Yourengineisdesignedtoprovideoptimumperformanceandfueleconomyusingunleadedpremiumfuelwithanoctaneratingof98RON(93CLCorAKI).Porschethereforerecommendstheuseofthesefuelsinyourvehicle.
Porschealsorecognizesthatthesefuelsmaynotalwaysbeavailable.Beassuredthatyourvehiclewilloperateproperlyonunleadedpremiumfuelswithoctanenumbersofatleast95RON(90CLCorAKI),sincetheengine’s”ElectronicOctaneTMknockcontrol“willadapttheignitiontiming,ifnecessary.
Fuelscontainingalcoholandether
SomeareasoftheU.S.requireoxygenatedfuelsduringcertainportionsoftheyear.Oxygenatedfuelsarefuelswhichcontainalcohols(suchasmethanoloretha-nol)orether(suchasMTBE).
Undernormalconditions,theamountofthesecompoundsinthefuelwillnotaffectdriveability.
YoumayuseoxygenatedfuelsinyourPorsche,providedtheoctanerequirementsforyourvehiclearemet.Werecommend,however,thatyouchangetoadiffer-entfuelorstationifanyofthefollowingproblemsoccurwithyourvehicle:
–Deteriorationofdriveabilityandperformance.
–Substantiallyreducedfueleconomy.
–Vaporlockandnon-startproblems,especiallyathighaltitudeorathightemperature.
–Enginemalfunctionorstalling.
FuelscontainingMMT
SomeNorthAmericanfuelscontainanoctaneenhancingadditivecalledmethylcyclopentadienylmanganesetricarbonyl(MMT).Ifsuchfuelsareused,youremis-sioncontrolsystemperformancemaybenegativelyaffected.Thecheckenginewarninglightsonyourinstrumentpanelmayturnon.Ifthisoccurs,PorscherecommendsyoustopusingfuelscontainingMMT.

ThefollowingtipswillbehelpfulinobtainingoptimumperformancefromyournewPorsche.
Despitethemostmodern,high-precisionmanufac-turingmethods,themovingpartsmuststillwearinwitheachother.Thiswearing-inoccursmainlyinthefirst2000miles/3000km.
Therefore:
Preferablytakelongertrips.
Avoidfrequentcoldstartswithshort-distancedrivingwheneverpossible.
Avoidfullthrottlestartsandabruptstops.
Donotexceedmaximumenginespeedof4200rpm(revolutionsperminute).
DonotrunacoldengineathighrpmeitherinNeutraloringear.
Donotlettheenginelabor,especiallywhendrivinguphill.Shifttothenextlowergearintime(usethemostfavorablerpmrange).
Neverlugtheengineinhighgearatlowspeeds.Thisruleappliesatalltimes,notjustduringthebreak-inperiod.
Donotparticipateinmotorracingevents,sportsdrivingschools,etc.duringthefirst2000miles/3000kilometers.
Theremaybeaslightstiffnessinthesteering,gear-shiftingorothercontrolsduringthebreak-inperiodwhichwillgraduallydisappear.
Breakinbrakepadsandbrakediscs
Newbrakepadsanddiscshavetobe“brokenin”,andthereforeonlyattainoptimalfrictionwhenthecarhascoveredseveralhundredmilesorkm.Theslightlyreducedbrakingabilitymustbecompensatedforbypressingthebrakepedalharder.Thisalsoapplieswheneverthebrakepadsandbrakediscsarereplaced.
Newtires
Newtiresdonothavemaximumtraction.Theytendtobeslippery.
Breakinnewtiresbydrivingatmoderatespeedsduringthefirst60to120miles/100to200km.Longerbrakingdistancesmustbeanticipated.
Engineoilandfuelconsumption
Duringthebreak-inperiodoilandfuelconsumptionmaybehigherthannormal.

interrogatedandgoesoutwhentheengineisstartedifthecheckisnotyetcomplete.IftheABSwarninglampfailstogoout,thisindicatesthatABShasbeendeactivatedduetoafault.Ifthewarninglightsintheinstrumentpanelandon-boardcomputerlightupwhileyouaredriving,thisindicatesthatafaulthasoccurred.Inbothcases,normalbraking,asinvehicleswithoutABS,isstillretained.
TheABSsystemshould,however,beexaminedatanauthorizedPorschedealerimmediatelytopreventtheoccurrenceoffurtherfaults.
IftheABSsystembecomesinoperative,takeyourvehicletoyourauthorizedPorschedealerimmediately.
