High- Low beamsÐFor high beams, turn
the headlights on and push the lever away
from you (position 1). Pull the lever to-
ward you (position 2) for low beams.
The headlight high beam indicator light
(blue light) on the instrument panel will
tell you that the high beams are on.
Flashing the high beam headlights
(position 3)ÐPull the lever all the way
back. The high beam headlights turn off
when you release the lever.
You can flash the high beam headlights
with the knob turned to OFFº.TURN SIGNALS
To signal a turn, push the headlight/
turn signal lever up or down to position
1.
The key must be in the ONº position.
The lever automatically returns after you
make a turn, but you may have to return
it by hand after you change lanes.
To signal a lane change, move the lever
up or down to the pressure point (position
2) and hold it.
If the turn signal indicator lights (green
lights) on the instrument panel flash faster
than normal, a front or rear turn signal
bulb is burned out. See Replacing light
bulbsº on page 400 in Section 7- 3.HEADLIGHTS
To turn on the following lights: Twist
the headlight/turn signal lever knob.
Position 1ÐParking, tail, license plate,
side marker and instrument panel lights
Position 2ÐHeadlights and all of the
above
The lights automatically turn off when the
driver 's door is opened with the ignition
turned off. To turn them on again, turn the
key to the ONº position or actuate the
headlight switch. If you are going to park
for over one week, make sure the head-
light switch is off.

NOTICE
To prevent the battery from being dis-
charged, do not leave the lights on
for a long period when the engine is
not running.
Daytime running light system
(on some models)
The headlights turn on at reduced intensi-
ty when the parking brake is released with
the engine started, even with the light
switch in the OFFº position. They will not
go off until the ignition switch is turned
off.
To turn on the other exterior lights and
instrument panel lights, twist the knob to
position 1.
Twist the knob to position 2 to turn the
headlights to full intensity for driving at
night.
High- Low beamsÐFor high beams, turn
the headlights on and push the lever away
from you (position 1). Pull the lever to-
ward you (position 2) for low beams.

To turn on the front fog lights, twist
the band of the headlight and turn sig-
nal switch lever. They will come on
only when the headlights are on low
beam.To turn on the interior light, slide the
switch.
The interior light switch has the following
positions:
ONºÐKeeps the light on all the time.
OFFºÐTurns the light off.
DOORºÐ
Center: Turns the light on when any of the
side doors and back door are opened.
Rear: Turns the light on when the back
door is opened.ILLUMINATED ENTRY SYSTEM
(center interior light)
When the switch is in the DOORº posi-
tion and any of the side doors and back
door is opened, the light will come on.
After all the side doors and back door are
closed, the light remains on for about 15
seconds before fading out.
However, in the following cases, the light
fades out immediately:

All the side doors and back door are
closed when the ignition key is in
ACCº or ONº position.

The ignition key is turned to ACCº or
ONº after all the side doors and back
door are closed.

All the side doors and back door are
locked when the light is still on.
When all the side doors and back door
are unlocked using either the key or the
wireless remote control transmitter simul-
taneously, the light will come on and re-
main on for about 15 seconds before fad-
ing out.

Avoid using cassettes with a total play-
ing time longer than 100 minutes (50
minutes per side). The tape used in
these cassettes is thin and could get
stuck or tangled in the cassette player.
CARING FOR YOUR COMPACT DISC
PLAYER, DVD PLAYER AND DISCS
Extremely high temperatures can keep
your compact disc player and DVD
player from working. On hot days, use
the air conditioning to cool the vehicle
interior before you use the players.
Bumpy roads or other vibrations may
make your compact disc player and
DVD player skip.
If moisture gets into your compact disc
player and DVD player, the players
may not play even though they appear
to be working. Remove the disc from
the player and wait until it dries.
CAUTION
Compact disc players and DVD play-
ers use an invisible laser beam which
could cause hazardous radiation ex-
posure if directed outside the unit. Be
sure to operate the players correctly.

may not be playable on your compact
disc player.

Headlight with Daytime Running Light
1. Daytime Running Light Operation
The headlight is turned on when all the following conditions are satisfied
*When the ignition switch is ON position
*When the generator is generating electricity
*When the light control SW is OFF position
*When the parking brake SW is OFF position
2. Headlight Operation
*The headlight comes on at the LOW position when the dimmer SW is turned to the low beam position with the light control
SW being HEAD position.
*If the dimmer SW is turned to the HIGH position with the light control SW being HEAD position, the headlight comes on at
the high beam position. Moreover, the high beam indicator light appears on the combination meter.
*Regardless of the light control SW positions, the headlight comes on at the low beam position when the dimmer SW is
turned to FLASH position. Moreover, the high beam indicator light appears on the combination meter.

OPERATION CHECK
1. ILLUMINATED ENTRY SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK
(a) Illuminated entry system controls the following lamps:

Ignition key cylinder lamp

Interior lamp (Room lamp assy No.1)

Personal lamp (Overhead J/B)
(b) Check that the lamps come on after:
(1) Unlocking any door that was closed and locked with the ignition switch off.
(c) Check that the lamps fade out after:
(1) Leaving the doors unlocked for 15 seconds
(2) Turning the ignition switch to the ACC or ON position
(3) Locking all the doors
(d) Check that the lamps stay ON for at least 15 seconds after opening any of the doors, then fade out
again after 15 seconds.
(e) Check that the lamps fade out after:
(1) Leaving the doors unlocked for 15 seconds
(2) Locking all the doors
(f) Check that the lamps stay ON for at least 15 seconds after opening any of the doors, then fade out
again in 15 seconds after closing all the doors.
(g) Check that the lamps come on when opening any of the doors or turning the ignition switch off from
the ACC or ON position.
2. LIGHT AUTO TURN OFF OPERATION CHECK
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and switch the headlamps into the TAIL or HEAD position.
(b) Turn the ignition switch off and open the driver's door, and check that the headlamps go off immediate-
ly.
(c) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and switch the headlamps into the AUTO position.
(d) Turn the ignition switch off and open the driver's door when operating the automatic light control sys-
tem, and check that the headlamps go off immediately.
3. AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL OPERATION CHECK
HINT:
Perform the operation check at a location with bright surroundings.
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(b) Turn the headlamp dimmer switch to the AUTO position.
(c) Cover the automatic light control sensor and check that the taillamp and headlamp in order.
(d) Uncover the automatic light control sensor and check that the headlamp and taillamp go off in order.
4. DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT OPERATION CHECK
(a) Check that the high beams come on when the headlamp switch is off with the engine running and park-
ing brake released.
(b) Check that the high beams go off when turning the headlamp dimmer switch into the TAIL or HEAD
(LOW) position under the condition as shown in (a).
(c) Check that the high beams go off when turning the ignition switch off under the condition as shown
in (a).
