*3: Rear passenger’s seat belt reminders:
The rear passenger’s seat belt reminder sounds to alert the rear passenger
that his or her seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer sounds for 30 seconds
after the vehicle has reached a speed of at least 20 km/h (12 mph). Then, if
the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer will sound in a different tone for
90 more seconds.
*4: Left-hand drive vehicles with audio system
*5: Right-hand drive vehicles with audio system
*6: Vehicles without audio system
Follow the correction procedures. (vehicles with smart entry & start system)
After taking the specified steps to correct the suspected problem,
check that the warning light turns off.

Emergency start function (vehicles with smart entry & start system)
When the engine does not start, the following steps can be used as
an interim measure to start the engine if the “ENGINE START STOP”
switch is functioning normally.
Set the parking brake.
Put the shift lever in P (Multidrive) or N (manual transmission).
Set the “ENGINE START STOP” switch to the ACCESSORY
mode.
Vehicles with a Multidrive: Press and hold the “ENGINE
START STOP” switch for about 15 seconds while depressing
the brake pedal firmly.
Vehicles with a manual transmission: Press and hold the
“ENGINE START STOP” switch for about 15 seconds while
depressing the brake pedal firmly and also depressing the
clutch pedal.
Even if the engine can be started using the above steps, the system
may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle checked by any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped pro-
fessional.
The starter motor does not turn over, the interior lights and
headlights do not turn on, or the horn does not sound.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
One or both of the battery terminals may be disconnected.
The battery may be discharged. (P. 430)
There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system (vehi-
cles with smart entry & start system).
Contact any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped professional, if the problem cannot be
repaired, or if repair procedures are unknown.

Starting the engine when the battery is discharged (vehicles with a
Multidrive)
The engine cannot be started by push-starting.
Avoiding a discharged battery
Turn off the headlights and the audio system while the engine is turned
off.
Turn off any unnecessary electrical components when the vehicle is run-
ning at a low speed for an extended period, such as in heavy traffic, etc.
When the vehicle battery is removed or discharged
Any data stored in the computer will be erased. When the vehicle battery
is discharged, have the vehicle checked at any authorized Toyota dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
Vehicles with alarm: Make sure that the key is not inside the vehicle
when recharging or replacing the battery. The key may be locked in the
vehicle if the alarm is activated. (P. 120)
Reminders when the vehicle battery is discharged (vehicles with smart
entry & start system)
When the doors are attempted to be unlocked via the smart entry & start
system just after the vehicle battery has been discharged, it may fail. If
the doors cannot be unlocked, unlock the doors using a wireless remote
controller or a mechanical key.
The first engine start after the battery has been discharged may fail.
However, the engine should start after the second attempt, so it is not a
malfunction.
Once the engine starts, have the vehicle checked at any autho-
rized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional, as soon as possible.

it is between the FULL and LOW

Add coolant if necessary.
Water can be used in an emer-
gency if coolant is unavailable.
Start the engine and turn the air conditioning system on to
check that the radiator cooling fan operates and to check for
coolant leaks from the radiator or hoses.
The fan operates when the air conditioning system is turned on
immediately after a cold start. Confirm that the fan is operating by
checking the fan sound and air flow. If it is difficult to check these,
turn the air conditioning system on and off repeatedly.
(The fan may not operate in freezing temperatures.)
If the fan is not operating:
Stop the engine immediately and contact any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
If the fan is operating:
Have the vehicle inspected at the nearest authorized Toy-
ota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
