FEATURES & OPERATIONS
The Hybrid Synergy Drive System utilizes a computer-controlled gasoline \
engine
and electric motor to provide the most efficient combination of power fo\
r the
vehicle. To conserve energy, when the brakes are applied the braking for\
ce
generates electricity which is then sent to the traction battery. In add\
ition, the
engine shuts off when the vehicle is stopped. The benefits are better fu\
el economy,
reduced vehicle emissions and improved performance.
NOTE: Fuel consumption and energy information of the Hybrid System are shown on the multi-information display or the Display Audio System.
-Ensure tire pressures are maintained at levels specified in the Owner’\
s Manual.
-When possible, link trips to reduce engine cold starts.
-Avoid driving at speeds that are higher than necessary, especially on t\
he highway.
-When possible, avoid sudden stops to maximize regenerative braking ener\
gy.
-Minimize use of the Air Conditioning.
(1) Put the shift lever in Park.
(2) Vehicles with Smart Key system:
Depress the brake pedal, and press the “POWER” switch briefly and \
firmly.
Vehicles without Smart Key system:
Depress the brake pedal, and turn the key to the “START” position.\
(3) The “READY” light will blink. After a few seconds, when the \
light remains
steady and a beep sounds, you may begin driving.

Eco Mode helps achieve low fuel consumption during trips that involve fr\

accelerating and braking.
Refer to the Owner’s Manual for more details.
EV Drive Mode allows the electric motor (traction motor), powered by t\
he hybrid
battery (traction battery), to be used to drive the vehicle under cert\
ain driving
conditions.

Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)
HAC helps prevent rolling backwards on an incline. To engage, push the b\
rake
pedal farther down while at a complete stop until a beep sounds and slip\
indicator
illuminates. HAC holds for approximately two seconds after releasing bra\
ke pedal.
Refer to the Owner’s Manual for more details.

Rear view monitor system
The rear view monitor system displays an image of the view from the bump\
er of
the rear area of the vehicle. The camera for the rear view monitor syste\
m is located
above the license plate.
To adjust the image on the rear view monitor screen, press the “SETUP\
” button
and select “Display” on the “Setup” screen. Select “Came\
ra” to adjust the screen
contrast and brightness.
Refer to the Owner’s Manual and the Navigation and Multimedia System \
Owner‘s
Manual for limitations and more details on this system.

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)/TRAC OFF switch
The VSC OFF switch can be used to help free a stuck vehicle in surroundi\
ngs like
mud, dirt or snow. While the vehicle is stopped, press switch to disable\
the TRAC
system.
To disable both VSC and TRAC systems, press and hold the switch for at l\

The Pre-Collision System uses laser sensors and camera sensor to help de\
tect a
vehicle or pedestrian in front of your vehicle.
As there is a limit to the degree of recognition accuracy and control pe\
rformance
that this system can provide, do not overly rely on this system. This sy\
stem will not
prevent collisions or lessen collision damage or injury in every situati\
on. Do not use
PCS instead of normal braking operations under any circumstances. Do not\
attempt to
test the operation of the pre-collision system yourself, as the system m\
ay not operate
or engage, possibly leading to an accident. In some situations, such as \
when driving
in inclement weather such as heavy rain, fog, snow or a sandstorm or whi\
le driving on
a curve and for a few seconds after driving on a curve, a vehicle may no\
t be detected
by the laser and camera sensors, preventing the system from operating or\
engaging
properly.
Refer to a Toyota Owner’s Manual for a list of additional situations \
in which the
system may not operate properly.
Refer to the Toyota Owner’s Manual for additional information on PCS \
w/PD
operation, settings adjustments, limitations, and precautions before att\
empting to
use it.
Pre-Collision Warning
When the system determines that the possibility of a frontal collision i\
s high, a buzzer
will sound and a warning message will be displayed on the Multi-Informat\
ion Display
(MID) to urge the driver to take evasive action.
Pre-Collision Brake Assist
If the driver notices the hazard and brakes, the system may provide addi\
tional braking
force using Brake Assist. This system may prime the brakes and may apply\
greater
braking force in relation to how strongly the brake pedal is depressed.
Pre-Collision Braking
If the driver does not brake in a set time and the system determines tha\
t the possibility
of a frontal collision with a preceding vehicle is extremely high, the s\
ystem may
automatically apply the brakes, reducing speed in order to help the driv\
er reduce the
impact and in certain cases avoid the collision.

TOYOTA SAFETY SENSE™
Note: PCS is enabled each time the engine switch is turned to Ignition O\
n.
The system can be disabled/enabled and the alert timing of the system ca\
n be
changed. (Alert timing only, brake operation remains the same).
Monocular camera sensor
Lasers
As part of the Pre-Collision System, this function is also designed to f\
irst provide an
alert and then automatic braking if needed. In certain conditions, the PCS system included with the TSS-C package ma\
y also
help to detect a pedestrian in front of your vehicle. With Toyota Safety\
Sense™ C,
PCS uses an in-vehicle camera and lasers to help detect a pedestrian in \
front of your
vehicle in certain conditions. The system of PCS detects a potential ped\
estrian based
on size, profile, and motion of the detected pedestrian. However, a pede\
strian may
not be detected depending on the conditions, including the surrounding b\
rightness
and the motion, posture and angle of the potential detected pedestrian, \
preventing the
system from operating or engaging. Refer to a Toyota Owner’s Manual for additional
information.
