4-5. Using the driving support systems
Driving
■Automatic system cancelation of
emergency brake signal
The emergency brake signal will be
canceled in any of the following situa-
tions:
●The emergency flashers are turned
on.
●The system judges from the vehicle
deceleration that is not a sudden brak- ing operation
■Secondary Collision Brake operat-
ing conditions (if equipped)
The system operates when the SRS airbag sensor detects a collision while
the vehicle is in motion.
However, the system does not operate in any of the following situations.
●The vehicle speed is below 10 km/h (6 mph)
●Components are damaged
■Secondary Collision Brake auto-matic cancellation (if equipped)
The system is automati cally canceled in
any of the following situations.
●The vehicle speed drops below
approximately 10 km/h (6 mph)
●A certain amount of time elapses dur-
ing operation
●The accelerator pedal is depressed a
large amount
WA R N I N G
■The ABS does not operate effec- tively when
●The limits of tire gripping perfor-
mance have been exceeded (such as excessively worn tires on a snow
covered road).
●The vehicle hydroplanes while driv-
ing at high speed on wet or slick
roads.
■Stopping distance when the ABS is operating may exceed that of
normal conditions
The ABS is not designed to shorten the vehicle’s stopping distance.
Always maintain a safe distance from
the vehicle in front of you, especially in the following situations:
●When driving on dirt, gravel or snow-covered roads
●When driving with tire chains
●When driving over bumps in the
road
●When driving over roads with pot-
holes or uneven surfaces
■TRC/VSC may not operate effec-
tively when
Directional control and power may not
be achievable while driving on slip-
pery road surfaces, even if the TRC/VSC system is operating. Drive
the vehicle carefu lly in conditions
where stability and power may be lost.
■Active Cornering Assist does not operate effectively when
●Do not overly rely on Active Corner-
ing Assist. Active Cornering Assist may not operate effectively when
accelerating down slopes or driving
on slippery road surfaces.
●When Active Cornering Assist fre-
quently operates, Active Cornering Assist may temporarily stop operat-
ing to ensure proper operation of
the brakes, TRC and VSC.
■Hill-start assist control does not
operate effectively when
●Do not overly rely on hill-start assist control. Hill-start assist control may
not operate effectively on steep
inclines and roads covered with ice.

Maintenance and care
off.
●Wipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth
to remove any remaining moisture.
●To remove oily deposits, use alcohol
wet wipes or a similar product.
WA R N I N G
■When washing the vehicle
Do not apply water to the inside of the engine compartment. Doing so may
cause the electrical components, etc.
to catch fire.
■When cleaning the windshield
(vehicles with rain-sensing wind- shield wipers)
Set the wiper switch to off. If the wiper
switch is in “AUTO”, the wipers may operate unexpectedly in the following
situations, and may result in hands
being caught or other serious injuries and cause damage to the wiper
blades.
Off
AUTO
●When the upper part of the wind-
shield where the raindrop sensor is located is touched by hand
●When a wet rag or similar is held close to the raindrop sensor
●If something bumps against the windshield
●If you directly touch the raindrop sensor body or if something bumps
into the raindrop sensor
■Precautions regarding the exhaust pipe
Exhaust gasses cause the exhaust
pipe to become quite hot. When washing the vehicle, be careful
not to touch the pipe until it has
cooled sufficiently, as touching a hot exhaust pipe can cause burns.
■Precaution regarding the rear bumper with Blind Spot Monitor
(if equipped)
If the paint of the rear bumper is chipped or scratche d, the system may
malfunction. If this occurs, consult
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli-
able repairer.
NOTICE
■To prevent paint deterioration
and corrosion on the body and components (aluminum wheels,
etc.)
●Wash the vehicle immediately in the following cases:
• After driving near the sea coast
• After driving on salted roads
• If coal tar or tree sap is present on the paint surface
• If dead insects, in sect droppings or bird droppings are present on the
paint surface
• After driving in an area contami-
nated with soot, oily smoke, mine
dust, iron powder or chemical sub- stances
• If the vehicle becomes heavily soiled with dust or mud
• If liquids such as benzene and gas- oline are spilled on the paint sur-
face
●If the paint is chipped or scratched,
have it repaired immediately.

■Parking brake indicator
■Brake hold operated indicator
■Warning buzzer
In some cases, the buzzer may not be
heard due to being in a noisy location or audio sound.
■Front passenger detection sensor,
seat belt reminder and warning
buzzer
●If luggage is placed on the front pas-
senger seat, the front passenger detection sensor may cause the warn-
ing light to flash and the warning
buzzer to sound even if a passenger
is not sitting in the seat.
●If a cushion is placed on the seat, the
sensor may not detect a passenger, and the warning light may not operate
properly.
■If the malfunction indicator lamp
comes on while driving
The malfunction indicator lamp will
come on if the fuel tank becomes com-
pletely empty. If the fuel tank is empty, refuel the vehicle immediately. The mal-
function indicator lamp will go off after
several trips.
If the malfunction indicator lamp does
not go off, contact any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer as soon as possi-
ble.
■Electric power steering system
warning light (warning buzzer)
When the battery charge becomes
insufficient or the voltage temporarily
drops, the electric power steering sys- tem warning light may come on and the
warning buzzer may sound.
■When the tire pressure warning
light comes on
Inspect the tires to check if a tire is
punctured.
If a tire is punctured: P.482, 498
If none of the tires are punctured:
Turn the engine switch off then turn it to
ON. Check if the tire pressure warning light comes on or blinks.
If the tire pressure warning light blinks
for approximately 1 minute then stays on
There may be a malfunction in the tire pressure warning system. Have the
vehicle inspected by any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer immedi-
ately.

■When using the full-size spare
tire
●Replace the full-size spare tire with a standard tire as soon as possible.
●Avoid sudden acceleration, abrupt steering, sudden braking and shift-
ing operations that cause sudden
engine braking.
■When using the compact spare
tire
●Remember that the compact spare tire provided is specifically
designed for use with your vehicle.
Do not use your compact spare tire on another vehicle.
●Do not use more than one compact spare tires simultaneously.
●Replace the compact spare tire with a standard tire as soon as possible.
●Avoid sudden acceleration, abrupt steering, sudden braking and shift-
ing operations that cause sudden
engine braking.
■When the compact spare tire is

rectly detected, an d the following sys-
tems may not operate correctly:
• ABS & Brake assist
• VSC
•TRC
• Automatic High Beam (if equipped)

pact spare tire
Do not drive at speeds in excess of 80 km/h (50 mph) when a compact spare
tire is installed on the vehicle.
The compact spare tire is not
designed for driving at high speeds.
Failure to observe this precaution may lead to an accident causing
death or serious injury.
■After using the tools and jack
Before driving, make sure all the tools
