ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. BASIC INSPECTION
(a) RESISTANCE MEASURING CONDITION OF ELECTRONIC PARTS
(1) Unless stated, all resistance is measured at an ambient temperature of 20C (68F). As the re-
sistance may be outside the specifications if measured at high temperatures immediately after
the vehicle has been running, measurements should be made when the engine has cooled
down.
(b) HANDLING OF CONNECTOR
(1) When removing the connector with lock, press the
connector in the direction of the engagement and
remove the lock by lightly pressing the lock claw.
(2) When removing the connector, do not hold the har-
ness, but hold the connector.
(3) Before connecting the connector, check that there
is no deformation, damage or missing terminals.
(4) The connector with a lock should be securely con-
nected until it makes a ºclickº sound.
(5) When checking the connector with a Toyota electri-
cal tester, check it from the backside (harness side)
of the connector using a mini test lead.
NOTICE:
As a water proof connector cannot be checked from
the backside, check by connecting the sub±harness.
Do not damage the terminals by moving the inserted
tester needle.
(c) CONNECTOR CHECKING POINTS
(1) Checking when the connector is connected:
By holding the connector, check the inserted condi-
tion and locking efficiency (engaged condition).
(2) Checking when the connector is removed:
Check by lightly pulling the wire harness (missing
terminal, terminal crimping condition, core wire
break).
Check visually for any rust, metal particles, water
and bent terminals (rust, mixing of foreign object,
terminal deformation).
NOTICE:
When testing a gold±plated female terminal, always use a
gold±plated male terminal.

DTCP2119THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL THROTTLE BODY RANGE/PERFORMANCE
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Electric Throttle Control System (ETCS) is composed of the throttle m\
otor that operates the throttle
valve, the throttle position sensor that detects the opening angle of the throttle valve, the accelerator pedal
position sensor that detects the accelerator pedal position, the ECM that contro\
ls the ETCS, and the one
valve type throttle body.
The ECM controls the throttle motor to provide the proper throttle valve\
opening angle in response to the
driving condition.
The throttle position sensor which is mounted on the throttle body detects \
the opening angle of the throttle
valve, and it provides feedback to the ECM to control the throttle motor.
If the ETCS has a malfunction, the ECM shuts down the power for the throttle motor, and the throttle valve
is closed by the return spring. And the throttle valve is locked at a ce\
rtain opening angle. Also, the whole
electronically controlled throttle operation is cancelled until the system returns to normal and the ignition
switch is turned OFF.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the hand±held tester. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when
a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, it is useful for determi\
ning whether the vehicle was running
or stopped, the engine was warmed up or not, the air±fuel ratio was lea\
n or rich, etc. at the time of the mal-
function.
1CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT(IN ADDITION TO DTC P2119)

HINT:
If any other codes besides P2119 are output, perform the troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

DTC P1235 HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The fuel pump (high pressure) is an electronically controlled plunger type fuel pump (high pressure) which
is driven by the cam provided on the intake cam shaft rear end on the cylinder head.
The fuel pump (high pressure) increases the pressure of the fuel fed from the fuel pump (low pressure) in
the fuel tank at 8 to 13 MPa (81.6 to 132.6 kgf/cm
2, 1,160 to 1,885 psi) according to the operating condition,
and it feeds the fuel to the fuel delivery pipe.

HINT:
If a normal code is displayed during the DTC check but the trouble still o\
ccurs, check the circuits for each
symptom in the order given in the charts on the following pages and proceed to \
the page given for trouble-
shooting.
The Matrix Chart is divided into 3 chapters.
If the instruction ºProceed to next circuit inspection shown on matri\
x chartº is given in the flow chart
for each circuit, proceed to the circuit with the next highest number in the table to continue the check.
If the trouble still occurs even though there are no abnormalities in any of the other circuits, then ch\
eck
and replace the ECM.
