After switching the ignition off, it is still possible to open or close the windows
for a further 10 minutes. The automatic wind
ow closing will not operate during this
time. The power windows are switched off completely once you open the driver or front passenger door.•
When driving always use the existing he
ating, air conditioning and ventilation
system for ventilating the interior of the vehicle. If the windows are opened, dust as well as other dirt can get into the vehicle and in addition the wind noise is more at certain speeds.Button in the front passenger door and in the rear doorsA button for the relevant window is provided in these doors. Opening a window – Lightly press the appropriate button
down
 and hold it until the
window has moved into the desired position.
Closing a window – Lightly press the appropriate button
up and hold it until the window
has moved into the desired position.
WARNING
The system is fitted with a force limiter
⇒page 45. If there is an obstacle, the
closing process is stopped and the window goes down. You should then take particular care when closing the wind
ows! You may otherwise suffer severe
injuries as a result of getting an arm, for example, jammed in the window!
Note
After switching the ignition off, it is still possible to open or close the windows for a further 10 minutes. The automatic closing
and opening functions will not operate
during this time. The power windows are
switched off completely once you open
the driver or front passenger door.
Force limiter of the power windowsThe electrically operated power windows are fitted with a force limiter. It reduces the risk of bruises or injuri
es when closing the windows.
If there is an obstacle, the closing proc
ess is stopped and the window goes down
into the opened position. You must try to close the window once
again within 10 seconds after the window
has gone down and if the obstacle was not yet removed, the closing process is stopped. During this time it is not po
ssible to automatica
lly close the window.
The force limiter is only switched off, if
you attempt to close the window within the
next 10 seconds -
the window closes now with full strength!
If you wait longer than 10 seconds, th
e force limiter is switched on again.
WARNING
You should take particular care when closing the windows! You may other- wis e suf fe r se v e re inj uri es a s a re s ult of g e tt ing a n ar m , for e xa m ple , ja m m e d in the window!Window convenience operationYou can open and close the electric

. The symbols which mark the switch positions are
identical. In certain countries, the low beam is on a
reduced brightness as well as the side
lights, when the ignition is switched on.
WARNING
Never drive with side lights on - risk of accident! The side lights are not bright enough to light up the road suffic
iently in front of you or to be seen by
other oncoming traffic. In this case, always switch on the low beam when it is dark or if visibility is poor.
Note
•
An audible warning will sound if you wi
thdraw the ignition key and open the
driver's door when the vehicle lights are still on.•
The acoustic warning signal is switched off over the door contact when the
driver's door is closed (ignition off). The
vehicle can be parked
with the side lights
on.•
If the car is parked for a lengthy period
, we recommend switching off all lights,
or leaving only the parking lights switched on.

The switching on of the described lights
should only be undertaken in accord-
ance with the legal requirements.•
If a fault occurs in the light switch
, the low beam comes on automatically
•
In the event of cool or humid weather co
nditions, the headligh
ts can be misted
up from inside.
− The temperature difference between interior and external area of the head- light lenses is decisive. − When the driving lights are switched on
, the light outlet surfaces are free
from mist after a short period. The headlight lenses can possibly mist up at the border areas. − It also concerns reverse light and turn signal lights. − This mist has no influence on th
e life of the lighting system.

trailer
using a factory-fitted towing device
which is fitted with the rear fog light.
The rear fog light is located in the rear light array on the driver's side.

Switching windscreen wipers off – Move the lever back into its home position .The windscreen wipers and the windscreen washer system only operate if the igni- tion is switched on. The rain sensor* automatically regulates
the break between the individual wiper
strokes depending on the intensity of the rain. The windscreen washer nozzles are heated* when the ignition is switched on.Top up with wash liquid
⇒page 172.
WARNING
•
Properly maintained windscreen wiper
blades are essential for clear visi-
bility and safe driving
⇒page 57, “Replacing wiper blades for the wind-
screen wipers”.•
Do not use the windscreen washer sy
stem at low temperatures, without
heating the windscreen beforehand. Otherwise the window cleaner could freeze on the windscreen and re
strict the view to the front.
•
The rain sensor only operates as a
support. The driver is not released
from the responsibility to set the function of the windscreen wipers manu- ally depending on the visibility conditions.
Caution
In frosty weather, please first of all check whether the windscreen wiper blades are not frozen to the windscreen before swit
ching them on. Switching on windscreen
wipers when the blades are frozen to the windscreen may result in damage both to the blades and the motor of the windscreen wipers!
Replacing wiper blades for the windscreen wipersTaking off the wiper blade – Fold windscreen wiper arm out from
 the windscreen and position the
wiper blade at right angles to the wiper arm
⇒
.
– Press the securing spring in the direction of arrow and press the
wiper blade at the same time to th
e windscreen - Warning, danger
of breaking the windscreen.
⇒

 ⇒
.
Attaching a wiper blade – Clip the securing spring until it is
heard to lock in the windscreen wiper
arm.
– Check whether the wiper blade is correctly attached.Wiper blades in proper condition are esse
ntial to obtain good visibility. Wiper
blades should not be allowed to become
dirtied by dust, insect remains and
preserving wax. Juddering or smearing of the wiper blades
could then be due to wax residues left
on the windscreen by vehicle washing in
automatic vehicle wash systems. It is
therefore important to
degrease
the lips of the wiper blades after every pass
through an
automatic vehicle wash system
.

to the windscreen.•
You should clean the wiper blades regularly with a windscreen cleaner in
order to avoid any smears. Clean a wiper bl
ade with a sponge or cloth if it is
very dirty, for example
from insect residues.

WARNING
•
Convex (curved outward) or spherical (differently curved) exterior
mirrors increase the vision field. They do, however, make objects appear smaller in the mirror. These mirrors are only of limited use, therefore, for estimating distances to the following vehicles.•
Use whenever possible the interior rear mirror, for estimating the
distances to the following vehicles.
Note
•
Do not touch the surfaces of the exterior mirrors if the exterior mirror heater is
switched on.•
You can set the exterior mirrors by hand, if
the power setting function fails at any

The seat backrests must be securely interlocked in position so that no
objects in the luggage compartment ca
n slide into the passenger compart-

Pay attention that the seat backrests are correctly interlocked. It is only
then that the three-point seat belt for the middle seat can reliably fulfil its function.•
Before folding the seat backrest back
into the secure position, place the
rear lateral seat belt behind the edge of the side trim panel. Take suitable measures to prevent that the seat belt
is jammed between the seat backrest
