*1: These lights turn on when the engine switch is turned to the “ON” position(vehicles without smart entry & start system) or IGNITION ON mode (vehi-
cles with smart entry & start system) to indicate that a system check is
being performed. They will turn off afte r the engine is started, or after a few
seconds. There may be a malfunction in a system if a light does not turn
on, or if the lights do not turn off. Have the vehicle inspected by any autho-
rized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped pro-
fessional.
*2: The light flashes to indicate that the system is operating.
*3: The light turns on when the system is turned off.
*4: This light illuminates on the multi-information display.
*5: For vehicles with the color display, this light illuminates on the multi-infor- mation display.

Operation of each component

■Returning the seatbacks (sedan)
Tilt the seatback up until it locks, making
sure that you hold the seat belt to prevent
it from getting caught between the seat-
back and the inner side of the vehicle.
Make sure the shoulder belt passes
through the guide and that the seat belt
is in position before folding down the
seat when returning the seatback up.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in death or
serious injury.
■ When folding the rear seatbacks down
●Do not fold the seatbacks down while driving.
● Stop the vehicle on level ground, set the parking brake and shift the shift
lever to P (Multidrive) or N (manual transmission).
● Do not allow anyone to sit on a folded seatback, or in the trunk/luggage
compartment while driving.
● Do not allow children to enter the trunk/luggage compartment.
■ After returning the rear seatbacks to the upright position
●Check that the seat belts are not twisted or caught in the seatback.
NOTICE
■ Stowing the seat belt buckles
The rear seat belt buckles and the armrest must be stowed before you fold
down the rear seatbacks. ( →P. 168, 429)
■ When the rear right seatback is folded down (sedan)
Make sure the luggage loaded in the enlarged trunk will not damage the
webbing of the rear center seat belt.
● Make sure that the seatback is securely
locked in position by lightly pushing it
back and forth.
If the seatback is not securely locked,
the red marking will be visible on the
seatback lock release lever. Make sure
that the red marking is not visible.

Recall procedure
Vehicles with Multidrive:
Check that the shift lever is in P.
Vehicles with manual transmission:
Check that the parking brake is set.
Turn the engine switch to IGNITION ON mode.
Press button “1” or “2” for the
driving position you want to
recall until the buzzer
sounds.
■To stop the position recall operation part-way through
Perform any of the following:
●Press the “SET” button.
● Press button “1” or “2”.
● Operate any of the seat adjustment switches.
■ Seat positions that can be memorized ( →P. 166)
The adjusted positions other than the position adjusted by lumber support
switch can be recorded.
■ Operating the driving position memory after turning the engine switch
off
Recorded seat positions can be activated up to 180 seconds after the driver’s
door is opened and another 60 seconds after it is closed again.
■ In order to correctly use the driving position memory function
If a seat position is already in the furthest possible position and the seat is
operated in the same direction, the recorded position may be slightly different
when it is recalled.

Take care during seat adjustment so that the seat does not strike the rear
passenger or squeeze your body against the steering wheel.

XMultidrive
Make sure that the parking brake is set and shift the shift lever to D
or M.
Gently depress the accelerator pedal.
Release the parking brake.
XManual transmission
With the parking brake set and the clutch pedal fully depressed,
shift the shift lever to 1.
Lightly depress the accelerator pedal at the same time as gradually
releasing the clutch pedal.
The parking brake will automatically release. (→P. 230)
■When starting off on a uphill
The hill-start assist control is available. ( →P. 306)
■ Driving in the rain
●Drive carefully when it is raining, because visibility will be reduced, the win-
dows may become fogged-up, and the road will be slippery.
● Drive carefully when it starts to rain, because the road surface will be espe-
cially slippery.
● Refrain from high speeds when driving on an expressway in the rain,
because there may be a layer of water between the tires and the road sur-
face, preventing the steering and brakes from operating properly.
■ Engine speed while driving (vehicles with Multidrive)
In the following conditions, the engine speed may become high while driving.
This is due to automatic up-shifting control or down-shifting implementation to
meet driving conditions. It does not indicate sudden acceleration.
● The vehicle is judged to be driving uphill or downhill
● When the accelerator pedal is released
● When the brake pedal is depressed while sport mode is selected.
● When the vehicle suddenly decelerates because the brake pedal is
depressed
