Avoidfrequentcoldstartswithshort-distancedrivingwheneverpossible.
Avoidfullthrottlestartsandabruptstops.
Donotexceedmaximumenginespeedof4200rpm(revolutionsperminute).
DonotrunacoldengineathighrpmeitherinNeutraloringear.
Donotlettheenginelabor,especiallywhendrivinguphill.Shifttothenextlowergearintime(usethemostfavorablerpmrange).
Neverlugtheengineinhighgearatlowspeeds.Thisruleappliesatalltimes,notjustduringthebreak-inperiod.
Donotparticipateinmotorracingevents,sportsdrivingschools,etc.duringthefirst2000miles/3000kilometers.
Theremaybeaslightstiffnessinthesteering,gear-shiftingorothercontrolsduringthebreak-inperiodwhichwillgraduallydisappear.
Breakinbrakepadsandbrakediscs
Newbrakepadsanddiscshavetobe“brokenin”,andthereforeonlyattainoptimalfrictionwhenthecarhascoveredseveralhundredmilesorkm.Theslightlyreducedbrakingabilitymustbecompensatedforbypressingthebrakepedalharder.Thisalsoapplieswheneverthebrakepadsandbrakediscsarereplaced.
Newtires
Newtiresdonothavemaximumtraction.Theytendtobeslippery.
Breakinnewtiresbydrivingatmoderatespeedsduringthefirst60to120miles/100to200km.Longerbrakingdistancesmustbeanticipated.
Engineoilandfuelconsumption
Duringthebreak-inperiodoilandfuelconsumptionmaybehigherthannormal.

Asportiercarset-upisobtainedwhenSportmodeisswitchedon.InterventionsbythePorschecontrolsystemsareintentionallyshiftedtowardsgreateragilityanddrivingperformance.
–PASM(PorscheActiveSuspensionManagement)isautomaticallychangedtoSportmode,resultinginastiffersuspensionsetup.
–TheTiptronicSswitchestoasportygear-changingmapandshortensthegearshiftingperiods.Gearchangestakeplacefaster.
–PSM(PorscheStabilityManagement)controlissporty.PSMinterventionstakeplacelaterthaninNormalmode.Thedrivercanmaneuverthevehiclewithgreateragilityatitsperformancelimits,withouthavingtodispensewiththeassistanceofPSMinemergencysituations.Thishelpstoachieveoptimallaptimes,particularlyonracecircuitswithadryroadsurface.
–Theelectronicacceleratorpedalreactssooner,andtheengineismoreresponsivetothrottleinputs.WhenSportmodeisswitchedon,thisfunctionisactivatedonlyafterthedriverhasbrieflyreleasedtheacceleratorpedal.
–Therpmlimitercharacteristicis“harder”,i.e.theengineisimmediatelythrottledwhenthe
performancelimitsarereached(onlyinmanualselectionmodeforvehicleswithTiptronicS).

SwitchingSportmodeonandoff
PressSPORTbuttoninthecenterconsole.WhenSportmodeisswitchedon,thelight-emittingdiodeintheSPORTbuttonislit.
WhenSportmodeisswitchedon,thelogoSPORTappearsnexttothedigitalspeedometer.
SwitchingSportmodeonandoffsimultaneouslyactivatesanddeactivatestheSportmodeofthePASM.IftheSportmodeofthePASMwasactivatedwiththePASMbutton,itwillremainon.
Aftertheignitionisswitchedoff,SportmodeisautomaticallyresettoNormalmode.

Iftheenginefailstostartafter10secondsor15secondsofcranking:
Waitabout10secondsbeforeengagingthestarteragain.
Whenstartingtheengine,bereadytodriveimmediately.Drivevehicleatmoderatespeedsandavoidenginespeedsabove4,200rpmduringthefirst5minutes.
Donotlettheengineidletowarmup.
