Safetybeltsonlyofferprotectionwhenthebackrestisuprightandthebeltsareproperlypositionedonthebody.Improperlypositionedsafetybeltsorsafetybeltswornbypassengersinanexcessivelyreclinedpositioncancauseseriouspersonalinjuryordeathinanaccident.
Donotoperatethecarwiththedriverorpassengerbackrestsexcessivelyreclined(see“Seatposition”).
Seatposition
Anergonomicallycorrectsittingpositionisimportantforsafeandfatigue-freedriving.Werecommendthefollowingprocedureforadjustingthedriver’sseattosuitindividualrequirements:
1.Vehicleswithmanualtransmission:Adjusttheseatuntil,withtheclutchpedalfullydepressed,yourlegremainsataslightangle.VehicleswithTiptronicS:Adjusttheseatuntil,withyourleftfootonthefootrest,yourleftlegremainsataslightangle.
2.Restyouroutstretchedarmonthesteeringwheel.Setthebackrestangleandthesteer-ing-wheelpositionsothatyourwristrestsontheouterrimofthesteeringwheel.Atthesametime,theshouldersmuststillbeinnoticeablecontactwiththebackrest.
3.Adjusttheseatheighttogiveyourselfenoughheadroomandagoodoverviewofthevehicle.
4.Electricallyadjustableseat:Adjusttheseatangleuntilyourthighsrestlightlyontheseatcushion.

Alwayscheckthemovementoftheclutchpedalbeforedrivingandmakesurethatitisnotobstructedbyafloormatoranyotherobject.
Securethefloormattopreventitfromslidingintopositionsthatcouldinterferewiththesafeoperationofyourvehicle.YourPorschedealerwillbegladtoofferyounonskidfloormatsofthecorrectsize.

Toavoiddamagetotheclutchandtransmis-sion:
Alwaysdepresstheclutchpedalfullywhenchanginggears.
Donotholdthecaronasteepgradewiththeclutchpedalpartiallydepressed.
Shouldthefreetraveloftheclutchpedalsuddenlybecomelarger,itcouldmeanamalfunctionoftheclutch.

Startingtheengine
Turnignitionkeytoignitionlockposition2.
Assoonastheenginestarts,releasetheignitionkey.
Thefirstoperationofthestarterisendedautomat-icallywhentheenginestarts.Iftheenginedoesnotstart,subsequentstarteroperationswillnotbeendedautomatically.
Iftheenginefailstostartafter10or15secondsofcranking:
Waitabout10secondsbeforeengagingthestarteragain.
Whenstartingtheengine,bereadytodriveimmediately.Drivevehicleatmoderatespeedsandavoidenginespeedsabove4200rpmduringthefirst5minutes.
Donotlettheengineidletowarmup.
Danger!
Engineexhaustfumeshavemanycompo-nentswhichyoucansmell.Theyalsocontaincarbonmonoxide(CO),whichisacolorlessandodorlessgas.Carbonmonoxidecancauseunconsciousnessandevendeathifinhaled.
Neverstartorlettheengineruninanenclosed,unventilatedarea.Itisnotrec-ommendedtositinyourcarforprolongedperiodswiththeengineonandthecarnotmoving.

Anunattendedvehiclewitharunningengineispotentiallyhazardous.Ifwarninglightsshouldcomeontoindicateimproperopera-tion,theywouldgounnoticed.
Neverleavetheengineidlingunattended.
