2445-5. Using the driving support systems
MIRAI_OM_USA_OM62023U
WARNING
■Cautions regarding the assist contents of the system
By means of alarms and brake control, the pre-collision system is intended
to assist the driver in avoiding collisions through the process of LOOK-
JUDGE-ACT. There are limits to the degree of assistance the system can
provide, so please keep in mind the following important points.
● Assisting the driver in watching the road
The pre-collision system is only able to detect obstacles directly in front of
the vehicle, and only within a limited range. It is not a mechanism that
allows careless or inattentive driving, and it is not a system that can assist
the driver in low-visibility conditions. It is still necessary for the driver to
pay close attention to the vehicle’s surroundings.
● Assisting the driver in making correct judgement
When attempting to estimate the possibility of a collision, the only data
available to the pre-collision system is that from obstacles it has detected
directly in front of the vehicle. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary for the
driver to remain vigilant and to determine whether or not there is a possi-
bility of collision in any given situation.
● Assisting the driver in taking action
The pre-collision system’s braking assist feature is designed to help
reduce the severity of a collision, and so only acts when the system has
judged that a collision is unavoidable. This system is not capable of auto-
matically avoiding a collision or bringing the vehicle to a stop safely with-
out appropriate operations performed by the driver. For this reason, when
encountering a dangerous situation the driver must take direct and imme-
diate action in order to ensure the safety of all involved.

Checking fluid level
The brake fluid level should be
between the “MAX” and “MIN”
lines on the tank.
“MAX”
“MIN”
■Adding fluid
Make sure to check the fluid type and prepare the necessary item.
■Brake fluid can absorb moisture from the air
Excess moisture in the brake fluid can cause a dangerous loss of braking effi-
ciency. Use only newly opened brake fluid.
Brake fluid
Fluid typeFMVSS No.116 DOT 3 or SAE J1703 brake fluid
ItemClean funnel
WARNING
■When filling the reservoir
Take care as brake fluid can harm your hands and eyes and damage
painted surfaces.
If fluid gets on your hands or in your eyes, flush the affected area with clean
water immediately.
If you still experience discomfort, see a doctor.
NOTICE
■If the fluid level is low or high
It is normal for the brake fluid level to go down slightly as the brake pads
wear out or when the fluid level in the accumulator is high.
If the reservoir needs frequent refilling, there may be a serious problem.

SRS warning lightIndicates a malfunction in:
• The SRS airbag system;
• The front passenger occupant classification system; or
• The seat belt pretensioner system
→ Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
ABS warning light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The ABS; or
• The brake assist system
→ Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
(Red/Yellow)
Electric power steering system warning light (warning
buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in the EPS (Electric Power Steer-
ing) system
→ Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
(Flashes)
PCS warning light
Indicates a malfunction in the pre-collision system
The warning light will operate as follows, even when the
system is not malfunctioning:
• The light will come on when the TRAC and VSC sys-tems are turned off. ( →P. 234)
• The light will come on when the pre-collision system is
turned off. (→P. 239)
• The light will flash when the system cannot temporarily be used. ( →P. 242)
→ Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.

Warning buzzer
In some cases, the buzzer may not be heard due to being in a noisy location
or audio sound.
WARNING
■If both the ABS and the brake system warning lights remain on
Stop your vehicle in a safe place immediately and contact your Toyota
dealer. The vehicle will become extremely unstable during braking, and the
ABS system may fail, which could cause an accident resulting in death or
serious injury.
■ When the electric power steering system warning light comes on
When the light comes on yellow, the assist to the power steering is
restricted. When the light comes on red, the assist to the power steering is
lost and handling operations of the steering wheel become extremely
heavy. When steering wheel operations are heavier than usual, grip the
steering wheel firmly and operate it using more force than usual.
■
If the tire pressure warning light comes on
Handling method ( →P. 373)
Be sure to observe the following precautions. Failure to do so could
cause a loss of vehicle control and result in death or serious injury.
●Stop your vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible. Adjust the tire
inflation pressure immediately.
●If the tire pressure warning light co mes on even after tire inflation pres-
sure adjustment, it is probable that you have a flat tire. Check the tires.
If a tire is flat, repair the flat tire by using emergency tire puncture
repair kit.
●Avoid abrupt maneuvering and braking. If the vehicle tires deteriorate,
you could lose control of the steering wheel or the brakes.
■If a blowout or sudden air leakage should occur
The tire pressure warning system may not activate immediately.

When trouble arises
*: A buzzer sounds the first time a message is shown on the multi-informa-tion display.
■ System warning lights
The master warning light does not come on or flash in the following cases.
Instead, a separate system warning light will come on along with a message
shown on the multi-information display.
●Malfunction of the ABS
The ABS warning light comes on. ( →P. 370)
● Malfunction of the charging system
The charging system warning light comes on. ( →P. 369)
■ If “High FC Temperature Re duced Power” is displayed
Lower the speed while check the safety, and run the vehicle like this for
several minutes.
If the message goes off, the vehicle can be driven as is, since it temporarily
overheated.
This message may be displayed when driving under severe operating con-
ditions.
(For example, when driving up a long steep hill.)
■ If “Maintenance Required for Hybr id Battery Cooling Parts at Your
Dealer” is displayed
The filter may be clogged, or the air intake vent or duct may be blocked. Have
the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer.
■ If “Shift to P Before Exiting Vehicle” is displayed
Message is displayed when the driver’s door is opened without turning the
power switch to off with the shift position in any position other than P.
Shift the shift position to P.
■ If “Shift is in N Release Accelerat or Before Shifting” is displayed
Message is displayed when the accelerator pedal has been depressed and
the shift position is in N. Release the accelerator pedal and shift the shift posi-
tion to D or R.
