Modeofoperation
SelectpositionDfor“normal”driving.Thegearsareshiftedautomaticallyaccordingtotheacceleratorpositionandspeed.
Dependingonthewaythevehicleisdrivenandontheresistance(e.g.uphill),thegear-changingpointsareshiftedtowardshigherorlowerengine-speedranges.Theacceleratorposition,drivingspeed,enginespeed,longitudinalandlateralaccelerationandtheroadprofileallhaveaninfluenceonthegear-changingcharacteristic.
Unwantedupwardshifts,e.g.beforebends,arepreventedbyswiftlyreleasingtheacceleratorpedal.
Dependingonlateralacceleration,upwardshiftsonbendsarenotmadeuntiltheengine-speedlimitisreached.
Underbraking,anddependingontheamountofdeceleration,theTiptronicshiftsdownearlier.Forsubsequentcornering,therightgearisengagedwhenpressureisappliedtothebrakesbeforethebend.Thebendistakenintherightgear,andwhenyouaccelerateoutofthebendyoudonothavetoshiftdown.
Sportmodeswitchedon

IftheSportmodeprogrammeisswitchedon,Tiptronicswitchestoasportygear-changingmapandshortenstheshiftingperiods.
InitialDrive-off
In2ndgear,thevehicledrivesoffwiththethrottleonlyslightlyopen.Driveoffin1stgearwiththethrottleopenwiderorwhentheengineiscold.
Shiftinggearonthesteeringwheel
Withthetoggleswitchesonthesteeringwheel,youcanchangetemporarilyfromautomaticselectionmodeDtomanualmodeM.
Advantages:
–Shiftingdownbeforebendsandonenteringbuilt-upareas.
–Shiftingdownondownwardslopes(enginebraking).
–Shiftingdownforbriefspurtsofacceleration.
–Selecting1stgearformovingoff.
Themanualselectionmoderemainsengaged:
–forcornering(dependingonthelateralacceleration)andoverrunning,
–whenthevehicleisstationary(e.g.atajunction).
Thesystemleavesmanualselectionmode:

Cancellingupshiftsuppression
Therestrictioncanbecancelledforonegearchangebydepressingtheacceleratortokickdown.If,forexample,theenginespeedlimitisreachedduringovertakingandtheautomaticupshiftdoesnotoccur,thetransmissioninthiscaseshiftsupbyacceleratingtokickdown.
Depresstheacceleratorpedalbeyondthefull-throttlepoint(kickdown).
Manualmodefailure
Ifmanualmodefails,thecontrolelectronicsswitchtoautomaticmode.Inthisevent,theinstrumentclusterwilldisplayselectorleverpositionD.
Havethefaultremedied.Consultanauthor-izedPorschedealer.
Stopping
Forabriefstop,e.g.atatrafficlight,leavetheselectorleverindrivepositionandholdthevehiclewiththebrakepedal.
Foralongerstopwiththeenginerunning,selectpositionN(neutral).
Donotholdthecaronaslopeusingtheaccelerator.Usethebrakepedalorthehandbrakeinstead.
Beforeleavingthevehicle,alwaysapplythehandbrakeandmovetheselectorlevertopositionP.
Parking
Goeasyontheaccelerator.
Whenparkingormaneuveringinasmallspace,controlthespeedbycarefuluseofthefootbrake.
Drivinginwinter
Inwinteryroadconditionsitisadvisabletotakesteepinclinesinmanualmode.Thispreventstheoccurrenceofgearchangesthatcouldcausewheelspin.
Tow-starting,towing

4.LeverjointrodD(blackfastening)offtheballheadwithbladeofleverB.Astheconnectionisunderspringtension,acorrespondingamountofforceisrequiredtoleverofftheballhead,creatingdangerofcrushingandpinching.
5.WhenleveringoffjointrodDontheothersideofthevehicle,theconvertible-topcompartmentcovermustbeheldsothatitdoesnotfalldowninanuncontrolledmannertoprotectagainstinjuryfromafallencover.
6.Graspconvertible-topcompartmentcoverinthecenterandsetupcompletely(arrow).
7.LeverjointrodE(whitefastening)offtheballheadwithbladeofleverB.Acorrespondingamountofforceisrequiredtoleverofftheballhead,creatingdangerofcrushingandpinching.
8.WhenleveringoffjointrodEontheothersideofthevehicle,theconvertibletopmustbeheldsothatitdoesnotfalldowninanuncontrolledmannertoprotectagainstinjuryfromafallencover.

Fittingthehardtop
1.Opendoorsandconvertibletop.
2.Carefullyremovebothplasticcovers(arrow)outofthepivotlocks,usingascrewdriver.Storeplasticcovers.

Theseplasticcoversareincludedwithvehiclesthatarefactory-equippedwithahardtop.

ExerciseExtremeCautionwhen

Theenginecompartmentofanymotorvehicleisapotentiallyhazardousarea.Ifyouarenotfullyfamiliarwithproperrepairprocedures,donotattempttheadjustmentsdescribedonthefollowingpages.Thiscautionappliestotheentirevehicle.
Onlyworkonyourvehicleoutdoorsorinawellventilatedarea.
Ensurethattherearenoopenflamesintheareaofyourvehicleatanytimewhenfuelfumesmightbepresent.Beespeciallycautiousofsuchdevicessuchashotwaterheaterswhichigniteaflameintermittently.
Beforeworkingonanypartintheenginecom-partment,turntheengineoffandletitcooldownsufficiently.Hotenginecompartmentcomponentscanburnskinoncontact.
Bealertandcautiousaroundengineatalltimeswhiletheengineisrunning.Ifworkhastobeperformedwiththeenginerunning,alwayssettheparkingbrake,andmakesuretheshiftleverisinneutralortheselectorleverisinpositionPorN.
Inparticular,beverycarefultoensurethatitemsofclothing(ties,shirt,sleevesetc.),jewelry,longhair,handorfingerscannotgetcaughtintheengine-compartmentblower,fan,beltsorothermovingparts.Theradiatorandradiatorfansareinthefrontofthecar.Thefanscanstartorcontinuerunningasafunctionoftemperature,evenwiththeengineswitchedoff.Carryoutworkintheseareasonlywiththeengineoffandexerciseextremecaution.
YourPorscheisequippedwithanelectronicignitionsystem.Whentheignitionison,highvoltageispresentinallwiresconnectedwiththeignitionsystem;therefore,exerciseextremecautionwhenworkingonanypartoftheenginewhiletheignitionisonortheengineisrunning.
Alwaysplacethevehicleonstablesupportsifworkhastobecarriedoutunderthevehicle.Jacksarenotsuitableforthiskindofwork.
Whenworkingunderthecarwithoutsafetystandsbutwiththewheelsontheground,makesurethecarisonlevelground,thewheelsareblocked,andthattheenginecannotbestarted.Removetheignitionkey.
Donotsmokeorallowanopenflamearoundthebatteryorfuel.Keepafireextinguisherinclosereach.
Incompleteorimproperservicingmaycauseproblemsintheoperationofthecar.Ifindoubtaboutanyservicing,haveitdonebyyourauthorizedPorschedealer.ImpropermaintenanceduringthewarrantyperiodmayaffectyourPorschewarrantycoverage.
Suppliesoffluids,e.g.engineoil,brakefluidorcoolant,arehazardoustoyourhealth.Keepthesefluidsoutofchildren’sreachanddisposeoftheminaccordancewiththeappropriateregulations.
