Important information about your Toyota
Occupant restraint systems
Toyota encourages you and your family to take the time
to read Section 1−3 of this Owner’s Manual carefully. In
terms of helping you understand how you can receive
the maximum benefit of the occupant restraint systems
this vehicle provides, Section 1 −3 of this Owner’s Manu-
al is the most important section for you and your family
to read.
Section 1 −3 describes the function and operation con-
cerning seats, seat belts, SRS airbags and child re-
straint systems of this vehicle and some potential haz-
ards you should be aware of. These systems work to-
gether along with the overall structure of this vehicle in
order to provide occupant restraint in the event of a
crash. The effect of each system is enhanced when it is
used properly and together with other systems. No
single occupant restraint system can, by itself, provide
you or your family with the equal level of restraint
which these systems can provide when used together.
That is why it is important for you and your family to
understand the purpose and proper use of each of these
systems and how they relate to each other.
The purpose of all occupant restraint systems is to help
reduce the possibility of death or serious injury in the
event of a collision. None of these systems, either indi-
vidually or together, can ensure that there is no injury
in the event of collision. However, the more you know
about these systems and how to use them properly, the
greater your chances become of surviving an accident
without death or serious injury.
Seat belts provide the primary restraint to all occupants
of the vehicle, and every occupant of the vehicle should
wear seat belts properly at all times. Children should
always be secured in child restraint systems that are
appropriate for their age and size. SRS (Supplemental
Restraint System) airbags are, as their names imply,
designed to work with, and be supplemental to, seat
belts and are not substitutes for them. SRS airbags can
be very effective in reducing the risk of head and chest
injuries by preventing contact of the head and chest
with interior portions of the vehicle.

In order to be effective, the SRS airbags must deploy
with tremendous speed. The rapid deployment of the
SRS airbags makes the SRS airbags themselves poten-
tial sources of serious injury if an occupant is too close
to an airbag, or if an object or some part of his or her
body has been placed between the occupant and the
airbag at the time of deployment. This is just one exam-
ple of how the instructions in Section 1−3 of this Own-
er ’s Manual will help ensure proper use of the occupant
restraint systems, and increase the safety they can pro-
vide to you and your family in the event of an accident.
Toyota recommends you to read the provisions in Sec-
tion 1 −3 carefully and refer to them as needed during
your time of ownership of this vehicle.New vehicle warranty

For further information, please refer to the “Owner’s
Warranty Information Booklet” or “Owner ’s Manual Sup-
plement”.
Your responsibility for maintenance
It is the owner ’s responsibility to make sure the
specified maintenance is performed. Section 6 gives
details of these maintenance requirements. Also
included in Section 6 is general maintenance. For
scheduled maintenance information, place refer to the
“Scheduled Maintenance Guide” or “Owner ’s Manual
Supplement”.

4. Install the lid with the 2 screws.
5. Install the module into the key frameand secure the cover with the screw.
6. When pushing any switch on the wire- less key, make sure the indicator light
comes on.
NOTICE
Make sure the positive side and
negative side of the battery are
faced correctly.
 Do not replace the battery with wet
hands. Water may cause unexpected
rust.
 Do not touch or move any compo-
nents inside of the transmitter, or
it may interfere with proper opera-
tion.
 Be careful not to bend the electrode
of the battery insertion and that
dust or oils do not adhere to the
case.
 Take care not to lose the screws.
 Close the cover securely.
Power windows

The windows can be operated with the
switch on each side door.
The power windows work when the ignition
switch is in the “ON” position.
Key off operation: If both front doors are
closed, they work for 45 seconds even
after the ignition switch is turned off. They
stop working when either front door is
opened.
OPERATING THE DRIVER’S WINDOW
Use the switch on the driver’s door.
Normal operation: The window moves as
long as you hold the switch.
To open: Lightly push down the switch.
To close: Lightly pull up the switch.

Automatic operation: Push the switch
completely down or pull it completely up,
and then release it. The window will fully
open or close. To stop the window part-
way, lightly move the switch in the oppo-
site direction and then release it.
Jam protection function: If something
gets caught between the window and win-
dow frame during automatic closing opera-
tion or key off closing operation, the win-
dow stops and opens halfway.
If the window receives a strong impact,
this function may work even if nothing is
caught.

OPERATING THE PASSENGERS’ WIN-
DOWS
Use the switch on each passenger ’s
door or the switches on the driver ’s
door that control each passenger ’s win-
dow.
Normal operation: The window moves as
long as you hold the switch.
To open: Lightly push down the switch.
To close: Lightly pull up the switch.
If you push in the window lock switch on
the driver ’s door, the passengers’ windows
cannot be operated.
The indicator lights on the switch tell you
which of the switches can be operated.

CAUTION
To avoid serious personal injury, you
must do the following.
Before you close the power win-
dows, always make sure there is
nobody around the power win-
dows. You must also make sure
the heads, hands and other parts
of the bodies of all occupants
are kept completely inside the
vehicle. If someone’s neck, head
or hands get caught in a closing
window, it could result in a seri-
ous injury. When anyone closes
the power windows, make sure
he or she operates the windows
safely.
When small children are in the
vehicle, never let them use the
power window switches without
supervision. Use the window
lock switch to prevent them from
making unexpected use of the
switches.
Be sure to remove the ignition
key when you leave your vehicle.
Never leave anyone (particularly
a small child) alone in your ve-
hicle, especially with the ignition
key still inserted. Otherwise, he
or she could use the power win-
dow switches and get trapped in
a window. Unattended person
(particularly a small child) can
be involved in a serious acci-
dent.
Never try jamming any part of your
body in a window to activate the
jam protection function intention-
ally.
The jam protection function may
not work if something gets caught
just before the window is fully
closed.

Back door
LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WITH KEY
Insert the key into the key hole and
turn it.
To lock: Turn the key clockwise.
To unlock: Turn the key counterclockwise.
All the doors lock and unlock simulta-
neously with back door.
Operating the power door lock switch si-
multaneously locks or unlocks all the side
doors and the back door. (See “Side
doors” on page 13.)
To open the back door, pull the lock re-
lease lever.Pull the handle toward you and pull
down the lower side of the back door.
When closing the back door, make sure
it is fully closed.
See “Cargo and luggage” on page 229 for
precautions when loading luggage.LOCKING AND UNLOCKING FROM IN-
SIDE
To lock: Push the knob.
To unlock: Pull the knob.
Operating the power door lock switch si-
multaneously locks or unlocks all the side
doors and the back door. (See “Side
doors” on page 13.)

Push the handle and push down the
lower side of the back door.
When closing the back door, make sure
it is fully closed.
See “Cargo and luggage” on page 229 for
precautions when loading luggage.
CAUTION
Keep the back door closed while
driving. This not only keeps the
luggage from being thrown out
but also prevents exhaust gases
from entering the vehicle.
If the open back door hides the
stop and tail lights, rear turn sig-
nal lights or rear retro reflectors
while you are parked, other road
users must be warned of the
presence of your vehicle by a
warning triangle or other device.
BACK DOOR CHILDPROTECTOR
Move the lock lever to the “LOCK”
position as shown on the label.
This feature allows you to lock a back
door so it can be opened from the outside
only, not from inside. We recommend us-
ing this feature whenever small children
are in the vehicle.

Electric moon roof
Sliding operation
Tilting operation
To operate the moon roof, use the
switches beside the personal light.
The moon roof works when the ignition
switch is in the “ON” position. However,
if both front doors are closed, it works for
45 seconds even after the ignition switch
is turned off. It stops working when either
of the front doors is opened.
Sun shade operation—
The sun shade can be opened or closed
by hand.
Sliding operation—
To open: Push the switch on the rear
side.
The roof will open and stop partway 30
mm (1.2 in.) from the fully opened posi-
tion. When you push the switch again, the
moon roof will open fully. To stop the roof
partway, push the same switch or tilt
switch while the roof is moving.
As driving with the moon roof opened fully
will cause wind throbs, we recommend
you to drive with the moon roof partway
30 mm (1.2 in.) from the fully opened
position.
The sun shade will be opened together
with the roof.
To close: Push the switch on the front
side.The roof will fully close. To stop the roof
partway, push the same switch or tilt
switch.
Tilting operation—
To tilt up: Push the switch on the “UP”
side.
The roof will tilt up fully. To stop the roof
partway, push the same switch or slide
switch.
To lower: Push the switch on the opposite
side of the “UP” side.
The roof will fully close. To stop the roof
partway, push the same switch or slide
switch.
Jam protection function (closing opera-
tion only):
If something gets caught be-
tween the moon roof and frame during
closing operation, the moon roof stops and
opens halfway.
If an impact is given to the moon roof,
this function may work without anything
caught.
