METHODS OF RESTRAINT IN ADDITION TO THE FRONT SEAT BELTS (1/4)
Depending on the vehicle, they are
composed of:
– seat belt inertia reel pretension-ers;
– central seat belt pretensioners;
– chest-level load limiter;
– air bags for driver and front pas- senger.
These systems are designed to act in-
dependently or together when the vehi-
cle is subjected to a frontal impact.
Depending on the severity of the
impact, the system can trigger:
– seat belt locking;
– the seat belt inertia reel pretensioner (which engages to correct seat belt
slack);
– the lap belt pretensioners to hold the occupant in his seat;
– the front airbag.
Pretensioners
The pretensioners hold the seat belt
against the body, holding the occupant
more securely against the seat, thus in-
creasing the seat belt’s efficiency.
In the event of a severe frontal impact
and if the ignition is switched on, the
system may engage the following de-
pending on the force of the impact:
– the seat belt inertia reel preten- sioner 1 which instantly retracts the
seat belt;
– the lap pretensioner 2 on the front
seats.
– Have the entire restraint
system checked following
an accident.
– No operation whatso-
ever is permitted on any part of
the system (pretensioners, air
bags, computers, wiring) and the
system components must not
be reused on any other vehicle,
even if identical.
– To avoid incorrect triggering of the system which may cause
injury, only qualified personnel
from an approved Dealer may
work on the pretensioner and air
bag system.
– The electric trigger system may only be tested by a specially
trained technician using special
equipment.
– When the vehicle is scrapped, contact an approved Dealer for
disposal of the pretensioner and
air bag gas generators.

Force limiter
Above a certain severity of impact, this
mechanism is used to limit the force of
the belt against the body so that it is at
an acceptable level.
– Have the entire restraint
system checked following
an accident.
– No operation whatsoever
is permitted on any part of the
system (air bags, electronic con-
trol units, wiring) and the system
components must not be reused
on any other vehicle, even if iden-
tical.
– Only qualified personnel from our Network may work on the air
bags; otherwise the system may
trigger accidentally and cause
injury.

ADDITIONAL METHODS OF RESTRAINT
The airbag is designed to complement the action of the seat belt. Both t\
he air bags and seat belts are integral parts of
the same protection system. It is therefore essential to wear seat belts\
at all times. If seat belts are not worn, the oc-
cupants are exposed to the risk of serious injury in the event of an acc\
ident. It may also increase the risk of minor su-
perficial injuries occurring when the airbag is deployed, although such \
minor injuries are always possible with air bags.
If the vehicle should overturn or in the event of a rear impact, however\
severe, the pretensioners and airbags are not always
triggered. Impacts to the underside of the vehicle, e.g. from pavements,\
potholes or stones, can all trigger these systems.
– No work or modification whatsoever may be carried out on any part of the airbag system (airbags, pretensi\
oners, computer,
wiring harness, etc.), except by qualified Network personnel.
– To ensure that the system is in good working order and to avoid accidenta\
l triggering of the system which may cause injury, only qualified Network personnel may work on the airbag system.
– As a safety precaution, have the airbag system checked if your vehicle h\
as been involved in an accident, or is stolen or broken into.
– When selling or lending the vehicle, inform the user of these points and\
hand over this handbook with the vehicle.
– When scrapping your vehicle, contact your approved Dealer for disposal o\
f the gas generator(s).
All of the warnings below are given so that the airbag is not obstructed in any way when it is inflated and also to prevent
the risk of serious injuries caused by items which may be dislodged when\
it inflates.

Persistent smell of
fuel
If you notice a persistent
smell of fuel you should:
– stop the vehicle as soon as traf- fic conditions allow and switch off
the ignition;
– switch on the hazard warning lights and ask your passengers
to leave the vehicle and to keep
away from traffic;
– contact an approved Dealer.
Running out of fuel on diesel
versions
With the card RENAULT in the pas-
senger compartment, press the start
button 3 without pressing any of the
pedals. Wait a few minutes before start-
ing. This will enable the fuel circuit to
be primed. If the engine does not start,
repeat the procedure.
If the engine does not start after several
attempts, please contact an authorised
dealer.
No modifications what-
soever are permitted on
any part of the fuel supply
system (electronic units,
wiring, fuel circuit, injectors, pro-
tective covers, etc.) as this may be
dangerous (unless undertaken by
qualified Network personnel).

DRIVER CORRECTION DEVICES AND AIDS (10/12)
Driver assistance with a
trailer
This system helps to maintain control
over the vehicle while using a trailer.
It detects shaking caused by towing a
trailer under certain driving conditions.
Operating conditions
– The function should be activated by an authorised dealer;
– the towbar must be approved by an authorised dealer;
– the wiring must be approved by an authorised dealer;
– the towbar must be connected to the vehicle.
If the towbar wiring is plug-
ged in but no trailer is atta-
ched (bicycle carrier, lug-
gage carrier with lighting,
etc.), the function may act under
certain rutted road conditions.
Risk of vehicle deceleration.
Operating principle
The function stabilises the vehicle by:
– asymmetric braking of the front wheels to reduce shaking caused by
the trailer;
– braking of all four wheels and limita- tion on engine torque to reduce the
vehicle speed until the shaking has
stopped.
Warning light
 flashes on the in-
strument panel to inform the driver.

From the outside of the vehicle, pull on
the light unit to remove it then unscrew
bulb holder 3 a quarter of a turn.
Replace the bulb.
Bulb type: W5W.
Refitting
To refit, proceed in the reverse order,
taking care not to damage the wiring.
REAR LIGHTS AND SIDE LIGHTS: changing bulbs (1/3)
The bulbs are under pres-
sure and can break when
replaced.
Risk of injury.
Side lights, brake lights and
direction indicators
Consult an approved Dealer.
Reversing lights
From the boot, unclip the cover on the
interior trim of the boot lid.
Using a screwdriver, unscrew bolt 2 to
remove the light, then change the bulb.
