Using engine braking
To use engine braking, select the B position.
During high speed driving, you may feel that deceleration by engine braking
is less than that of a conventional vehicle.
Do not continue normal driving with the transmission in B for a long time.
This may cause decreased fuel economy. To prevent this, use D for normal
driving.
Reverse warning buzzer
When shifting into R, a buzzer will sound to inform the driver that the shift
position is in R.
When the accelerator pedal is depressed while the shift position is in N
A buzzer will sound to inform the driver that the shift position is in N.
Eco drive mode
When the accelerator pedal is depressed in Eco drive mode, it may take more
time to accelerate than usual. This is normal operation.
For the shift positions
When the power switch is off, the shift position cannot be changed.
When the power switch is in ON mode (the hybrid system is not operating),
the shift position can only be changed to N. The shift position will be
changed to N even if the shift position is shifted to D or R and held in that
position.
When the “READY” indicator is on, the shift position can be changed from P
to D, N or R.
When the “READY” indicator is flashing, the shift position cannot be
changed from P to another position even if the shift lever is operated.
Wait until the “READY” indicator changes from a flashing to a solid light, and
then operate the shift lever again.
The shift position can only be changed to B directly from D.

To set the parking brake, fully
pull the parking brake lever
while depressing the brake
pedal.
To release the parking brake,
slightly raise the lever and
lower it completely while press-
ing the button.
Parking brake engaged warning buzzer
A buzzer will sound if the vehicle is driven at a speed of approximately 5 km/h

Hybrid model: This system allows the headlights to be turned on for
30 seconds when the power switch is off.

AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System) secures excellent visibility at
intersections and on curves by automatically adjusting the direction of
the light axis of the headlights according to vehicle speed and the
degree of the tire’s angle as controlled by steering input.
AFS operates at speeds of 10 km/h (6 mph) or higher.

Deactivating AFS

Daytime running light system
Except hybrid model
To make your vehicle more visible to other drivers, the front position lights
turn on automatically whenever the engine is started and the parking brake is
released. Daytime running lights are not designed for use at night.
Hybrid model

brake is released. Daytime running lights are not designed for use at night.

When the light switch is in or : The headlights and front fog lights
(if equipped) turn off automatically if the engine switch is turned off.
When the light switch is in : All lights turn off automatically if the engine
switch is turned off.
To turn the lights on again, turn the engine switch to the “ON” position, or turn
the light switch off once and then back to or .

When the light switch is in or : The headlights and front fog lights

object is placed on the sensor, or anything
that blocks the sensor is affixed to the
windshield.
Doing so interferes with the sensor
detecting the level of ambient light and
may cause the automatic headlight sys-
tem to malfunction.

A buzzer sounds when the engine switch is turned off or turned to the “ACC”
position and the driver's door is opened while the lights are turned on.

A buzzer sounds when the engine switch is turned off or turned to ACCES-
SORY mode and the driver's door is opened while the lights are turned on.

A buzzer sounds when the power switch is turned off or turned to ACCES-
SORY mode and the driver's door is opened while the lights are turned on.
Automatic headlight leveling system (vehicles with discharge head-
lights)
The level of the headlights is automatically adjusted according to the number
of passengers and the loading condition of the vehicle to ensure that the
headlights do not interfere with other road users.
If the “AFS OFF” indicator flashes (if equipped)
It may indicate a malfunction in the system. Contact any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
