Engine coolant
The coolant level is satisfactory if it is between the “FULL” a nd “LOW”
lines on the reservoir w hen the engine is cold.
Reservoir cap
“FULL”
“LOW” If the level is on or below the
“LOW” line, add coolant up to the
“FULL” line.NOTICE■ To prevent serious engine damage
Check the oil level on a regular basis.
■ When replacing the engine oil
● Be careful not to spill engine oil on the vehicle components.
● Avoid overfilling, or the engine could be damaged.
● Check the oil level on the dipstick every time you refill the v ehicle.
● Be sure the engine oil filler cap is properly tightened.
■ If the coolant level drops within a short time after replenishi ng
Visually check the radiator, hoses, engine coolant filler cap, radiator cap,
drain cock and water pump.
If you cannot find a leak, have your Toyota dealer pressure test the cap and
check for leaks in the cooling system.

Check the radiator and condenser and clear away any foreign
objects.
If either of the above parts are extremely dirty or you are not sure of
their condition, have your vehicle checked by your Toyota deale r.
Brake fluid
■ Checking fluid level
The brake fluid level should be
between the “MAX” and “MIN”
lines on the tank.

Do not touch the radiator or condenser as they may be hot and c ause seri-
ous injuries, such as burns.

Washer fluid
If the washer fluid level is at
“LOW”, add washer fluid.NOTICE■ When recharging the battery
Never recharge the battery while the engine is running. Also, b e sure all
accessories are turned off.
■ When adding distilled water
Avoid overfilling. Water spilled during battery recharging may cause corro-
sion.
■ Using the gauge
The washer fluid level can be checked by
observing the position of the level on the
liquid-covered holes in the gauge.
If the level falls below the second hole
from the bottom (the “LOW” position),

Checking and replacing fuses If any of the electrical compone nts do not operate, a fuse may have
blown. If this happens, check and replace the fuses as necessar y.
Vehicles without a smart key system
Turn the engine switch off.
Vehicles with a smart key system
Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch off.
Open the fuse box cover.
Engine compartment
Push the tabs in and lift the lid
off.
Instrument panel

■
If the tire pressure warn ing system is inoperative
The tire pressure warning system will be disabled in the follow ing condi-
tions:
(When the condit ion becomes no rmal, the system will work proper ly.)●
If tires not equipped with tire pressure warning valves and tra nsmit-
ters are used.●
If the ID code on the tire pressure warning valves and transmit ters is
not registered in the tire pressure warning computer.●
If the tire inflation p ressure is 55 psi ( 380 kPa, 3.87 kgf/cm 2
or bar) or
higher.
The tire pressure warning system may be disabled in the followi ng condi-
tions:
(When the condit ion becomes no rmal, the system will work proper ly.)●
If electronic devices or facilities using similar radio wave fr equencies
are nearby.●
If a radio set at similar frequen cies is in use i n the vehicle.●
If a window tint that affects the radio wave signals is install ed.●
If there is a lot of snow or ice on the vehicle, in particular around the
wheels or wheel housings.
●
If non-genuine Toyota wheels are used. (Even if you use Toyota
wheels, the tire pressure warning system may not work properly with
some types of tires.)
●
If tire chains are used.
●
If a large metallic object which can interfere with signal rece ption is
put in the trunk.
■
If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after bl inking
for approximately one minute
If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after bl inking for
approximately one minute when the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is
turned to IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with a smart key system) o r the
engine switch is turned to the “ON” position (vehicles without a smart key
system), have it check ed your Toyota dealer.

Have the malfunction repaired immediately.
After taking the specified steps to correct the suspected probl em,

WARNING■
Using the tire jack
Improper use of the tire jack may lead to death or serious inju ries due to
the vehicle suddenly falling off the jack. ●
Do not use the tire jack for any purpose other than replacing t ires or
installing and removing tire chains.●
Only use the tire jack that comes with this vehicle for replacing a flat
tire.
Do not use it on other vehicles, and do not use other tire jack s for
replacing tires on this vehicle.●
Always check that the tire jack is securely set to the jack poi nt.●
Do not put any part of your body under the vehicle supported by a jack.●
Do not start or run the engine while your vehicle is supported by the
jack.
●
Do not raise the vehicle while someone is in it.
●
When raising the vehicle, do not put an object on or under the jack.
●
Do not raise the vehicle to a height greater than that required to
replace the tire.
●
Use a jack stand if it is necessary to get under the vehicle.
Take particular care when lowering the vehicle to ensure that n o one
working on or near the vehicle may be injured.

Emergency start function (vehicles with a smart key system)
When the engine does not start, the following steps can be used as
an interim measure to start the engine if the “ENGINE START STO P”
switch is functioning normally:
Vehicles with an auto matic transmission
Set the parking brake.
Put the shift lever in P.
Set the “ENGINE START STOP” switch to ACCESSORY
mode.
Press and hold the “ENGINE START STOP” switch about 15
seconds while depressing the brake pedal firmly.
Even if the engine can be started using the above steps, the sy stem
may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle checked by your Toyota
dealer.■ The starter motor does not turn over, the interior lights and
headlights do not turn on, o r the horn does not sound.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
● One or both of the battery ter minals may be disconnected.
● The battery may be discharged. ( P. 444)
● There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system. (vehi-
cles with a smart key system) Contact your Toyota dealer if the problem cannot be repaired, o r if
repair procedures are unknown.

Vehicles with a manual transmission
Set the parking brake.
Put the shift lever in N.
Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch to ACCESSORY
mode.
Push and hold the “ENGINE START STOP” switch for about
15 seconds while depressing the brake pedal and clutch
pedal firmly.
Even if the engine can be started using the above steps, the sy stem
may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle checked by your Toyota

Starting the engine
Vehicles with an auto matic transmission
Ensure that the shift lever is in P and firmly depress the brak e
pedal.
Touch the Toyota emblem side of
the electronic key to the
“ENGINE START STOP” switch. When the electronic key is
detected, a buzzer sounds and
the “ENGINE START STOP”
switch will turn to IGNITION ON
mode.
When the smart key system is
deactivated in customization set-
ting, the “ENGINE START STOP”
switch will turn to ACCESSORY
mode.
Firmly depress the brake pedal and check that the smart key
system indicator ligh t (green) turns on.
Press the “ENGINE START STOP” switch.
In the event that the “ENGINE START STOP” switch still cannot b e
operated, contact your Toyota dealer. STEP 1
