Failure of the central locking
In the event of failure of central locking, the key can be used to lock or unlock
the driver's door alone. The other doors and the tailgate can be emergency
locked or emergency released.

Displaying an error
If the warning icon in the driver's door initially flashes quickly for around 2 sec-
onds, and then lights up for 30 seconds without interruption before flashing
again slowly, you will need to seek the assistance of a specialist garage.
Discharged battery in the remote control key
If the red warning light B » Fig. 30 on page 50 does not flash when you press
a button on the remote control key the battery is dead.
If the voltage of the battery in the remote control key is too low, the following
message appears in the display of the instrument cluster.
Change the key battery!

Anti-theft alarm system


The anti-theft alarm system increases the level of protection against theft and
break-in
The alarm system triggers audible and visual signals if an attempt is made to
break into the vehicle (hereafter referred to only as alarm).
Triggering the alarm
The alarm is triggered when the following unauthorized actions are carried out
on the locked vehicle.
› Opening the bonnet.
› Opening the boot lid.
› Opening the doors.
› Manipulation of the ignition lock.
› Towing the vehicle
» page 55.
› Movement in the vehicle
» page 55.
› Sudden and significant voltage failure of the electrical system.
› Uncoupling the trailer

If the driver's door of a vehicle with a remote control is unlocked and opened by the lock cylinder, then the alarm is triggered.
Switching off the alarm
The alarm is turned off by pressing the  button on the radio remote control
key or switching on the ignition. 

CAUTIONBefore leaving the vehicle, check that the doors and windows are closed in or-
der to ensure that the alarm system is fully operational.
Note
The working life of the alarm siren is 5 years.
Activating/deactivating
Read and observe

Activating
The alarm system is activated automatically approximately 30 seconds after
the vehicle is locked.
If the vehicle is unlocked and a door or the boot lid not opened within the next
45 seconds, the vehicle will lock again automatically and the SafeLock system
or anti-theft alarm system will be switched back on. This function is intended
to prevent the car being unlocked unintentionally.
Deactivating
The alarm system is deactivated automatically after the vehicle is unlocked. If
the vehicle is not opened within 45 seconds, the alarm system is automatically
activated again.
The alarm system is also deactivated if you unlock the driver door using the
key within 45 seconds of locking the vehicle.
Interior monitor and towing protection

The interior monitor detects movements inside the car and then triggers the
alarm.
The tow-away protection triggers the alarm if a vehicle is registered as being
on an inclination.
Activating
The interior monitor and the towing protection are activated automatically af-
ter the vehicle is locked.
Deactivating›
Switch off the ignition.

Open the driver door.
›
Press the symbol button 

The illumination of the symbol 
in the button changes from red to orange.

Lock the vehicle within 30 seconds.
Deactivate the interior monitor and the towing protection if there is a possibili-
ty of the alarm being triggered by movements (e.g. by children or animals)
within the vehicle interior or if the vehicle has to be transported (e.g. by train
or ship) or towed.
CAUTION
■ The opened glasses storage compartment reduces the effectiveness of the
interior monitor. To ensure the full functionality of the interior monitor, the
glasses storage compartment must always be closed before locking the vehi-
cle.■
The anti-theft alarm system is activated when the vehicle is locked, even if
the SafeLock system is deactivated. The interior monitor is however not acti-
vated.

WARNING■Ensure that the lock is properly engaged after closing the boot lid. Other-
wise, the lid might open suddenly while the vehicle is moving, even if the
lid was locked – risk of accident!■
Never drive with the tailgate fully opened or slightly ajar otherwise ex-
haust gases may get into the interior of the vehicle – risk of poisoning.
■
Do not press on the rear window when closing the tailgate, as otherwise
this could crack – risk of injury.
■
Make sure that when closing the boot lid, no body parts are crushed -
there is danger of injury!
Note
The function of the button in the grip above the licence plate is deactivated
when starting off or at a speed of 5 km/hour or more for vehicles with central
locking. The function is restored after the vehicle stops and the door is
opened.

there is the risk of damage to the hook.
Automatic locking of the boot lid
Read and observe

If the boot lid is unlocked with the key symbol  on the remote control key,
then the door is automatically locked after closing.
The period after which the boot lid is locked automatically can be extended by
a specialist garage.
After the activation of the delayed locking, the door can be opened again after
closing within a limited period.
Delayed locking can be deactivated by a specialist garage at any time.
CAUTION
There is a risk of unwanted entry into the vehicle before the boot lid is locked
automatically. We therefore recommend locking the vehicle with the key sym-
bol 
on the remote control key.

Please observe the following for the purpose of maintaining good handling
characteristics of your vehicle:
›
Distribute loads as evenly as possible.
›
Place heavy objects as far forward as possible.
›
Attach the items of luggage to the lashing eyes or by using the fixing nets
» page 85 .
In the event of an accident, even small and light objects gain so much kinetic
energy that they can cause severe injuries.
The magnitude of the kinetic energy is dependent on the speed at which the
vehicle is travelling and the weight of the object.
Example: In the event of a frontal collision at a speed of 50 km/h, an object
weighing 4.5 kg produces energy corresponding to 20 times its own weight.
This means that it results in a weight of approx. 90 kg “ ”.
Luggage compartment light
The warning light turns on when tailgate is opened.
The warning light turns off when the tailgate is closed.
If the boot lid is open and the ignition switched off, the light will extinguish
automatically after around 10 minutes.WARNING■ Always store transported objects in the boot and attach them to the lash-
ing eyes.■
Loose objects can be thrown forward during a sudden manoeuvre or in
case of an accident and can injure the occupants or other road users.
■
Loose objects could hit a deployed airbag and injure occupants – risk to
life!
■
Please note that the handling properties of the vehicle may be affected
when transporting heavy objects as the centre of gravity can be shifted –
risk of accident. The speed and style of driving must be adjusted according-
ly.
■
If the items of luggage or objects are attached to the lashing eyes with
unsuitable or damaged lashing straps, injuries can occur in the event of
braking manoeuvres or accidents. To prevent items of luggage from moving
around, always use suitable lashing straps that are firmly attached to the
lashing eyes.
■
Items carried in the luggage compartment must be stowed in such a way
that no objects are able to slip forward under sudden driving manoeuvres
or braking – risk of injury.
■
When transporting objects in the luggage compartment that has been en-
larged by folding the rear seats forward, ensure the safety of the passen-
gers transported on the other rear seats » page 11. 

Fold up variable loading floor / secure variable loading floor
For easier handling, e. g. with the spare tyre, the variable load floor can be fol-
ded up and fastened by means of a hook on the frame of the boot lid.
The variable loading floor can be folded up in both positions (both upper and
lower) and fastened.

WARNINGThe folded-up variable cargo floor limits the driver's view to the rear.
CAUTION
Before closing the tailgate, the variable loading floor is to be unhooked from
the frame and set in the upper or lower position - there is a risk of damage to

any other agreements. You should keep the confirmed warranty certificate and
the receipt for these accessories for this period, so that the commencement of
the warranty term may be verified.

Spoiler
Read and observe
on page 137 first.
If your new vehicle is fitted with a spoiler on the front bumper in combination
with the spoiler on the luggage compartment lid, then the following instruc-
tions must be adhered to.
› For safety reasons the vehicle must only ever be equipped with a spoiler on
the front bumper in combination with the associated spoiler on the tailgate.
› A spoiler cannot be fitted alone on the front bumper nor in combination with-
out a spoiler on the tailgate or in combination with an inappropriate spoiler
on the tailgate.
› We recommend that you consult a ŠKODA Service Partner for any repairs, re-
placement, fitting or removal of spoilers.
WARNING■ Work not properly performed on the spoilers on your vehicle can result in
faults - there is a risk of an accident and serious injury.■
If a front spoiler, full wheel trim, etc. is mounted retrospectively, it must
be ensured that the air supply to the front wheel brakes is not reduced.
The front brakes may overheat, which can have a negative impact on the
functioning of the braking system – there is a risk of an accident.
Component protection
Read and observe
on page 137 first.
Some electronic vehicle components (such as the instrument cluster) are fac-
tory-equipped with component protection.
Component protection has been developed as a protection mechanism for the
following situations.
› Impairment of factory- or garage-fitted electronic components after installa-
tion in another vehicle (for example, after a theft).
› Impairment of electronic components used outside the vehicle.
› The possibility of a legitimate installation or change of electronic compo-
nents for repairs at a specialist garage.
The activated component protection can be realized by functional limitations
of the specific electronic component. Seek help from a specialist garage.
Airbags
Read and observe
on page 137 first.
The system components for the airbag system may be found in the front
bumper, doors, front seats, the roof lining or in the bodywork.
WARNINGAny work on the airbag system including the installation and removal of
system components due to other repair work (e.g. removal of the steering
wheel) must only be carried out by a specialist garage.■
Adjustments, repairs and modifications which have been carried out un-
professionally can cause damage, operational faults, and can also seriously
impair the effectiveness of airbag system – there is the risk of an accident
and fatal injury.
■
The airbag system must be replaced if an airbag has been deployed. Air-
bag modules cannot be repaired.
WARNINGInformation on the use of the airbag system■It is prohibited to tamper with individual parts of the airbag system as this
might result in the airbag being deployed. 139Care and maintenance

CAUTION■Screw the jack back to the starting position before storing in the box with
the tool kit screws.■
Ensure that the vehicle tool kit is safely secured in the boot.
■
Ensure that the box is always secured with the strap.
Note
The declaration of conformity is included with the jack or the log folder.
Reserve and temporary spare wheel

When using an emergency or spare wheel make sure to mount a wheel with
the appropriate dimensions and design as soon as possible.
After changing the spare wheel, the tyre pressure should be adjusted. In vehi- cles with tyre pressure monitoring tyre pressure values are to be stored
» page 127 .
WARNING■
If, you get a puncture a spare tyre has to be mounted with a non-bound
direction or opposite direction of rotation when, then drive carefully. In this
situation the best properties of the tyre are no longer present.■
If the dimensions or design of the spare wheel differ from the tyres fitted
to the vehicle (e.g. winter tyres or low-profile tyres), it must only be used
briefly in the event of a puncture and if an appropriately cautious style of
driving is adopted.
■
If the dimensions or design of the temporary spare wheel differ from the
fitted tyres, never drive faster than 80 km/h (or 50 mph).
■
Never use the temporary spare wheel if it is damaged.

Lift up the floor in the luggage compartment.

Loosen the belt and take out the box with the tool kit.

Unscrew the nut in direction of arrow » Fig. 159.

Take out the wheel.
Stowing the wheel
›
Place the wheel into the spare wheel well with the wheel rim pointing down-
ward.
›
Pull the fixing band through the opposite holes in the wheel rim.
›
Screw on the nut in the opposite direction to the arrow » Fig. 159 until the
wheel is safely secured.
›
Replace the box with the tool kit into the spare wheel and secure it with the
tape.
›
Fold back the floor in the luggage compartment.
›
Close the tailgate.

Synchronising the remote controlRead and observe

If the vehicle does not unlock when the remote control is pressed, the key maynot be synchronised. This can occur when the buttons on the remote control
key are actuated a number of times outside of the operative range of the
equipment or the battery in the remote control key has been replaced.
Synchronise the key as follows.
›
Press any button on the remote control key.
›
Unlock the door with the key in the lock cylinder within 1 minute of pressing the button.

For vehicles with LHD insert the remote control key with the buttons facing
up into the lock cylinder and unlock or lock the vehicle.

Pull on the door handle and hold it pulled.
›
Replace the cap in its original position.
CAUTION
Make sure you do not damage the paint when performing an emergency lock-
ing/unlocking.

Insert a screwdriver or similar tool into the opening in the trim » Fig. 174 as

Unlock the lid by moving it in the direction of the arrow.
