front passenger seat , it is

a i r b a g i s d e a c t i v a t e d . O t h e r w i s e , the
child would risk being seriously in-
jured or killed if the airbag were to

o n y o u .
F o r m a x i m u m s a f e t y , p l e a s e
observe the following recom-
mendations:
- i n a c c o r d a n c e w i t h E u r o p e a n r e g - ulations, all children under the
age of 12 or less than one and
a half metres tall must travel in
approved child seats suited to
their weight , o n s e a t s fi t t e d w i t h a
seat belt or ISOFIX mountings * ,
- statistically, the safest seats in
your vehicle for carrying chil-
dren are the rear seats,
- a child weighing less than 9 kg
must travel in the "rearwards-
facing" position both in the front
and in the rear.
PEUGEOT recommends that chil-
dren should travel in the rear seats of
y o u r v e h i c l e :
- "rearwards-facing" u p t o t h e a g e
of 2,
- "forwards-facing" over the age
o f 2 .

SEAT BELTS
Detection of fastening of the front
seat belts
When the ignition is switched on , if a
front passenger has not fastened their
seat belt and if the vehicle speed is below
12 mph (20 km/h) , you are warned by
lighting of the seat belt warning lamp .
The warning lamp switches off when the
seat belt(s) concerned is(are) fastened.
If the vehicle speed is above 12 mph
(20 km/h) , y o u a r e w a r n e d b y fl a s h -
ing of the seat belt warning lamp ,
an audible signal and a message on
the multifunction screen identifying the
unfastened seat belt(s).
Front seat belts with
pre-tensioner and force
limiter
In the event of a serious front impact,
the pre-tensioning system instantly
t i g h t e n s t h e s e a t b e l t s fi r m l y a g a i n s t
the bodies of the occupants.
The pre-tensioning seat belts are
armed when the ignition is on.
The force limiter reduces the pressure
of the seat belt against the chest of
the occupant, so increasing his pro-
tection.
Rear seat belts
T h e r e a r s e a t s a r e a l l fi t t e d w i t h a
three-point inertia reel seat belt.
The rear side seat belts have a force
l i m i t e r a n d m a y b e fi t t e d w i t h a p r e -
tensioning inertia reel.
To fasten the seat belts
Pull the strap, then insert the
tongue into the buckle.
Check that the seat belt is secured
correctly by pulling the strap.
To unfasten the seat belts
Press the red button on the buckle. Before folding the seat back, pull the
strap and insert the seat belt tongue
into the buckle. This precaution will
ensure that each seat belt is in place
when the rear seats are lifted again.
Note: a bag or an animal
placed on the front passenger
seat may cause illumination of
the warning lamp.
The audible signal ceases and the
warning lamp switches off when the
seat belt concerned is fastened.
After two minutes without any action
o n t h e s e a t b e l t s , t h e fl a s h i n g w a r n i n g
lamp remains on permanently and the
audible signal ceases. All of the warn-
ings cease when a door is opened or
when the engine is switched off.
Front seat belt height adjustment:
To lower the attachment point,
squeeze control 1 and slide it
downwards.
To raise the attachment point, slide
control 1 upwards.

The driver must ensure that
the passengers use the seat
belts correctly and that they
are all properly restrained be-
fore setting off.
Wherever you are seated in the vehi-
cle, always fasten your seat belt, even
for short journeys.
Do not invert the seat belt buckles as
t h e y w i l l n o t f u l fi l t h e i r r o l e f u l l y .
If the seats have armrests * , the lap
part of the seat belt must always pass
under the armrest.
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n i n e r t i a
reel permitting automatic adjustment
of the length of the strap to your size.
The seat belt is stored automatically
when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that the
seat belt is reeled in correctly.
The lower part of the strap must be
positioned as low as possible on the
pelvis.
The upper part must be positioned in
the hollow of the shoulder.
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n a u -
tomatic locking device which comes
into operation in the event of a colli-
sion, on emergency braking or if the
vehicle rolls over. You can release the
device by pulling rapidly on the strap
and releasing it. Recommendations for children:
- use a suitable child seat if the pas-
senger is less than 12 years old or
s h o r t e r t h a n o n e m e t r e fi f t y ,
- do not use the strap-guide * when a child seat is installed.
- never use the same seat belt to se- cure more than one person,
- never allow a child to travel on your lap.
Depending on the nature and se-
riousness of the impacts , the pre-
tensioning device may be triggered
before and independently of the air
bags. Triggering of the pre-tensioners
is accompanied by a slight emission of
harmless smoke and a noise, due to
the activation of the pyrotechnic car-
tridge incorporated in the system.
In all cases, the airbag warning lamp
comes on.
Following an impact, have the seat
belts system checked, and if necessary
replaced, by a PEUGEOT dealer.

In order to be effective, a seat belt:
- must be tightened as close to the
body as possible,
- must restrain one adult only,
- must not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
- must be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement, checking that
it does not twist,
- m u s t n o t b e t r a n s f o r m e d o r m o d i fi e d to avoid altering its performance.
In accordance with current safety reg-
ulations, all repairs and checks must
be carried out by a PEUGEOT dealer
who guarantees that the work is car-
ried out correctly.
Have your seat belts checked regularly
by a PEUGEOT dealer and particularly
if the straps show signs of damage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water or a textile cleaning product,
sold by PEUGEOT dealers.
After folding or moving a seat or rear
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt is
positioned and rolled up correctly.

AIRBAGS
The airbags have been designed to
maximise the safety of the occupants
(with the exception of the rear centre
passenger) in the event of violent col-
lisions. They supplement the action of
the force-limiting seat belts.
In this case, the electronic detectors
record and analyse the front and side
impacts suffered in the impact detec-
tion zones:
- in the event of a serious impact, the airbags are deployed instanta-
neously and protect the occupants
of the vehicle (with the exception
of the rear centre passenger); im-
mediately after the impact, the air-
b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y s o t h a t t h e y d o
not hinder the visibility of the oc-
cupants or their possible exit from
the vehicle,
- in the event of a minor impact or rear impact and in certain roll-over
conditions, the airbags will not be
deployed; the seat belt alone is
s u f fi c i e n t t o p r o v i d e m a x i m u m p r o -
tection in these situations. Front airbags
The front airbags protect the driver
and front passenger in the event of a
serious front impact in order to limit the
risks of injury to the head and chest.
T h e y a r e fi t t e d i n t h e c e n t r e o f t h e
steering wheel for the driver and in the
dashboard for the front passenger.
Impact detection zones
A. Front impact zone.
B. Side impact zone.
The deployment of one or
more airbags is accompanied
by a slight discharge of harm-
less smoke and a noise, due
to the activation of the pyrotechnic
cartridge incorporated in the system.
This smoke is not harmful, but sensi-
tive individuals may experience some
irritation.
The noise of the detonation may result
in a slight loss of hearing for a short
time. Activation
They are deployed simultaneously, ex-
cept in cases where the passenger's
front airbag is deactivated, in the event
of a serious front impact applied to all
or part of the front impact zone
A , in
the longitudinal centreline of the vehi-
cle on a horizontal plane directed from
the front to the rear of the vehicle.
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e
front occupant of the vehicle and the
dashboard to cushion their forward
movement.
The airbags do not operate
when the ignition is off.
This equipment only operates
once. If a second impact occurs (during
the same or a subsequent accident),
the airbag will not operate.

Disarming the front
passenger's front air bag * Reactivation
As soon as the child seat is removed,
turn the air bag slot to the
"ON" position
to re-activate the air bag and thus ensure
its safety function.
To ensure the safety of your child, it
is essential to disarm the passenger
air bag when you install a rear-facing
child seat on the front passenger seat.
Otherwise, the child would risk being
seriously injured or killed if the air bag
w e r e t o i n fl a t e .
With the ignition switched off
,
insert the key into the passenger air
bag disarming switch, turn it to the
"OFF" position, then remove the key
keeping the slot in this position. The knee airbag protects the driver's
knees in the event of a serious front
impact.

In the event of a malfunction

It is deployed at the same time as the
front airbags.
Instrument panel warning lamp.
If this warning lamp comes on, ac-
companied by an audible signal and a
message on the multifunction screen,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have
the system checked. The airbags may
no longer be deployed in the event of
a serious impact. Knee airbag
When the ignition is on, this
warning light remains lit on the
instrument panel for the duration
of disarming.
In the "OFF" position, the passenger
air bag will not be triggered in the event
of an impact.

Front/rear * lateral airbags
The lateral airbags protect the driver
and passengers (with the exception
of the rear centre passenger) in the
event of a serious side impact in order
to limit the risks of injury to the chest.

Activation
The lateral airbags are deployed inde-
pendently of each other in the event
of a serious side impact applied to
all or part of the side impact zone B ,
perpendicular to the longitudinal cen-
treline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane directed from the outside to the
inside of the vehicle.

the front or rear occupant of the ve-

Curtain airbags
The curtain airbags protect the driver
and passengers (with the exception
of the rear centre passenger) in the
event of a serious side impact in order
to limit the risks of injury to the head.

door pillars and the upper part of the
passenger compartment.
In the event of a malfunction
Instrument panel warning lamp.
If this warning lamp comes on, ac-
companied by an audible signal and a
message on the multifunction screen,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have
the system checked. The airbags may
no longer be deployed in the event of
a serious impact. In the event of a minor impact
or bump to the side of the
vehicle or if the vehicle rolls
over, the airbag may not be
deployed.
In the event of a rear or front collision,
the airbag is not deployed.
