■To prevent damage
Do not pour any liquids onto the “SOS” button panel, etc., and do not impact
it.
■ If the “SOS” button panel, speaker or microphone malfunctions during
an Emergency Call or manual maintenance check
It may not be possible to make Emergency Calls, confirm the sys tem status,
or communicate with the eCall control center operator. If any o f the above
equipment is damaged, please consult any authorized Toyota reta iler or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.

■ Maintenance, repair, recycling, and disposal
Contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized rep airer, or any
reliable repairer regarding maintenance, repair, recycling and disposal. Do
not dispose of the vehicle yourself.
■ Acoustic vehicle alerting system
In the following cases, the acoustic vehicle alerting system ma y be difficult for
surrounding people to hear.
● In very noisy areas
● In the wind or the rain
Also, as the acoustic vehicle alerting system is installed on t he front of the
vehicle, it may be more difficult to hear from the rear of the vehicle compared
to the front.

NOTICE
■Hybrid battery (traction battery) air intake vent
● Make sure not to block the air intake vent with anything, such as a seat
cover, plastic cover, or luggage. The hybrid battery (traction battery) may
overheat and be damaged.
● When dust, etc., has accumulated in the air intake vent, clean it with a vac-
uum cleaner to prevent the vent from clogging.
● Do not get water or foreign materials in the air intake vent as this may
cause a short circuit and damage the hybrid battery (traction b attery).
● Do not carry large amounts of water such as water cooler bottles in the
vehicle. If water spills onto the hybrid battery (traction batt ery), the battery
may be damaged. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized To yota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repaire r.
● There is a filter installed to the air intake vent. When the filter remains
noticeably dirty even after cleaning the air intake vent, filte r cleaning or
replacement is recommended. For information regarding filter cl eaning or
replacement, refer to P. 638.
● If “Maintenance required for Traction battery cooling parts. See owner’s
manual.” is shown on the multi-information display, the air int ake vent and
filter may be clogged. Refer to P. 638 for information on how t o clean the
air intake vent.

■System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type immobilizer system.
■ Conditions that may cause the system to malfunction
● If the grip portion of the key is in contact with a metallic object
● If the key is in close proximity to or touching a key registered to the security
system (key with a built-in transponder chip) of another vehicl e

Do one of the following to deactivate or stop the alarm.
● Unlock the doors using the entry function (if equipped) or wireless
remote control.
● Start the hybrid system. (The alarm will be deactivated or stopped
after a few seconds.)
■ System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type alarm system.
■ Items to check before locking the vehicle
To prevent unexpected triggering of the alarm and vehicle theft , make sure of
the following.
● Nobody is in the vehicle.
● The side windows are closed before the alarm is set.
● No valuables or other personal items are left in the vehicle.

■Tire information
● Increase the tire inflation pressure to 20.0 kPa (0.2 kgf/cm2 or bar, 3 psi)
greater than the recommended value when towing. ( P. 774)
● Increase the air pressure of the trailer tires in accordance with the total
trailer weight and according to the values recommended by the m anufac-
turer of your trailer.
■ Trailer lights
Please consult at any authorized retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer when installing trailer lights, as incorrect installation may
cause damage to the vehicle’s lights. Please take care to compl y with your
state’s laws when installing trailer lights.
■ Break-in schedule
Toyota recommends that vehicles fitted with new power train com ponents
should not be used for towing trailers for the first 800 km (50 0 miles).
■ Safety checks before towing
● Check that the maximum load limit for the towing hitch/bracket and hitch ball
is not exceeded. Bear in mind that the coupling weight of the t railer will add
to the load exerted on the vehicle. Also make sure that the tot al load exerted
on the vehicle is within the range of the weight limits. ( P. 295)
● Ensure that the trailer load is secure.
● Supplementary outside rear view mirrors should be added to the vehicle if
the traffic behind cannot be clearly seen with standard mirrors . Adjust the
extending arms of these mirrors on both sides of the vehicle so that they
always provide maximum visibility of the road behind.
■ Maintenance
● Maintenance must be performed more frequently when using the vehicle for
towing due to the greater weight burden placed on the vehicle c ompared to
normal driving.
● Retighten all bolts securing the hitching ball and bracket after towing for
approximately 1000 km (600 miles).

GPF (Gasoline Par ticulate Filter) system
■If “Exhaust filter full. See owner’s manual.” is shown on the multi-infor-
mation display
● The message may be displayed while high load driving with particulate mat-
ter accumulating.
● Hybrid system output (engine speed) is restricted when a certain amount of
particulate matter accumulates, however, it is possible to driv e the vehicle
unless the malfunction indicator lamp comes on.
● Particulate matter can accumulate more quickly if the vehicle is frequently
driven short trips or at low s peeds, or if the hybrid system is regularly started
in an extremely cold environment. Excessive accumulation of par ticulate
matter can be prevented by periodically driving long distances continuously
with intermittent releasing of the accelerator pedal, such as w hen driving on
highways and freeways.
■ If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on or “Engine Maintenance
Required. Visit Your Dealer.” is shown on the multi-information display
The amount of accumulated particulate matter has exceeded a cer tain level.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota autho-
rized repairer, or any reli able repairer immediately.
The GPF system collects particulate matter in the exhaust gas
by using an exhaust gas filter.
The system will operate to regenerate the filter automatically,
depending on the vehicle conditions.

● Do not use fuel other than the specified type
● Do not modify the exhaust pipes
