NOTEDo not wipe the camera with
alcohol, benzine or paint thinner.
Otherwise, discoloration may occur.
To remove contamination, wipe the
camera with a cloth moistened with a
diluted neutral detergent. Then wipe it
with a soft, dry cloth.
When waxing the vehicle, be careful
not to apply the wax to the camera. If it
comes in contact with the camera,
moisten a clean cloth with a diluted
neutral detergent to remove the wax.
The camera lens has a hard coating
to help prevent scratches. However,
when washing the vehicle or cleaning
the camera lens, be careful not to
scratch the camera lens. Do not use a
washing brush directly on the camera
lens. The image quality of the rear view
camera may deteriorate.
Strong light shined on the camera
lens may develop vertical lines around
the light source. This is not a malfunc-
tion.
Under the fluoresc ent light, the
display may flicker. However, this is
not a malfunction.
The image of the rear view camera
may be slightly different from the
actual color of the objects.
If there is a malfunction on the
center information display, refer to
"Malfunctions of th e Center Informa-
tion Display"
P327.
■
How to Use the Rear View
Camera
When the shift lever/select lever is set to
“R”, the rear view camera automatically
displays the rear view image from the
Since the range of the image on
the monitor is limited, always
check the rear view and the
surrounding area with your eyes
and mirrors, and move backward
at a slow speed. Moving back-
ward only by checking the rear
view image from the camera
could cause an accident. Do not disassemble or modify the
camera, switch or wiring. If
smoke comes out or you smell a
strange odor, stop using the rear
view camera immediately.
Contact your SUBARU dealer for
an inspection. Continued use
may result in accident, fire or
electric shock.
CAUTION
When washing your vehicle with
a high-pressure washer, do not
allow water to touch the camera
directly. Entry of water in the
camera lens may result in
condensation, malfunction, fire
or electric shock.Since the camera is a precision
device, do not subject it to strong
impacts. Otherwise, malfunction,
fire or electric shock may occur.
If mud or snow sticks to or is
frozen on the camera, you must
be very careful when removing it.
Otherwise, damage to the camera
may cause a fire or electric shock.
Pour water or lukewarm water
over the camera to remove mud
and ice, and wipe it with a soft,
dry cloth.Do not put a flame close to the
camera or wiring. Otherwise,
damage or fire may occur. When replacing the fuse, be sure
to use a fuse with the specified
rating. Use of a fuse with a
different rating may result in a
malfunction. If you use the rear view camera
for a long time wh ile the engine is
not operated, the battery may
become completely discharged.

Towing
324holes, return the plugs to their original
places.■
Using a Flat-Bed Truck
This is the best way to transport your
vehicle. Use the following procedures to
ensure safe transportation.
1. Shift the select lever into the “P” posi-
tion for AT models. Shift the shift lever into
the “1st” position for MT models.
2. Apply the parking brake firmly.
3. Secure the vehicle onto the carrier
properly with safety chains. Each safety
chain should be equally tightened and
care must be taken not to pull the chains
so tightly that the suspension bottoms out.
■
Towing with All Wheels on
the Ground
WARNING
Use the rear tie-down holes only for
downward anchoring. If they are
used to anchor the vehicle in any
other direction, cables may slip out
of the holes, possibly causing a
dangerous situation.
900488
CAUTION
Transport by flat-bed truck may
cause the headlights to become
misaligned. In such a case, have the
headlight alignment checked by a
SUBARU dealer after transporting
the vehicle by flat-bed truck.
WARNING
Never turn the ignition switch to
the “OFF” position while the
vehicle is being towed because
the steering wheel and the direc-
tion of the wheels will be locked.Remember that the brake booster
and power steering do not func-
tion when the engine is not
running. Because the engine is
turned off, it w ill take greater
effort to operate the brake pedal
and steering wheel.

To close the hood:
1. Lift the hood slightly and remove the
hood prop from the slot in the hood and
return the prop to its retainer.
2. Lower the hood to a height of approxi-

11-27. Installation of Acces-soriesAlways consult your SUBARU dealer
before installing fog lights or any other
electrical equipment in your vehicle. Such
accessories may cause the electronic
system to malfunction if they are incor-
rectly installed or if they are not suited for
the vehicle. We recommend that you
install only genuine SUBARU accessories
on your vehicle.
11-28. Replacing Bulbs
■
Headlights
The LED headlight warning light illumi-
nates if the LED headlights malfunction.
Have your vehicle inspected at a
SUBARU dealer as soon as possible.■
Backup Light
NOTE
It may be difficult to replace the
bulbs. We recommend that you have
the bulbs replaced by your SUBARU
dealer if necessary.
If a genuine SUBARU accessory has
been installed to the rear bumper,
check the manual included with the
accessory.
WARNING
Bulbs may become very hot while
illuminated. Before replacing bulbs,
turn off the lights and wait until the
bulbs cool down, Otherwise, there
is the risk of sustaining a burn
injury.
CAUTION
Before replacing a backup light,
stop the engine and allow the
exhaust pipes and surrounding
parts to cool suffi ciently. As the
bulbs are near the exhaust pipes,
there is a risk of being burned. Replace any bulb only with a new
bulb of the specified wattage.
Using a bulb of different wattage
could result in a fire. For the spec-
ified wattage of each bulb, refer to
"Bulb Chart"
P387. For replace-
ment, contact your SUBARU

NOTE Each quantity indicated is only a guideline. The necessary quantity for replacement may differ slightly depending on the
temperature and other factors.
In choosing an oil, you want the proper quality and viscosity, as well as one that will enhance fuel economy. Oils of lower
viscosity provide better fuel economy. However, in hot weather, o il of higher viscosity is required to properly lubricate the
engine. The following table lists the recommended viscosities and applicable temperatures.Compression ratio 12.5 : 1
Firing order 1 – 3 – 2 – 4
