When trouble arises
Indicates a malfunction in the shift control systemIn this situation, there is a possibility that the
parking lock mechanism will not work. When
parking, park the vehicle on a flat surface and
apply the parking brake securely. Also, it may
not be possible to turn the power switch off. If
this happens, applying the parking brake will
enable the switch to be turned off. A buzzer
also sounds.
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota
dealer.
Indicates a malfunction in the hybrid system
A buzzer also sounds.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place
and contact your Toyota dealer.
Indicates that the hybrid battery (traction battery)
is low
A buzzer also sounds.
When stopping the vehicle, shift the shift
position to P. The battery cannot be
charged with the shift position in N.
Indicates that the shift position was changed and
Drive-Start Control was operated while depress-
ing the accelerator pedal
A buzzer also sounds.
Momentarily release the accelerator pedal.
Indicates that the LDA (Lane Departure Alert with
steering control) system has determined that the
driver does not have the hands on the steering
wheel while the steering control function is on
If the driver operates the steering wheel only a
small amount, the system may be unable to
detect the steering wheel operations and this
warning may be displayed.
Firmly hold the steering wheel.

Indicates that the P position switch is pressed
while the vehicle is running.A buzzer also sounds.
The shift position automatically changed to N.
To shift the shift position to P, stop the
vehicle completely and press the P posi-
tion switch.
To continue driving, shift the shift position
to D or R.
Insufficient 12-volt battery charge
The parking lock mechanism may not function.
The hybrid system may not be able to start.
The power switch may not be able to be turned
off. In this case, the power switch may be
turned off by applying the parking brake.
After charging the 12-volt battery, the message
may continue to be displayed until the shift
position is changed from P.
A buzzer also sounds.
When parking, choose a level location and
apply the parking brake securely.
Maintain the hybrid system operation state
for approximately 15 minutes or more to
recharge the 12-volt battery.
The hybrid system will not start: Start the
hybrid system by following the “If the
12-volt battery is discharged” procedure
(P. 523).
If the message does not disappear: The
12-volt battery may be deteriorating.
The 12-volt battery may be discharged if
this continues. Have the 12-volt battery
inspected at your Toyota dealer.
Shift control system malfunction
A buzzer also sounds.
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota
dealer.
• The hybrid system may not be able to start.
• The parking lock mechanism may not func- tion. When parking, choose a level location
and apply the parking brake securely.
• The power switch may not be able to be
turned off. In this case, the power switch
may be turned off by applying the parking
brake.

cle systems may stop operating normally.
Shift control system communication malfunction
A buzzer also sounds.
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota
dealer.
• The hybrid system may not be able to start.
• May not be switched to the P position. When parking, choose a level location and
apply the parking brake securely.
• The automatically P position selection func- tion ( P. 178) may not function. Before
turning the power switch off, securely press
the P position switch, and be sure to check
that the shift position is in P by verifying the
shift position or P position switch operation
indicator lights.
• The power switch may not be able to be
turned off. In this case, the power switch
may be turned off by applying the parking
brake.

Indicates a malfunction in the LED headlight sys-

■When using the compact spare tire
●Remember that the spare tire provided is specifically designed for use
with your vehicle. Do not use your spare tire on another vehicle.
●Do not use more than one compact spare tire simultaneously.
●Replace the spare tire with a standard tire as soon as possible.
●Avoid sudden acceleration, abrupt steering, sudden braking and shift-
ing operations that cause sudden engine braking.
■When the compact spare tire is attached
The vehicle speed may not be correctly detected, and the following sys-
tems may not operate correctly:

■Speed limit when using the compact spare tire
Do not drive at speeds in excess of 50 mph (80 km/h) when a compact
spare tire is installed on the vehicle.
The compact spare tire is not designed for driving at high speeds. Fail-
ure to observe this precaution may lead to an accident causing death or
serious injury.
■After using the tools and jack
Before driving, make sure all the tools and jack are securely in place in
their storage location to reduce the possibility of personal injury during a
collision or sudden braking.

AVERTISSEMENT
■Dommages et usure de la ceinture de sécurité
Vérifiez périodiquement le système de ceintures de sécurité. Vérifiez qu’il
n’y a pas de coupures, d’effilochures ni de pièces desserrées. N’utilisez pas
une ceinture de sécurité endommagée avant qu’elle ne soit remplacée. Les
ceintures de sécurité endommagées ne peuvent pas protéger les occu-
pants contre les blessures graves, voire mortelles.
