If the tested systems are OK, the corresponding warning lights go out for a
few seconds after switching on the ignition or after starting the engine.
The status of some features and systems is shown by the warning lights
» page 33 .WARNING■
Ignoring illuminated warning icons and related messages or instructions
in the display of the instrument cluster may lead to serious personal injury
or damage to the vehicle.■
If you have to stop for technical reasons, then park the vehicle at a safe
distance from the traffic, switch off the engine and activate the hazard
warning lights system » page 64. The warning triangle must be set up at
the prescribed distance - observe the national legal provisions when doing
so.
■
The engine compartment of your car is a hazardous area. While working in
the engine compartment, be sure to observe the following warnings
» page 150 , Engine compartment .

The temperature of the automatic transmission clutches is too high.  do not continue to drive!
Stop the vehicle and turn off the engine.
Switch on the ignition and wait until the message disappears – risk of
gearbox damage!
The journey can be continued as soon as the warning light and the mes-
sage go out.
If the warning light and the message do not go out, do not continue
driving. Seek help from a specialist garage.
Error: gearbox. Reverse gear not available.
GEARBOX ERROR REV_ GEAR NOT AVAIL Fault in the automatic transmission, reverse gear cannot be engaged.

› Stop the vehicle, switch off the engine, and check the engine oil level

The warning icon will go out if the bonnet is left open for more than 30 sec-
onds. If no engine oil has been replenished, the warning icon will come on
again after driving about 100 km.

 Diesel particulate filter (diesel engine)

The diesel particulate filter separates the soot particles from the exhaust. The soot particles collect in the diesel particulate filter where they are burnt on a
regular basis.
If the warning icon 
illuminates , soot has accumulated in the diesel particu-
late filter.
To clean the filter, and where traffic conditions permit »
, drive for at least
15 minutes or until the warning icon 
goes out as follows.
4th or 5th gear engaged (automatic transmission: Position D/S).
Vehicle speed at least 70 km/h.
Engine speed between 1,800-2,500 rpm.
If the filter is properly cleaned, the warning icon 
goes out .
If the filter is not properly cleaned, illumination of the warning icon

does
not take place and the warning light

flash.

DIESEL PM FILTER OWNER MANUAL
Seek assistance from a specialist garage immediately.
WARNING■ The diesel particulate filter reaches very high temperatures - there is a
fire hazard and serious injury could be caused. Therefore, never stop the
vehicle at places where the underside of your vehicle can come into contact
with flammable materials such as dry grass, undergrowth, leaves, spilled
fuel or such like.■
Always adjust the speed and driving style to the actual weather, road, ter-
rain and traffic conditions. The recommendations indicated by the warning
light must not tempt you to disregard the national regulations for road traf-
fic. 

Outside temperatureRead and observe

The current outside temperature is shown in the display.
If the outside temperature drops below +4 °C while driving, the following sym-
bol 
(low temperature warning) is displayed and an audible signal will sound.
If the outside temperature when the ignition is switched on is below +4 ° C,
the following icon appears in the display 
.
WARNINGEven at temperatures of around +4 °C, there may still be black ice on the
road surface. You should therefore not rely solely on the outside tempera-
ture display for accurate information as to whether there is ice on the road.

The function of the gear recommendation is to help reduce fuel consumption.
A suitable gear is engaged, if necessary, a recommendation to shift to high or
lower gear is displayed.

The gear recommendation is intended only for vehicles with a manual trans-
mission or for vehicles with an automatic transmission in manual shift mode
(Tiptronic).WARNINGThe driver is always responsible for selecting the correct gear in different
driving situations, such as overtaking.
For the sake of the environment
A suitably selected gear has the following advantages.■It helps to reduce fuel consumption.■
It reduces engine noise.
■
It protects the environment.
■
It benefits the service life and reliability of the engine.
Door, luggage compartment or bonnet warning
Read and observe
on page 43 first.
If at least one door is open, or the boot or bonnet is open, the display indicates
the relevant open door or boot/bonnet.
An acoustic signal will also sound if you drive the vehicle above 6 km/h when a
door is open.
Auto-check control
Read and observe
on page 43 first.
Certain functions and conditions of individual vehicle systems are checked
continuously when the ignition is switched on.
Error messages and other information appear on the display.
Some messages are displayed simultaneously with the warning lights
» page 33 or warning icons in the display » page 38.
While the operational faults remain unrectified, the messages are always indi-
cated again. After they are displayed for the first time, the symbols 
or 
continue to be indicated without information for the driver. 

The vehicle is unlocked.
If the ignition switch cannot be turned on, turn the steering wheel back and
forth slightly to unlock the steering lock.

peat the start-up process after approx. half a minute.

Note
■ The engine running noises may at first be louder for a short time after start-

You should not switch on any major electrical components during the heat-
ing period otherwise the vehicle battery will be drained unnecessarily.

CAUTION
Do not switch the engine off immediately at the end of your journey after the
engine has been operated over a prolonged period at high loads but leave it to
run at an idling speed for about 1 minute. This prevents any possible accumula-
tion of heat when the engine is switched off.

The radiator fan can intermittently continue to run for approximately 10 mi-

try to start.
If the driver's door is opened while the ignition is on, an audible signal sounds
and the following message appears in the instrument cluster display.

tomatically.

Emergency shutdown
If necessary and in exceptional cases, the engine may even be turned off while driving.

twice within 1 second.
After the emergency stop of the engine, the steering lock will remain un-
locked.
CAUTION
Do not switch the engine off immediately at the end of your journey after the

tion of heat when the engine is switched off.

The key in the vehicle cannot be verified
If the key in the vehicle cannot be verified, then engine cannot be started by
pressing a button.
The following message is shown in the information cluster display. Key not recognised. Owner's Manual!
Key not found.
NO KEY
The reasons for this may be.
› The battery in the key is almost out of charge.
› The key is malfunctioning
› There is interference in the signal between the system and the key (strong
electromagnetic field).

If the following message appears on the display of the instrument cluster,
there is a system malfunction.
Keyless access system faulty.

CAUTION
The key can only be verified if it is in the vehicle. It is therefore not always nec-

If engine fails to start after pressing the button with the key, seek speciaist
help.

109WARNING■ Greater physical effort is required for braking when the engine is switch-
ed off – risk of accident.■
The clutch pedal must be depressed when braking on a vehicle with man-
ual transmission, when the vehicle is in gear and at low revs. Otherwise,
the functionality of the brake system may be impaired – risk of accident!
■
When leaving the vehicle, never leave persons who might, for example,
release the handbrake or take the vehicle out of gear unattended, in the
vehicle. The vehicle might then move off – risk of accident.
■
Observe the recommendations on the new brake pads » page 113.
CAUTION
Never let the brakes slip with light pressure on the pedal if braking is not nec-
essary. This causes the brakes to overheat and can also result in a longer brak-
ing distance and excessive wear.

Wear-and-tear
The wear of the brake pads is dependent on the operating conditions and driv-
ing style.
The brake pads wear more quickly if a lot of journeys are completed in towns
and over short distances or if a very sporty style of driving is adopted. 

WARNINGPlease note that the handbrake must be fully released. A handbrake which
is only partially released can result in the rear brakes overheating. This can
have a negative effect on the operation of the brake system – risk of acci-
dent!

Only carry out the activities while parking in the specified order.

CAUTION■If not in the process of changing gear, do not leave your hand on the gear-
shift lever while driving. The pressure from the hand can cause the gearshift
mechanism to wear excessively.■
When stopping on a slope, never try to keep the vehicle in position by using
the accelerator pedal – this may lead to damage of clutch parts.
Pedals
The operation of the pedals must not be hindered under any circumstances!
In the driver's foot well, only a foot mat, which is attached to the two corre-
sponding attachment points, may be used.
Only use factory-supplied foot mats or foot mats from the range of
ŠKODAOriginal Accessories, which are fitted to two the two required attach-
ment points.
WARNINGNo objects are allowed in the driver's footwell – there is a risk of obstruct-
ing or restriction pedal operation.

The automatic transmission performs automatic gear changes.
The modes for the automatic transmission can be adjusted by the driver by
means of the selector lever.
WARNING■ Never accelerate when the mode for moving forward is set with the se-
lector lever - there is a risk of accident!■
Never shift the selector lever to R or P modes when driving – there is a
risk of an accident.
■
The vehicle must be held on the brake pedal in D, S or R modes if the ve-
hicle is halted and the engine is running. Even when the engine is idling,
power transmission is never completely interrupted – the vehicle will creep.
■
When leaving the vehicle, the selector lever is always to be put in the P
mode. Otherwise the vehicle could then start to move and potentially cause
an accident.
CAUTION
■ If the selector lever is moved to mode N while driving, the accelerator pedal
must be released and you will need to wait until the engine has reached its
idling speed before moving the selector lever to a forward driving mode again.■
When the outdoor temperature is below -10 ° C, the selector lever, when
starting, must always be in P mode.
■
When stopping on a slope, never try to keep the vehicle in position by using
the accelerator pedal – this may lead to gear damage.
Note
After the ignition is switched off, the ignition key can only be withdrawn if the
selector lever is in the position P (valid only for certain countries).110Driving

WARNING■The CCS only serves as an assistance and does not relieve the driver of
the responsibility for the vehicle operation.■
Always adjust the speed and driving style to the current visibility, weath-
er, road and traffic conditions.
■
After pressing the clutch pedal, no interrupted control occurs! For exam-
ple, if a different gear is engaged and the clutch pedal is released, control is
continued.

Basic requirements for starting the control The CCS is activated.
On vehicles with a manual transmission , the second gear or higher is en-
gaged.
On vehicles with an automatic transmission , the selector lever is in the D/

The current speed is higher than approx. 20 km/h.
This is only possible within the range which is permitted by the power output
and braking power of the engine.WARNINGIf the engine power and engine braking effect is insufficient to maintain
the set speed, vehicle operation must be taken over!
