you install a
wheel which is not detected by your
vehicle, you must have the system
reinitialised by a PEUGEOT dealer.
T h e t y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n s y s -
tem is an aid to driving which does not
replace the need for the driver to be
vigilant or to drive responsibly.
This system does not eliminate
the need to have the tyre pressure
checked regularly (see manufacturer's
label on the door pillar) to ensure that
the optimum dynamic performance
of the vehicle is maintained and pre-
vent premature wear of the tyres, par-
ticularly in arduous driving conditions
(heavy load, high speed).
The tyre pressures must be checked
cold, at least once a month. Remem-
ber to check the pressure of the spare
wheel.
T h e t y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n s y s -
tem may experience temporary inter-
ference due to radioelectric emissions
on a frequency close to that used by
the system.
Note : this message is also
displayed when one of the
wheels is away from the ve-
hicle (being repaired) or when
one or more wheels without a
s e n s o r a r e fi t t e d .

This is accompanied by the audible
signal and the message on the multi-
function display which indicates that
u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n i s a b s e n t
from one (or several) wheel(s) or that
there is a fault in the system.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to replace
the faulty sensor(s).

CHECKS
At the start of winter, have
your battery checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.
H a v e t h e fi l t e r e l e m e n t s
replaced regularly. If you drive
in dusty conditions, change
them twice as often.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Particle emission filter (Diesel)
It is imperative that the particle emis-
s i o n fi l t e r i s m a i n t a i n e d i n a c c o r d a n c e
with the manufacturer’s servicing
schedule, by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Note: following prolonged operation of
the vehicle at very low speed or at idle,
y o u m a y , i n e x c e p t i o n a l c i r c u m s t a n c e s ,
notice emissions of water vapour at the
e x h a u s t o n a c c e l e r a t i o n . T h i s d o e s n o t
have any effect on the performance of
the vehicle or the environment.
O n v e h i c l e s w h i c h a r e fi t t e d w i t h a
p a r t i c l e e m i s s i o n fi l t e r , t h e f a n a s -
sembly may operate after the vehicle
has stopped, even when the engine is
cold. Where the handbrake travel is
too great or there is a reduc-
tion in the performance of the
system, the handbrake should
be adjusted.
Have the system checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.

Disc wear status
For any information relating to checking
disc wear, contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
FUEL SUPPLY CUT-OFF
(PETROL) *
As a safety precaution, in certain circum-stances, a mechanism prevents fuel from reaching the engine. To re-establish the fuel supply:
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL (DIESEL)
If you should run out of fuel, it is neces-
sary to re-prime the circuit.
The repriming pump and the degas
screw are located under the bonnet
(see corresponding illustration in the
t e c h n i c a l d a t a s e c t i o n ) :
1.6 litre 16V HDI engine
- fi l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e
litres of diesel,
- squeeze and release the manual re-priming pump, until fuel appears
in the transparent pipe,
- operate the starter until the engine starts.
2 litre 16V HDI engine
- fi l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e litres of diesel,
- unscrew the degas screw,
- squeeze and release the manual repriming pump until diesel is seen
escaping via the degas screw,
- retighten the degas screw,
- operate the starter until the engine starts.
Brake pad wear depends on
the style of driving, in particu-
lar for vehicles which are used
in town, over short distances.
Brake pads It may be necessary to check
the thickness of the pads,
even between services.

To ensure the best perfor-
mance from components as
important as the power steer-
ing and the braking system, the
m a n u f a c t u r e r s e l e c t s a n d o f f e r s s p e c i fi c
products, only use products recom-
mended by PEUGEOT .
Battery
To prevent damage to the electrical units,
high pressure washing of the engine
compartment is strictly prohibited .

CHANGING A WHEEL
Tools available
The following tools are located in
the holder in the centre of the spare
wheel:
1. Wheelbrace.
Permits removal of the wheel trim and removal of the wheel securing
bolts.
2. Jack with integrated handle.
Permits raising of the vehicle.
3. Removable towing eye.
See corresponding section.
4. Bolt cover tool.
Permits removal of the bolt protectors (covers) on alloy wheels. Removal
For vehicles with steel wheels,
detach the trim using the wheel-
brace 1 pulling at the valve pas-
sage hole.
For vehicles with alloy wheels,
remove the covers using tool 4 .
Loosen the wheel bolts.
Take the jack from the tool kit.
Place the jack 2 in one of the four
locations underneath the vehicle
(the nearest one to the wheel to be
changed).
Extend the jack 2 until its base is in
contact with the ground.
Unscrew the bolts and remove the
wheel.

jack in the boot

Secure the handle behind the boot
seal. Never go underneath a vehicle
which is supported only by a
jack.
Park the vehicle on level, stable
and non-slippery ground.
Apply the handbrake, switch off the

gear (position P for the automatic
gearbox).

CHANGING A FRONT BULB
Handle the bulbs with a dry cloth.
2 - Main beam headlamps: H7-55 W.
Remove the protective cover cor-
responding to the faulty bulb.
Disconnect the connector.
Press the end of the securing clips
to free the bulb. Change the bulb.
W h e n fi t t i n g t h e n e w b u l b , e n s u r e t h a t
the direction notches are positioned
correctly and the securing clips are
fi x e d p r o p e r l y .
Reconnect the connector.
R e fi t t h e p r o t e c t i v e c o v e r .

Direction indicators:
PY 21 W (amber).
Turn the bulb holder a quarter turn
and remove it.
Change the bulb.
WARNING: RISK OF
ELECTROCUTION
Front lights
In the engine compartment, remove
the cover secured by one or two but-
t e r fl y s c r e w s , a p l a s t i c r e t a i n e r c l i p a n d
two quarter turn screws.
1 - Dipped beam headlamps:
H1-55 W or D2S-35 W xenon bulb.
Xenon bulbs must be replaced by a
PEUGEOT dealer. Amber coloured bulbs (direction
indicators and side repeaters)
must be replaced with bulbs
o f i d e n t i c a l s p e c i fi c a t i o n a n d
colour.
5 - Front fog lamps: H11 - 55 W.
Turn the wheels to full lock.
A c c e s s t o t h e b u l b i s v i a t h e fl a p i n t h e
f r o n t m u d fl a p .
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
T h e h e a d l a m p s a r e fi t t e d w i t h p o l y c a r -
bonate glass with a protective coating.
Do not clean them with a dry or abra-
sive cloth, nor with a detergent or sol-
vent product.
E n s u r e t h a t t h e l i q u i d u s e d t o fi l l t h e
wash-wipe and headlamp wash reser-
voir is of good quality.
High pressure washing :
when using a high pressure
washer on stubborn dirt, do
not persist on the headlamps,
the lights and their periphery to avoid
damaging their coating and their seal.
In certain climatic conditions (low tem-
perature, humidity), condensation on
the inside surface of the headlamp
glass and rear lights glass is normal;
it disappears a few minutes after the
lights are switched on.
3 - Side lights: W 5 W.
Remove the protective cover, dis-
connect the connector and then
remove the bulb and change it.
Put the connector back in place.
Reconnect the connector.
