To adjust the angle of the seatback, move
the control switch. !Seat cushion angle adjustment (Driver ’s seat only)
To adjust the seat cushion angle, pull up or push down the front end of the control switch. !
Seat height adjustment (Driver ’s
seat only)
To adjust the seat height, pull up or push
down the rear end of the control switch. & Memory function (Driver ’s
seat only, if equipped)
Two of your favorite seat positions can be
registered. Register the seat position withbutton “1 ” or “2 ” and retrieve the seat
position by pressing either button.
The following seat positions can be registered: . Forward/backward position of the seat
. Angle of seatback .
Angle of seat cushion
. Height of seat
! Registration of seat position
WARNING
. Never adjust the seat while driv-
ing to avoid the possibility of
loss of vehicle control and of
personal injury.
. Before adjusting the seat, make
sure the hands, feet and posses-
sions of rear seat passengers are
clear of the adjusting mechan-ism.
. Before registering the seat posi-
tion, confirm that the shift lever is
in the “P ” position (AT vehicles)
or the parking brake lever is
applied (MT vehicles).
1. Shift the shift lever in the “P ” position
(AT vehicles) or apply the parking brake
(MT vehicles).
2. Adjust the seat position. Seat, seatbelt and SRS airbags

Preparing to drive
You should perform the following checks
and adjustments every day before you
start driving.
1. Check that all windows, mirrors, and
lights are clean and unobstructed.
2. Check the appearance and condition
of the tires. Also check tires for properinflation.
3. Look under the vehicle for any sign of leaks.
4. Check that the hood, trunk (Sedan)
and rear gate (Station wagon) are fullyclosed.
5. Check the adjustment of the seat.
6. Check the adjustment of the inside
and outside mirrors.
7. Fasten your seatbelt. Check that your
passengers have fastened their seatbelts.
8. Check the operation of the warning
and indicator lights when the ignition
switch is turned to the“ON ”position.
9. Check the gauges, indicator and warn-
ing lights after starting the engine. NOTE
Engine oil, engine coolant, brake fluid,
washer fluid and other fluid levels
should be checked daily, weekly or at
fuel stops.
Starting the engine
CAUTION
Do not operate the starter motor
continuously for more than ten
seconds. If the engine fails to start
after operating the starter for five to
ten seconds, wait for ten seconds or
more before trying again.
& Manual transmission vehicle
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Turn off unnecessary lights and ac- cessories.
3. Press the clutch pedal to the floor and
shift the shift lever into neutral.
Hold the clutch pedal to the floor while
starting the engine. The starter motor will
only operate when the clutch pedal is
pressed fully to the floor.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON ”
position and check the operation of the
warning and indicator lights. Refer to the“ Warning and indicator lights ”section
(chapter 3).
5. Turn the ignition switch to the “START ”
position without depressing the accelera-
tor pedal. Release the key immediately
after the engine has started. Starting and operating

Replace any bulb only with a new
bulb of the specified wattage. Using
a bulb of different wattage could
result in a fire.
& Headlight
CAUTION
Halogen headlight bulbs become
very hot while in use. If you touch
the bulb surface with bare hands or
greasy gloves, finger prints or
grease on the bulb surface develop
into hot spots, causing the bulb to
break. If there are finger prints or
grease on the bulb surface, wipe
them away with a soft cloth mois-
tened with alcohol.
NOTE . If headlight aiming is required, con-
sult your SUBARU dealer for proper
adjustment of the headlight aim.. It may be difficult to replace the
bulbs. Have your SUBARU dealer re-
place the bulbs if necessary. Maintenance and service
