ing options. Therefore, you may find some explanations for equipment not
installed on your vehicle.
All specifications provided in this manual are current at the time of printing.
However, because of the Toyota policy of continual product improvement, we
reserve the right to make changes at any time without notice.
Depending on specifications, the vehicle shown in the illustrations may differ
from your vehicle in terms of equipment.
Approximately five hours after the hybrid system is turned off, you may hear
sound coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of
a fuel evaporation leakage check and, it does not indicate a malfunction.
A wide variety of non-genuine spare parts and accessories for Toyota vehi-
cles are currently available on the market. You should know that Toyota does
not warrant these products and is not responsible for their performance,
repair, or replacement, or for any damage they may cause to, or adverse
effect they may have on, your Toyota vehicle.
This vehicle should not be modified with non-genuine Toyota products. Modi-
fication with non-genuine Toyota products could affect its performance, safety
or durability, and may even violate governmental regulations. In addition,
damage or performance problems resulting from the modification may not be
covered under warranty.

Charging the hybrid battery (traction battery)
As the gasoline engine charges the hybrid battery (traction battery), the bat-
tery does not need to be charged from an outside source. However, if the
vehicle is left parked for a long time the hybrid battery (traction battery) will
slowly discharge. For this reason, be sure to drive the vehicle at least once
every few months for at least 30 minutes or 10 miles (16 km). If the hybrid
battery (traction battery) becomes fully discharged and you are unable to start
the hybrid system, contact your Toyota dealer.

■ After the 12-volt battery has dischar ged or when the terminal has been
removed and installed during exchange, etc.
The gasoline engine may not stop even if the vehicle is being driven by the
hybrid battery (traction battery). If this continues for a few days, contact your
Toyota dealer.

● When the odometer is displayed: the average fuel consumption
since the hybrid system wa s started is displayed.
● When the trip meter is displayed: the average fuel consumption
since the trip meter was reset is displayed. The average fuel con-
sumption for trip mete r A and trip meter B is displayed separately.
When the trip meter is reset, average fuel consumption is also reset.

Odometer/trip meter
Each time the “TRIP” switch is pr
essed, the display changes as fol-
lows:
Odometer
Displays the total distance
that the vehicle has been
driven.
Trip meter
Displays the distance the
vehicle has been driven
since the meter was last
reset. The trip meters can be
split and used in 2 catego-
ries, A or B.
Pressing and holding the “TRIP” switch will reset the trip meter.

Each time the “DISP” switch is pressed, the menu screen changes.
When the desired menu screen is displayed, stop pressing the “DISP”
switch. The details screen will soon be displayed.
However, to display the “Settings & Screen Off” details screen, press
and hold the “DISP” switch after the “Settings & Screen Off” menu
screen is displayed.
“Energy Monitor”
Operating conditions of the hybrid system can be confirmed. ( →P. 1 11 )
“Drive Information”
Average speed, driving time, EV driving rate/EV driven distance, cruising
range and outside temperature (→P. 391) are displayed. (→P. 101)
“ECO Score”
Evaluates the level of Eco-friendly driving and displays the results.
(→P. 102)
“5min Consumption”*
Displays the average fuel consumption in intervals of 5 minutes. Current
fuel consumption is simultaneously displayed, allowing it to be compared
with previous fuel consumption rates. ( →P. 116)
“ECO Savings”
If the price of gasoline is input, the cost of the consumed fuel according to
the driven distance is displayed. If the fuel consumption comparison is set,
the difference between the input fuel consumption and your vehicle's
actual fuel consumption is expressed as an amount of money that was
possibly saved. (→P. 103)
“ECO Savings Record”*
Displays eco savings record. ( →P. 104)
“LDA” (Lane Departure Alert) (if equipped)
Select to display the operational status of the LDA. ( →P. 242)

If “Settings & Screen Off” is selected on the menu screen, the follow-
ing items can be set. Always perform this operation after stopping the
vehicle in a safe place. (Some it ems cannot be set while driving.)
Press the “DISP” switch on the
steering wheel to move the cursor.
To switch to the settings screen,

■Basic settings/Changing the clock shortcut
The date, time, clock mode (12 or 24 hour), touch tracer settings
and the displayed language can be changed.
● Pressing the “DISP” (forward) or “TRIP” (back) switch changes
the date.
● Press the “DISP” switch to sele ct hours or minutes. Pressing the
“TRIP” switch adjusts the hours or minutes.
● If set clock is sele cted, the screen will c hange to the clock set-
tings screen.

Eco savings
●Fuel cost and savings should be used as a guide only.
● Depending on refueling methods, driving conditions and environmental fac-
tors, the actual and displayed fuel costs may differ.
● In some cases, fuel cost and savings may not be linked to the eco score
evaluation.
■ When disconnecting and reconnect ing 12-volt battery terminals
The following information data will be reset:
● Clock
● Past record (aside from the top 3 results)
● Average fuel consumption
● Cruising range
● Average vehicle speed
● Driving time
● EV driving rate/EV driven distance
Additionally, some displays may return to their default settings.
■ Liquid crystal display
Small spots or light spots may appear on the display. This phenomenon is
characteristic of liquid crystal displays, and there is no problem continuing to
use the display.
WARNING
■Eco score
Eco score should be used as a guide only. Always drive safely in accor-
dance with road and traffic conditions.
■ The information display at low temperatures
Allow the interior of the vehicle to warm up before using the liquid crystal
information display. At extremely low temperatures, the display monitor may
respond slowly, and display changes may be delayed.
For example, there is a lag between the driver’s shifting and the new gear
number appearing on the display. This l ag could cause the driver to down-
shift again, causing rapid and excessive engine braking and possibly an
accident resulting in death or injury.
■ Cautions during setting up the display
As the hybrid system needs to be running during setting up the display,
ensure that the vehicle is parked in a place with adequate ventilation. In a
closed area such as a garage, exhaust gases including harmful carbon
monoxide (CO) may collect and enter the vehicle. This may lead to death or
a serious health hazard.

There are 2 menu items available for the fuel consumption screen.
After pressing the “DISP” switch, se lect one of the menu items below
and the system will change to the details screen.
The “5min Consumption”, “Past Re cord” and “ECO Savings Record”
( → P. 104) screens are set to off (initialized settings) at the time of
shipping. ( →P. 107)

■Switching the door unlock functi on (vehicles with a smart key system)
It is possible to set which doors the entry function unlocks using the wireless
remote control.
Turn the “POWER” switch off.
When the indicator light on the key surface is not on, press and hold
or for about 5 seconds while pressing and holding .
The setting changes each time an operation is performed, as shown below.
(When changing the setting continuously, release the buttons, wait for at least
5 seconds, and repeat step 2.)
■ Conditions affecting the operation of the smart key system or wireless
remote control
Vehicles without a smart key system
The wireless remote control function may not operate normally in the follow-
ing situations:
● When the wireless key battery is depleted
● Near a TV tower, electric power plant, gas station, radio station, large dis-
play, airport or other facility that generates strong radio waves or electrical
noise
● When carrying a portable radio, cellul ar phone or other wireless communi-
cation device
● When the wireless key is in contact with, or is covered by a metallic object
● When other wireless keys (that emits radio waves) are being used nearby
● If window tint with a metallic content or metallic objects are attached to the
rear window

Notes for locking the doors
●Touching the door lock sensor while wearing gloves may delay or prevent
lock operation. Remove the gloves and touch the lock sensor again.
● When the lock operation is performed using the lock sensor, recognition sig-
nals will be shown up to two consecutive times. After this, no recognition
signals will be given.
● If the electronic key is inside the vehicle and a door handle becomes wet
during a car wash, a buzzer will sound outside the vehicle. To turn off the
alarm, lock all the doors.
■ Notes for the unlocking function
●A sudden approach to the effective range or door handle may prevent the
doors from being unlocked. In this case, return the door handle to the origi-
nal position and check that the doors unlock before pulling the door handle
again.
● Gripping the door handle when wearing a glove may not unlock the door.
Remove the gloves and touch the sensor on the back of the handle again.
● If there is another electronic key in the detection area, it may take slightly
longer to unlock the doors after the door handle is gripped.
■ When the vehicle is not driven for extended periods
●To prevent theft of the vehicle, do not leave the electronic key within 6 ft. (2
m) of the vehicle.
● The smart key system can be deactivated in advance. Ask your Toyota
dealer for details.
■ To operate the smar t key system properly
Make sure to carry the electronic key when operating the system. Do not get
the electronic key too close to the vehicle when operating the system from the
outside of the vehicle.
Depending on the position and holding condition of the electronic key, the key
may not be detected correctly and the system may not operate properly. (The
alarm may go off accidentally, or the door lock prevention function may not
operate.)
■ If the smart key system do es not operate properly
● Locking and unlocking the doors: Use the mechanical key. ( →P. 516)
● Starting the hybrid system: → P. 516
■ If the smart key system has been deactivated in a customized setting
●Locking and unlocking the doors: Use the wireless remote control or
