Donotoperatethecarwiththedriverorpassengerbackrestsexcessivelyreclined(see“Seatposition”).

Inthecabriolet,thewindstopmaybedam-agedduringseatadjustmentandwhenfoldingbackthefront-seatbackrest.
Adjustseatsothattheseatbackrestdoesnottouchthewindstop.
Seatposition
Anergonomicallycorrectsittingpositionisimportantforsafeandfatigue-freedriving.Werecommendthefollowingprocedureforadjustingthedriver’sseattosuitindividualrequirements:
1.Vehicleswithmanualtransmission:Adjusttheseatuntil,withtheclutchpedalfullydepressed,yourlegremainsataslightangle.VehicleswithTiptronicS:Adjusttheseatuntil,withyourleftfootonthefootrest,yourleftlegremainsataslightangle.
2.Restyouroutstretchedarmonthesteeringwheel.Setthebackrestangleandthesteer-ing-wheelpositionsothatyourwristrestsontheouterrimofthesteeringwheel.Atthesametime,theshouldersmuststillbeinnoticeablecontactwiththebackrest.
3.Adjusttheseatheighttogiveyourselfenoughheadroomandagoodoverviewofthevehicle.
4.Electricallyadjustableseat:Adjusttheseatangleuntilyourthighsrestlightlyontheseatcushion.

Four-WheelDrive
Enginepower
Withthefour-wheeldrive,theenginepowerisvariablydistributedtothefrontandrearwheels.Powerdistributionandwheelspeedcompensationbetweenthefrontandrearaxlesisrealisedwithaviscousmultiple-discclutch.
Distributionoftheenginepowerisdependentuponthewheelspeeddifferencebetweenthetwoaxles.Theviscousmultiple-discclutchalwaysdeliverssufficientdrivepowertothefrontwheels(approx.5%to40%)toensureoptimumtractionevenonapoorroadsurface.
IncombinationwiththePorscheStabilityManagement(PSM),four-wheeldriveimproveshandlingandincreasesdrivingstability.

Theincreasedcontrolthatisprovidedshouldnotinduceyoutotakegreaterriskswithyoursafety.Thelimitsdictatedbythelawsofphysicscannotbeovercome,evenwithfour-wheeldrive.Theriskofaccidentsduetoinappropriatespeedcannotbereduced,evenbyfour-wheeldrive.Thedriverbearstheresponsibilityforalldrivingmaneuvers.
Adaptyourdrivingstyletotheprevailingroadandweatherconditions.
Obeyalltrafficlaws.Dynamometertestingprocedure
SomeU.S.statesandCanadianprovincesconductemissionsinspection/maintenancetestinginvolvingtheuseoftwo-wheeldynamometer.Atwo-wheeleddynamometerisatreadmilltypedeviceuponwhichasingleaxleofthecar,thedrivingaxleofthevehicle,rotatestosimulatevehicleoperationontheroadwhilethevehicleremainsstationary.
Thefull-timefour-wheeldrivesystemofyourvehiclecannotbedisabled.Severedamagetothepowertraincanresultiftestedonatwo-wheeldynamometer.

Assoonastheenginestarts,releasetheignitionkey.
Thefirstoperationofthestarterisendedautomat-icallywhentheenginestarts.Iftheenginedoesnotstart,subsequentstarteroperationswillnotbeendedautomatically.
Iftheenginefailstostartafter10secondsor15secondsofcranking:
Waitabout10secondsbeforeengagingthestarteragain.
Whenstartingtheengine,bereadytodriveimmediately.Drivevehicleatmoderatespeedsandavoidenginespeedsabove4,200rpmduringthefirst5minutes.
Donotlettheengineidletowarmup.

Engineexhaustfumeshavemanycompo-nentswhichyoucansmell.Theyalsocontaincarbonmonoxide(CO),whichisacolorlessandodorlessgas.Carbonmonoxidecancauseunconsciousnessandevendeathifinhaled.
Neverstartorlettheengineruninanenclosed,unventilatedarea.Itisnotrec-ommendedtositinyourcarforprolongedperiodswiththeengineonandthecarnotmoving.
