Heated Seats
If the vehicle has this
feature, the buttons to
activate the heat on each
front seat cushion are
located on the climate
control panel.
The button for the driver’s seat is located on the bottom
left side of the climate control panel. The button for
the passenger’s seat is on the bottom right of the climate
control panel.
Push the button once to activate a high heat setting.
Both indicator lights next to the button will come
on. Push the button again to select a lower temperature
setting. Only the bottom indicator light will come on.
Press the button a third time to turn the heat off.
This feature only works when the ignition is turned on.
Reclining Seatbacks
The recliner levers for the driver’s and passenger’s front
seatbacks are located on the outboard side of each
front seat cushion.
Lift the lever to release the seatback, then move the
seatback to the desired position. Release the lever
to lock the seatback in place. Pull up on the lever
without pushing on the seatback, and the seatback will
return to an upright position.

Let only qualied technicians work on your airbag
system. Improper service can mean that your airbag
system will not work properly. See your dealer for
service.
Notice:If you damage the covering for the driver’s
or the right front passenger’s airbag, or the side
impact airbag covering on the ceiling near the
side windows, the airbag may not work properly.
You may have to replace the airbag module in
the steering wheel, both the airbag module and the
instrument panel for the right front passenger’s
airbag, or side impact airbag module and ceiling
covering for the roof-mounted side impact airbag.
Do not open or break the airbag coverings.
Servicing Your Airbag-Equipped
Vehicle
Airbags affect how your vehicle should be serviced.
There are parts of the airbag system in several places
around your vehicle. You do not want the system to
inate while someone is working on your vehicle.
Your dealer and the service manual have information
about servicing your vehicle and the airbag system.

{CAUTION:
For up to 10 seconds after the ignition key is
turned off and the battery is disconnected,
an airbag can still inate during improper
service. You can be injured if you are close
to an airbag when it inates. Avoid yellow
connectors. They are probably part of the
airbag system. Be sure to follow proper
service procedures, and make sure the person
performing work for you is qualied to do so.
The airbag system does not need regular maintenance.

Keys
{CAUTION:
Leaving children in a vehicle with the ignition
key is dangerous for many reasons. They
could operate the power windows or other
controls or even make the vehicle move. The
children or others could be badly injured or
even killed. Do not leave the keys in a vehicle
with children.

The key can be used for
the ignition, as well as the
driver’s door lock and
storage compartments.
The key comes with a bar coded tag attached to the
key ring. Keep this bar coded tag and give it to
your dealer if a new key needs to be made.
The vehicle has the PASS-Key
®III vehicle theft system.
The key has a transponder in the key head that
matches a decoder in the vehicle’s instrument panel.
The key will have PK3 stamped on it. If a replacement
key or an additional key is needed, it must be
purchased from your dealer.Any new PASS-Key
®III key must be programmed
before it will start the vehicle. SeePASS-Key®III on
page 2-18for more information on programming a
new key.

Notice:If you ever lock your keys in your vehicle,
you may have to damage the vehicle to get in.
Be sure you have spare keys.
If the vehicle has the OnStar
®system with an active
subscription, and the keys are locked inside the vehicle,
OnStar
®may be able to send a command to unlock
the vehicle. SeeOnStar®System on page 2-36for more
information.

"(Unlock):Press the unlock button one time to unlock
the driver’s door. Press the unlock button again within
ve seconds to unlock the other doors. The interior lights
will come on and stay on for 20 seconds or until the
ignition is turned on. If enabled through the DIC,
the parking lamps will ash once to indicate unlocking
has occurred. Pressing the lock button on the remote
keyless entry transmitter will disarm the content-theft
deterrent system. SeeContent Theft-Deterrent on
page 2-17for more details.
V(Trunk Release):Press this button to release the
trunk lid. The transaxle must be in PARK (P) for this
feature to operate.
L(Remote Alarm):Press the remote alarm button to
activate an alarm. The ignition must be in off or
accessory for the remote alarm to work. When the
remote alarm button is pressed the headlamps will ash
and the horn will sound repeatedly for two minutes.
The alarm will turn off when the ignition is moved to run
or the remote alarm button is pressed again.The vehicle may have Remote Lock/Unlock
Conrmation. This feature provides feedback that a
command has been received by the vehicle. The
headlamps will ash and the horn may sound briey.

Matching Transmitter(s) to Your
Vehicle
Each remote keyless entry transmitter is uniquely coded
to prevent another transmitter from unlocking the
vehicle. If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement
can be purchased through your dealer. Remember
to bring any additional transmitters so they can also be
re-coded to match the new transmitter. Once your
dealer has coded the new transmitter, the lost
transmitter cannot unlock the vehicle. The vehicle can
have a maximum of four transmitters coded to it.

If the vehicle is left running it will automatically shut off
after 10 minutes unless a time extension has been
done. To manually shut off a remote start, do any of
the following:
Aim the remote keyless entry transmitter at the
vehicle and press the remote start button until
the parking lamps turn off.
Turn on the hazards warning ashers.
Turn the ignition switch on and then off.
The remote start feature provides two separate starts,
each with 10 minutes of engine running, or it provides
one start with 10 minutes of engine running which may
be extended by 10 more minutes. If you press and
release the transmitter lock button and then press and
hold the remote start button, on the keyless entry
transmitter, again before the rst 10 minutes of the
engine running time has expired, 10 minutes are added
to the remaining minutes. For example, if the lock
and then the remote start buttons are pressed again
after ve minutes of the engine run time, 10 minutes
are added and you now have 15 minutes of the
engine running. The added 10 minutes is considered
a second start. Once two remote starts or a single start
with a time extension have been provided, the vehicle
must be started normally with the ignition key to
get more remote starts.The remote start feature will not operate if the key is in
the ignition, a door is open or the hood is not closed.
The remote start feature will not operate if there is
an emission control system malfunction. Also, the engine
will turn off during a remote vehicle start if the coolant
temperature gets too high or the oil pressure gets low.
If a remote start is attempted and unsuccessful, the
Driver Information Center (DIC) will display REMOTE
START DISABLED.

Power Door Locks
To lock or unlock all doors
from inside the vehicle,
use the power door
lock switch located on
either front door.
Move the switch on the driver’s door to the right to lock
or to the left to unlock the doors. Move the switch on
the passenger’s door to the left to lock or to the right to
unlock the doors.
If the vehicle has the content theft-deterrent system, the
vehicle may be programmed to arm the system with
the power door lock switch. See “Lock Switch Arm”
underDIC Controls and Displays (Base Level DIC) on
page 3-49orDIC Controls and Displays (Uplevel
DIC with Trip Computer) on page 3-57for more
information on programming the system.
Delayed Locking
This feature delays the locking of the vehicle’s doors for
ve seconds after the last door is closed. Two chimes
will sound when the power door lock switch or the
LOCK button on the remote keyless entry transmitter is
pressed when a door is open. The chimes indicate
that the delayed locking feature is on.
The doors can be locked immediately by pressing the
power door lock switch or the LOCK button on the
transmitter a second time.
The delayed locking feature will not activate when the
ignition is in RUN or ACC.
You can program this feature on or off through the
Driver Information Center (DIC), if equipped. See
“Personal Programming Mode Screens” underDIC

Programmable Automatic
Door Locks
The vehicle’s doors are programmed from the factory to
lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P),
except in REVERSE (R), and to unlock while the shift
lever is moved into PARK (P).
If someone needs to get in or out of the vehicle after
the doors have been locked, place the shift lever
into PARK (P). You may also unlock all doors using the
power door lock switch or unlock one door using the
inside manual door lock.
To program other door locking/unlocking combinations,
see “Personal Programming Mode Screens” under
DIC Controls and Displays (Base Level DIC) on
page 3-49orDIC Controls and Displays (Uplevel DIC
with Trip Computer) on page 3-57.
Lockout Protection
The lockout protection feature makes it more difficult
to lock the key in the vehicle. If the driver’s door is
open while the key is in the ignition, the door cannot be
locked with the power door lock switch.
This feature cannot guarantee that you will never be
locked out of the vehicle. If the key is not left in
the ignition, or, if the manual door lock pin is used, the
key could still be locked inside the vehicle. Always
remember to take the key with you.

Trunk
{CAUTION:
It can be dangerous to drive with the trunk lid
open because carbon monoxide (CO) gas can
come into your vehicle. You cannot see or
smell CO. It can cause unconsciousness and
even death. If you must drive with the trunk lid
open or if electrical wiring or other cable
connections must pass through the seal
between the body and the trunk lid:
Make sure all other windows are shut.
Turn the fan on your heating or cooling
system to its highest speed and select the
control setting that will force outside air
into your vehicle. See Climate Control
System in the Index.
If you have air outlets on or under the
instrument panel, open them all the way.

Trunk Lock
To unlock the trunk from the outside, insert the key
into the lock on the trunk and turn it clockwise. If
the battery is dead or extremely low, the trunk can not
be opened with the remote keyless entry transmitter
or remote trunk release.
The open trunk symbol on the transmitter can also be
used. SeeRemote Keyless Entry System Operation
on page 2-5for more information.
The ignition must be off, or the transaxle must be in
PARK (P), in order for the trunk to open.
