4-3. Operating the lights and wipers
■Temporarily lowering sensor sensitivity
The sensitivity of the sensor can be temporarily lowered.
Turn the power switch off while the following conditions are me t.
• The headlight switch is in the or position.
• The headlight switch lever is in high beam position.
• Automatic High Beam switch is on.
Turn the power switch to ON mode.
Within 60 seconds after step , repeat pulling the headlight swi tch lever to
the original position then pushing it to the high beam position quickly 10
times, then leave the lever in high beam position.
If the sensitivity is changed, the Automatic High Beam indicato r is turn on
and off 3 times.
Automatic High Beam (headlights) may turn on even the vehicle i s stopped.
■ If “Headlight System Malfunction Visit Your Dealer” is displaye d on the
multi-information display
The system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by your Toy-
ota dealer.

The Toyota Safety Sense P consists of the following drive assis t
systems and contributes to a safe and comfortable driving expe-
rience:
WARNING
■ Toyota Safety Sense P
The Toyota Safety Sense P is designed to operate under the assumption
that the driver will drive safely, and is designed to help reduce the impact to
the occupants and the vehicle in the case of a collision or assist the driver in
normal driving conditions.
As there is a limit to the degree of recognition accuracy and control perfor-
mance that this system can provide, do not overly rely on this system. The
driver is always responsible for paying attention to the vehicl e’s surround-
ings and driving safely.

If “Shift to Before Exiting Vehicle” is shown
Message is displayed when the driver’s door is opened without t urning the
power switch to off with the shift position in any position oth er than P.
Shift the shift position to P.
■ If “Shift is in Release Accelerat or Before Shifting” is shown
Message is displayed when the accelerator pedal has been depressed and
the shift position is in N.
Release the accelerator pedal and shift the shift position to D or R.
■ If “Depress Brake When Vehicle is Stopped. Hybrid System may Ov er-
heat.” is shown
The message may be shown when the accelerator pedal is depresse d to hold
the vehicle while the vehicle is stopped on an uphill, etc.
The hybrid system may overheat. Release the accelerator pedal a nd depress
the brake pedal.
■ If “Auto Power OFF to Conserve Battery” is shown
The power switch has been turned off by the automatic power off function.
When starting the hybrid system next time, operate the hybrid s ystem for
approximately 5 minutes to recharge the 12-volt battery.
■ If “Engine Oil Level Low Add or Replace” is displayed
The engine oil level may be low. Check the level of the engine oil, and add
engine oil if necessary. This message may be displayed if the vehicle is
stopped on a slope. Move the vehicle to a level surface and che ck if the mes-
sage disappears.
■ If “Accelerator and Brake Pedals D epressed Simultaneously” is shown
The accelerator and brake pedals are being depressed simultaneo usly.
( P. 225)
Release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal.
■ If “Front Camera Unavailable See Owner’s Manual” or “Front Came ra
Unavailable” is displayed. *
The following systems may be suspended until the problem shown in the
message is resolved. ( P. 303, 580)

When trouble arises
WARNING
■When using the compact spare tire (if equipped)
●Remember that the spare tire provided is specifically designed for use
with your vehicle. Do not use yo ur spare tire on another vehicle.
●Do not use more than one compact spare tire simultaneously.
●Replace the spare tire with a st andard tire as soon as possible .
●Avoid sudden acceleration, abrupt steering, sudden braking and shift-
ing operations that cause sudden engine braking.
■When the compact spare tire is attached (if equipped)
The vehicle speed may not be co rrectly detected, and the following sys-
tems may not operate correctly:
Also, not only can the following system not be utilized fully, but it may
even negatively affect the drive-train components:

■Speed limit when using the co mpact spare tire (if equipped)
Do not drive at speeds in excess of 50 mph (80 km/h) when a com pact
spare tire is installed on the vehicle.
The compact spare tire is not designed for driving at high spee ds. Fail-
ure to observe this precaution may lead to an accident causing death or
serious injury.
■After using the tools and jack
Before driving, make sure all t he tools and jack are securely i n place in
their storage location to reduce the possibility of personal in jury during a
collision or sudden braking.
