Slowbatterycharching
1.Payattentiontoallwarningsandfollowinstructionsthatcomewithyourbatterycharger.
2.Whencharging,ensureadequateventilation.

7.Switchoncharger.Normallyabatteryshouldbechargedatnomorethan10percentofitsratedcapacity.Ratedcapacityofthebatteryinyourvehicleislistedonthebatteryhousing.
8.Aftercharging,turnoffchargeranddisconnectchargercables.
9.Tightentheventcapsandreinstallbattery.

Winteroperation
Thecapacityandabilityofthebatterytostorepowerdecreasesatlowoutsidetemperatures.Additionally,morepowerisconsumedwhilestarting,andtheheadlights,heater,rearwindowdefogger,etc.,areusedmorefrequently.
LetyourPorschedealertestthebattery’scapacitybeforewintersetsin.
Thebatterywilldischargemorequicklyifyourvehicleisnotdrivenonadailybasisoveradistanceofseveralmiles.Themoreoftenyoudriveyourvehicle,andthelongerthedistancedriveneachtrip,themoreopportunitythevehicle’schargingsystemwillhavetorechargethebattery.
Replacingthebattery
Theservicelifeofthebatteryissubjecttonormalwear;itdependsgreatlyoncare,climaticcondi-tionsanddrivingconditions(distances,loads).
OnlyuseanoriginalPorschebatterywiththecorrectpartnumber,asareplacement.
Pleaseobservethedisposalinstructionsforbatteries.
Puttingvehicleintooperation
Afterthebatteryisconnectedorafteranexhaus-tivelydischargedbatteryischarged,themul-tifunctionalPSMlightlightsupontheinstrumentpanelandamessageappearsontheon-boardcomputertoindicateafault.
Thisfaultcanberemediedwithafewsimplesteps:
1.Starttheengine.
2.Withthevehiclestationary,performafewsteeringmovementstotheleftandrightandthendriveashortdistanceinastraightlineuntilthemultifunctinalPSMlightgoesoutandthemessageontheon-boardcomputerdisappears.
3.Ifthewarningsdonotdisappear,then:Drivecarefullytothenearestqualifiedspecialistworkshop.Havethefaultremedied.
4.Afterthewarningsdisappear,stopthevehicleinasuitableplace.
5.Performadaptationofthepowerwindows:
Pleaseobservethechapter”STORINGENDPOSITIONOFTHEWINDOWS”onpage35.
Ignitionkey/ignitionlock
Donotinserttheignitionkeyintotheignitionlockifthevehiclebatteryisdischarged.Theignitionkeycannolongerberemoved.
Thekeycannotberemoveduntilthevehicleelectricalsystemissuppliedwithpoweragain.

Connectjumpercablesinthefollowing
sequence:
Alwaysobservethesequencebelow:
1.Connectthepositivelead(red)tothepositiveterminalofthedischargedbatteryfirst,thenconnectittothepositiveterminalofthedonorbattery.
2.Firstconnectthenegativecable(black)tothenegativeterminalofthedonorbattery,thenconnectittoasuitablegroundingpointonthevehiclewiththedischargedbattery.Thisgroundingpointmustlieasfaraspossiblefromthebattery.Forexample,asolidmetalpartortheengineblockaresuitablegroundingpoints.Ifnosuitablegroundingpointsaretobefoundoneithervehicle,thenegativecablemustcarefullybeconnecteddirectlytothenegativeterminalofthebattery.Ifasuitablegroundingpointistobefoundonlyonthedonorvehicle,thenegativecablemustfirstbeconnectedtotheterminalofthedischargedbattery,thentothegroundingpointofthedonorvehicle.
3.Runtheengineofthedonorcaratahigherspeed.
4.Starttheengine.Anattemptedstartusingjumpercablesshouldnotlastmorethan15seconds.Thenallowawaitingperiodofatleastoneminute.
Note
Beforedisconnectingthejumpercables,electricalloadssuchastheheatedrearwindowandtheheatingfanblowershouldbeswitchedon(thevehicle’slightsmustnotbeswitchedon).Thisreducesvoltagepeakswhichmayoccurwhendisconnectingthejumpercables.
5.Withtheenginerunning,removebothjumpleadsinreverseorder.

Replacingbulbs

Onlyusethebulbsspecifiedinthebulbchart.
Newbulbsmustbecleanandfreefromoil,greaseandfingerprints.Therefore,nevertouchbulbswithyourbarehands.Useaclothorsoftpaperwhilereplacingbulbs.

1.UnscrewplasticnutA.Detachsidecarpeting.
2.Removerubberplugsfromtheunlockingopening.
3.Placesocketwrench(toolkit)ontheunlockingspindle.Thetongueofthewrenchshouldpointhorizontallytotherear.
4.Turnsocketwrenchapprox.180°A.Theheadlightisunlockedandpushedforwardslightlyduringthisprocess.
5.TurnsocketwrenchbackuntilitispointingverticallydownwardBandleaveinposition.
6.Theheadlightisnowunlockedandcanbepulledforwardoutofthefender.

Installing
1.Insertheadlightintotheguiderailsandpushitfullyintothefender.
2.PushheadlighttotherearandatthesametimeturnthesocketwrenchuntilitpointshorizontallytotherearC.Theheadlightlockingdevicemustperceptiblyandaudiblyengage.
3.Inserttherubberplugintotheunlockingopeningandsecurethecarpet.Checkthefunctionofalllights.

Theadjustmentismadewiththevehiclereadytodriveandthefueltankcompletelyfilled.
Thedriver’sseatmustbeloadedbyapersonora165lbs.(75kg)weightandthetirepressuresmustmeettheprescribedvalues.Afterbeingloaded,
thecarmustberolledafewmeterssothatthesuspensioncansettle.
Forcheckingtheheadlightadjustment,theverticalpositionofthecutoffofthelowbeam(seefig.)hastobeprojectedonaverticalscreen(wall)indistanceof24.6ft.(7.5m)fromthefrontlensoftheheadlamp.Thecorrectpositionofthecutoffis2.0in.(5cm)at24.6ft.or7.5m(0.4°)belowahorizontalline,xin.fromgroundtothecenteroftheheadlamplens.

Lateraladjustmentoftheheadlightsshouldbecarriedoutataspecialistworkshopwithanopticaladjustmentunit.
Distance
Visualaimshallbeperformedatnotlessthan24.6ft.(7.5m)(thisvalueisaroundeddownconversionfromthe25-footdistancetypicaloffieldaimusingascreen).The24.6ft.(7.5m)distanceismeasuredfromtheheadlamplenstotheviewingscreen.
Floor
Thesurfaceuponwhichthevehiclerestsisflatandapproximatelylevel.
Screen
Thescreenuponwhichheadlampbeamsareprojectedisperpendiculartothefloorandthevehicle’slongitudinalaxis,flat,uniformlylightincolor,unobstructed,andwideandhighenoughtoaccommodatethevehiclebeampatternstobeaimed.
Thescreenshouldbewideenoughtoprovideatleast3.3ft.(1m)ofspaceoutboardofthevehicle’sheadlampspacing.
Adjustmentscrews
Detachsidecarpetinginluggagecompart-ment.ThereforeunscrewplasticnutA.Openthecoveroftheappropriateadjustmentscrew.Thesettingisadjustedbyturningthehexagonsocketscrewsrightorleft,asappropriate.
