Navigation/multimedia system screen (type B)
Select on the main menu.
Select “Energy flow”.
■Reading the display
The arrows will appear in accordance with the energy flow. When
there is no energy flow, arrows will not be displayed.
The color of the arrows will change as follows
Green or blue: When the hybrid battery (traction battery) is re generated
or charged.
Yellow: When the hybrid battery (traction battery) is in use.
Red: When the gasoline engine is in use.

■ Color of the hybrid battery (traction battery) on the display
It will be green or blue when the hybrid battery (traction batt ery) is being
charged, and yellow when the hybrid battery (traction battery) is being used.
■ Remaining charge amount warning of hybrid battery (traction battery)
● The buzzer sounds intermittently when the hybrid battery (traction battery)
remains without charging while the shift lever is in N, or the remaining
charge amount drops below a certain level. If the remaining cha rge amount
drops further, the buzzer sounds continuously.
● When a warning message is shown on the multi-information display and the
buzzer sounds, follow the instructions displayed on the screen to perform
troubleshooting.
■ Color of the gasoline engine on the multimedia system screen
It will be blue when the engine is warming up, and it will turn to orange when
the warming up is finished.

■When starting off on a uphill
The hill-start assist control will activate. ( P. 531)
■ For fuel-efficient driving
Keep in mind that Hybrid Electric Vehicles are similar to conve ntional vehi-
cles, and it is necessary to refrain from activities such as su dden accelera-
tion. ( P. 538)
■ Driving in the rain
● Drive carefully when it is raining, because visibility will be reduced, the win-
dows may become fogged-up, and the road will be slippery.
● Drive carefully when it starts to rain, because the road surface will be espe-
cially slippery.
● Refrain from high speeds when driving on an expressway in the rain,
because there may be a layer of water between the tires and the road sur-
face, preventing the steering and brakes from operating properl y.
■ Restraining hybrid system output (Brake Override System)
● When the accelerator and brake pedals are depressed at the same time, the
hybrid system output may be restrained.
● A warning message is displayed on the multi-information display while the
system is operating.
■ Restraining sudden start (Drive-Start Control)
● When the following unusual operation is performed, the hybrid system out-
put may be restrained.
• When the shift lever is shifted from R to D/B, D/B to R, N to R, P to D/B,
or P to R with the accelerator pedal depressed, a warning messa ge
appears on the multi-information display. If a warning message is shown
on the multi-information display, read the message and follow t he instruc-
tion.
• When the accelerator pedal is depressed too much while the veh icle is in
reverse.
●While Drive-Start Control is being activated, your vehicle may have trouble
escaping from the mud or fresh snow. In such case, deactivate T RC (P. 532)
to cancel Drive-Start Control so that the vehicle may become ab le to escape
from the mud or fresh snow.

■Tire information
● Increase the tire inflation pressure to 20.0 kPa (0.2 kgf/cm2 or bar, 3 psi)
greater than the recommended value when towing. ( P. 774)
● Increase the air pressure of the trailer tires in accordance with the total
trailer weight and according to the values recommended by the m anufac-
turer of your trailer.
■ Trailer lights
Please consult at any authorized retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer when installing trailer lights, as incorrect installation may
cause damage to the vehicle’s lights. Please take care to compl y with your
state’s laws when installing trailer lights.
■ Break-in schedule
Toyota recommends that vehicles fitted with new power train com ponents
should not be used for towing trailers for the first 800 km (50 0 miles).
■ Safety checks before towing
● Check that the maximum load limit for the towing hitch/bracket and hitch ball
is not exceeded. Bear in mind that the coupling weight of the t railer will add
to the load exerted on the vehicle. Also make sure that the tot al load exerted
on the vehicle is within the range of the weight limits. ( P. 295)
● Ensure that the trailer load is secure.
● Supplementary outside rear view mirrors should be added to the vehicle if
the traffic behind cannot be clearly seen with standard mirrors . Adjust the
extending arms of these mirrors on both sides of the vehicle so that they
always provide maximum visibility of the road behind.
■ Maintenance
● Maintenance must be performed more frequently when using the vehicle for
towing due to the greater weight burden placed on the vehicle c ompared to
normal driving.
● Retighten all bolts securing the hitching ball and bracket after towing for
approximately 1000 km (600 miles).

■ If trailer sway occurs
One or more factors (crosswinds, passing vehicles, rough roads, etc.) can
adversely affect handling of your vehicle and trailer, causing instability.
● If trailer swaying occurs:
• Firmly grip the steering wheel. Steer straight ahead.
Do not try to control trailer swaying by turning the steering w heel.
• Begin releasing the accelerator pedal immediately but very gra dually to
reduce speed.
Do not increase speed. Do not apply vehicle brakes.
If you make no extreme correction with the steering or brakes, your vehicle
and trailer should stabilize (if enabled, Trailer Sway Control can also help to
stabilize the vehicle and trailer.).
● After the trailer swaying has stopped:
• Stop in a safe place. Get all occupants out of the vehicle.
• Check the tires of the vehicle and the trailer.
• Check the load in the trailer.
Make sure the load has not shifted.
Make sure the tongue weight is appropriate, if possible.
• Check the load in the vehicle.
Make sure the vehicle is not overloaded after occupants get in.
If you cannot find any problems, the speed at which trailer swa ying occurred
is beyond the limit of your particular vehicle-trailer combinat ion. Drive at a
lower speed to prevent instability. Remember that swaying of th e towing vehi-
cle-trailer increases as speed increases.
NOTICE
■ When the rear bumper strengthening material is aluminum
Ensure the steel bracket part does not come directly in contact with that
area.
When steel and aluminum come into contact, there is a reaction similar to
corrosion, which will weaken the section concerned and may resu lt in dam-
age. Apply a rust inhibitor to parts that will come in contact when attaching a
steel bracket.

WARNING
■When the vehicle is on a steep incline
When using the brake hold system on a steep incline exercise ca ution. The
brake hold function may not hold the vehicle in such a situatio n.
■ When stopped on a slippery road
The system cannot stop the vehicle when the gripping ability of the tires has
been exceeded. Do not use the system when stopped on a slippery road.
NOTICE
■When parking the vehicle
The brake hold system is not designed for use when parking the vehicle for
a long period of time. Turning the power switch off while the s ystem is hold-
ing the brake may release the brake, which would cause the vehi cle to
move. When operating the power switch, depress the brake pedal, shift the
shift lever to P and set the parking brake.

WARNING
■Emergency steering assist (for region A)
● As emergency steering assist operation will be canceled when the system
determines that lane departure prevention function has been com pleted.
● Emergency steering assist may not operate or may be cancel in the follow-
ing cases as the system may determine the driver is taking acti ons.
• If the accelerator pedal is being depressed strongly, the stee ring wheel
is being operated sharply, the brake pedal is being depressed o r the
turn signal lever is being operated. In this case, the system m ay deter-
mine that the driver is taking evasive action and the emergency steering
assist may not operate.
• In some situations, while the emergency steering assist is ope rating,
operation of the function may be canceled if the accelerator pe dal is
depressed strongly, the steering wheel is operated sharply or t he brake
pedal is being depressed and the system determines that the dri ver is
taking evasive action.
• When the emergency steering assist is operating, if the steeri ng wheel
is held firmly or is operated in the opposite direction to that which the
system is generating torque, the function may be canceled.
■ When to disable the pre-collision system
In the following situations, disable the system, as it may not operate prop-
erly, possibly leading to an accident resulting in death or ser ious injury:
● When the vehicle is being towed
● When your vehicle is towing another vehicle
● When transporting the vehicle via truck, boat, train or similar means of
transportation
● When the vehicle is raised on a lift with the hybrid system on and the tires
are allowed to rotate freely
● When inspecting the vehicle using a drum tester such as a chassis dyna-
mometer or speedometer tester, or when using an on vehicle whee l bal-
ancer
● When a strong impact is applied to the front bumper or front grille, due to
an accident or other reasons
● If the vehicle cannot be driven in a stable manner, such as when the vehi-
cle has been in an accident or is malfunctioning
● When the vehicle is driven in a sporty manner or off-road
● When the tires are not properly inflated

■Enabling/disabling the pre-collision system
The pre-collision system can be enabled/disabled on (P. 785)
of the multi-information display.
The system is automatically enabled each time the power switch is
turned to ON mode.
If the system is disabled, the
PCS warning light will turn on
and a message will be dis-
played on the multi-information
display.
WARNING
● When the tires are very worn
● When tires of a size other than specified are installed
● When tire chains are installed
● When a compact spare tire or an emergency tire puncture repair kit is used
● If equipment (snow plow, etc.) that may obstruct the radar sensor or front
camera is temporarily installed to the vehicle
