2. OVERVIEW
The functions of the immobilizer and the rechargeable key are controlled by the immobilizer &
rechargeable unit. Both functions are used in this system. This immobilizer & rechargeable unit
starts the engine by communicating with the engine control unit and increases the life of the
existing REKES battery by charging the battery of the remote control key.

3. FUNCTIONS OF IMMOBILIZER & RECHARGEABLE KEY
The functions of the immobilizer and rechargeable key are similar to that of the normal REKES
key. But, there are the immobilizer function that permits the engine to start only after confirming
the encrypted coding and battery charging function.
The followings are common functions of the normal REKES key and the immobilizer &
rechargeable key.
Door Unlock and Panic Function
Breifly press (below 0.5 sec): Door unlock and
theft deterrent
mode deactivated
Press and hold (over 2 sec): Panic function
1. Door unlock (Briefly press)
If you send the door unlock signal using the
remote control key, with all the doors locked,
the door will be opened and the theft
deterrent mode will be deactivated. If the
door coupled switch of front room lamp is
pressed, the lamp will come on for 30
seconds. It will turn off immediately after the
lock button of the remote control is pressed.
2. Panic function: activated in the theft deterrent mode
When pressing the door UNLOCK and PANIC button for
approx. 2 seconds or longer, the warning alarm sounds
and the hazard warning lamp blinks for approx. 27
seconds.
The function is inactivated if any button of remote control
is pressed. ·

Breifly press (below 0.5 sec): Door lock and theft deterrent mode is activated
Press and hold (over 0.5 sec): Escort function
1. Door unlock (Briefly press)
Pressing this button locks all doors and activates the theft deterrent mode.
2. Escort function
If you press the button for more than 0.5 seconds in theft deterrent mode, the headlamp
comes on for about 20 seconds.
This function is deactivated if you press the door lock button of the remote control key. ·

2) Rechargeable Key Function (Charging)
If the communication between ECU (engine control unit), immobilizer & rechargeable unit and
transponder is establisehd successfuly (engine started), the rechargeable Li-ion battery in the
transmitter is charged.
The charging is made by creating the mutual induced electromotive force in the antenna coil and
by supplying the charging current to the battery in the key. This charging is not resulted from the
direct contact but the induced electromotive force of the coil in the transmitter according to the
change of magnetic field. For details, see the below:
Primary magnetic
induction coil Secondary magnetic
induction coil
The single coil has both immobilizer
function and recharge function.
For the immobilizer function, if the
transponder confirms the key as the
startable key by communicating with the
ECU, it induces a magnetic induction in the
primary coil by passing through the current
with a certain frequency to the immobilizer
coil. The induced electromotive force
created in this way, is stored in the
chargeable battery through the commutator
and the circuit. Primary magnetic

1. If the current flows into the secondary coil, a magnetic field is formed as above.

The magnetic field occurred in the secondary coil interrupts the magnetic field in
the primary coil. 2.
The magnetic field induced in the primary coil in this way creates the
electromotive force by letting the current flow through the coil. 3.

1. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The power steering has been designed to make the wheel move more easily than in a manual
steering system. The hydraulic power assists the process utilizing hydraulic fluid. The fluid
increases pressure in the power steering pump and aids the movement of the steering
mechanism. The power steering system consists of pump, oil reservoir, rack and gear box. The
power steering pump is a vane type and delivers hydraulic pressure to operate the power steering
system. The pressure relief valve in the pump controls the discharging pressure. The rotary valve
in the rack and the pinion gear directs the oil from the power steering pump to one side of the
rack piston. The integrated rack piston converts the hydraulic pressure to linear movement. The
operating force of the rack moves the wheels through the tie rod, the tie rod end and the steering
knuckle. Even though the hydraulic pressure cannot be generated, a driver can steer the vehicle
without power assist but it needs very high steering force. In this case, the operating force of the
steering wheel is conveyed to the pinion, and the movement of the pinion moves the rack through
the pinion gear combined to the rack gear.
