Brake Override System/Drive-Start Control
Brake Override System
When the warning light illuminates:
Indicates that the accelerator and brake pedals are being
depressed simultaneously, and the Brake Override Sys-
tem is operating
Release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake
pedal.
When the warning light flashes:
Indicates a malfunction in the Brake Override System
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
Drive-Start Control
When the warning light illuminates:
Indicates that the shift position was changed and Drive-
Start Control was operated while depressing the accelera-
tor pedal
Momentarily release the accelerator pedal.
When the warning light flashes:
Indicates a malfunction in the Drive-Start Control system
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.

Parking lock system warning light (warning buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in the shift control system
• In this situation, there is a possibility that the parking
lock mechanism will not work. When parking, park the
vehicle on a flat surface and apply the parking brake
securely.
• The power switch may not be turned off. If this happens,
applying the parking brake will enable the switch to be
turned off.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.

Parking lock system warning message (warning buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in the shift control system when
the vehicle is stopped
• In this situation, there is a possibility that the parking
lock mechanism will not work. When parking, park the
vehicle on a flat surface and apply the parking brake
securely.
• The power switch may not be turned off. If this happens,
applying the parking brake will enable the switch to be
turned off.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.

Hybrid battery indicator light
The hybrid battery (traction battery) will soon need to be
inspected or replaced
Have the hybrid battery (traction battery) inspected by any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or
any reliable repairer immediately.*2

retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.

LED headlight warning light
Indicates a malfunction in the LED headlights
The LED headlights will not normally illuminate when
there is a malfunction, however they may be able to illu-
minate depending on the nature of the problem.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.

P position request indicator light (warning buzzer)
The amount of charge remaining in the hybrid battery
(traction battery) has fallen because the shift position has
been left in N for a long time
Because recharging is not possible when the shift
position is in N, shift the shift position to P when
parking the vehicle for a long time.
• The driver’s door has been opened while the shift posi-
tion is in N, D or B
• An attempt has been made to start the hybrid system
while the shift position is in anything other than P

When trouble arises
*1: Brake system warning buzzer:
When there is a possible problem that could affect braking performance,
the warning light will come on and a warning buzzer will sound.
Parking brake engaged warning buzzer:
A buzzer will sound if the vehicle is driven at a speed of approximately
5 km/h (3 mph) or more.
*2: If you continue to use the vehicle in this state, the light starts blinking with
buzzer sounds, and you will soon become unable to start the hybrid sys-
tem.
*3: Open door warning buzzer:
The open door warning buzzer sounds to alert one or more of the doors is
not fully closed (with the vehicle having reached a speed of 5 km/h
[3 mph]).
*4: Seat belt buzzer:
The seat belt buzzer sounds to alert the driver, front passenger and rear
passengers that his or her seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer sounds for
30 seconds after the vehicle reaches a speed of 20 km/h (12 mph). Then, if
the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer will sound in a different tone for
90 more seconds.
Carrying out the corresponding action turns the warning light off.

The filter may be clogged, the air intake vent may be
blocked or there may be a gap in the duct.

any reliable repairer.

WARNING
■If both the ABS and the brake system warning lights remain on
Stop your vehicle in a safe place immediately and contact any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized r epairer, or any reliable repairer. The
vehicle will become extremely unstable during braking, and the ABS system
may fail, which could cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
■ When the electric power steering system warning light comes on
The steering wheel may become extremely heavy.
When steering wheel operations are heavier than usual, grip the steering
wheel firmly and operate it using more force than usual.
■ If the tire pressure warning light comes on
Be sure to observe the following precautions. Failure to do so could cause a
loss of vehicle control and result in death or serious injury.
● Stop your vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible. Adjust the tire infla-
tion pressure immediately.
● Vehicles with spare tire: If the tire pressure warning light comes on even
after tire inflation pressure adjustment, it is probable that you have a flat
tire. Check the tires. If a tire is flat, change it with the spare tire and have
the flat tire repaired by the nearest any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
● Vehicles with emergency tire puncture repair kit: If the tire pressure warn-
ing light comes on even after tire inflat ion pressure adjustment, it is proba-
ble that you have a flat tire. Check the tire s. If a tire is flat, repair the flat tire
by using emergency tire puncture repair kit.
● Avoid abrupt maneuvering and braking. If the vehicle tires deteriorate, you
could lose control of the steering wheel or the brakes.
■ If a blowout or sudden air leakage should occur
The tire pressure warning system may not activate immediately.
NOTICE
■ To ensure the tire pressure warning system operates properly
Do not install tires with different specif ications or makers, as the tire pres-
sure warning system may not operate properly.

This message may be displayed when driving
under severe operating conditions, and the out-
put of the hybrid system may temporarily
decrease in order to protect the system. (For
example, when driving up a long steep hill or
driving up a steep hill in reverse.)
A buzzer also sounds.

Shift control system malfunction
A buzzer also sounds.
Have the vehicle inspected by any autho-
rized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer immedi-
ately. If not inspected, vehicle systems may
stop operating normally.
Shift control system communication malfunction
A buzzer also sounds.
Have the vehicle inspected by any autho-
rized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.
• The hybrid system may not be able to start.
• May not be switched to the P position.
When parking, choose a level location and
apply the parking brake securely.
• The automatically P position selection func-
tion ( P. 236) may not function. Before
turning the power switch off, securely press
the P position switch, and be sure to check
that the shift position is in P by verifying the
shift position or P position switch operation
indicator lights.
• The power switch may not be able to be
turned off. In this case, the power switch
may be turned off by applying the parking
brake.
Indicates a malfunction in the LED headlight sys-
tem

One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
● The 12-volt battery may be discharged. (P. 513)
● One or both of the 12-volt battery terminals may be disconnected.
( P. 389)
Contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer,
or any reliable repairer if the problem cannot be repaired, or if repair
procedures are unknown.
When the hybrid system does not start, the following steps can be
used as an interim measure to start the hybrid system if the power
switch is functioning normally.
Do not use this starting procedure except in cases of emergency.
Set the parking brake.
Turn the power switch to ACCESSORY mode.
Press and hold the power switch for about 15 seconds while
depressing the brake pedal firmly.
Even if the hybrid system can be started using the above steps, the
system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
The interior lights and headlights do not turn on, or the horn
does not sound.

If the electronic key does not operate
properly
Use the mechanical key ( P. 141)
in order to perform the following
operations:
Locks all the doors
Unlocks all the doors
Ensure that the shift position is in P and depress the brake pedal.
Touch the Toyota emblem side
of the electronic key to the
power switch.
When the electronic key is
detected, a buzzer sounds and the
power switch will turn to ON mode.
When the smart entry & start sys-
tem is deactivated in customization
setting, the power switch will turn
to ACCESSORY mode.
Firmly depress the brake pedal and check that the smart entry &
start system indicator light (green) turns on (vehicles without multi-
information display) or is shown on the multi-information
display (vehicles with multi-information display).
If communication between the electronic key and vehicle is inter-
rupted ( P. 156) or the electronic key cannot be used because the
battery is depleted, the smart entry & start system and wireless
remote control cannot be used. In such cases, the doors can be
opened and the hybrid system can be started by following the pro-
cedure below.

●Did anyone inside the vehicle open a door during setting the alarm?
The sensor detects it and the alarm sounds. (P. 104)
To stop the alarm, turn the power switch to ON mode or start the hybrid sys-
tem.
