Energy economy mode
System which manages the duration of use of certain functions to conserve a sufficient level of charge in the battery.After the engine has stopped, you can still use functions such as the audio and telematics system, windscreen wipers, dipped beam headlamps, courtesy lamps, etc. for a maximum combined duration of about forty minutes.
Switching to economy
mode
A message appears in the instrument panel screen indicating that the vehicle has switched to economy mode and the active functions are put on standby.
If a telephone call is being made at this time, it will be maintained for around 10 minutes with the Bluetooth hands-free system of your audio system.
Exiting economy mode
These functions are reactivated automatically next time the vehicle is driven.In order to restore the use of these functions immediately, start the engine and let it run:- for less than ten minutes, to use the equipment for approximately five minutes,- for more than ten minutes, to use the equipment for up to approximately thirty minutes.Let the engine run for the duration specified to ensure that the battery charge is sufficient.Do not repeatedly and continuously restart the engine in order to charge the battery.A flat battery prevents the engine from starting.For more information on the 12 V batter y, refer to the corresponding section.
Load reduction mode
System which manages the use of certain functions according to the level of charge remaining in the battery.When the vehicle is being driven, the load reduction function temporarily deactivates certain functions, such as the air conditioning, the heated rear screen...The deactivated functions are reactivated automatically as soon as conditions permit.

Changing the coolant
The coolant does not have to be replaced at routine services.
Fluid specification
The coolant must conform to the manufacturer's recommendations.
The check and top-up must be done with the engine cold.A low coolant level presents the risk of serious damage to your engine.
If the ambient temperature is high, it
is recommended that the engine be allowed to idle for 1 to 2 minutes after the vehicle comes to a stop, to facilitate its cooling.
Avoid prolonged contact of used oil or fluids with the skin.Most of these fluids are harmful to health or indeed very corrosive.
Do not discard used oil or fluids into sewers or onto the ground.Take used oil to an authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional (France) or to an authorised waste disposal site.

A low additive level is indicated by illumination of this warning lamp, accompanied by an audible warning and a message in the instrument panel screen.
Fluid specification
For optimum cleaning and to avoid freezing, this fluid must not be topped up with or replaced with plain water.
Screenwash and headlamp

In the case of vehicles fitted with headlamp washers, the low fluid level is indicated by an audible signal and a message in the instrument panel screen.Top up the reservoir when you next stop the vehicle.
In wintry conditions, the use of an ethyl alcohol or methanol base fluid is recommended.

Checks
12 V battery
The battery does not require any maintenance.However, check regularly that the terminals are correctly tightened (versions without quick release terminals) and that the connections are clean.

Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Replace the oil filter each time the engine oil is changed.Refer to the manufacturer's service schedule for details of the replacement interval for this component.
Oil filter
Diesel Particle Filter (DPF)
The start of saturation of the particle filter is indicated by the temporary illumination of this warning lamp accompanied by a message in the multifunction screen.
As soon as the traffic conditions permit, regenerate the filter by driving at a speed of at least 40 mph (60 km/h) until the warning lamp goes off.If the warning lamp stays on, this indicates a low additive level.For more information on Checking levels, refer to the corresponding section.
On a new vehicle, the first particle filter regeneration operations may be accompanied by a "burning" smell, which is per fectly normal.Following prolonged operation of the
vehicle at very low speed or at idle, you may, in exceptional circumstances, notice the emission of water vapour at the exhaust on acceleration. This does not affect the behaviour of the vehicle or the environment.
Unless otherwise indicated, check these components in accordance with the manufacturer's service schedule and according to your engine.Other wise, have them checked by an authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.

Topping-up the AdBlue®
Filling the AdBlue® tank is an operation included in every routine service on your vehicle by an authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.Nevertheless, given the capacity of the tank, it may be necessary to top-up the fluid between services, more particularly if an alert (warning lamps and a message) signals the requirement.You can go to an authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.If you envisage topping-up yourself, please read the following warnings carefully.
Precautions in use
Keep AdBlue® out of the reach of children, in its original bottle.Never transfer AdBlue® to another container: it would lose its purity.
Use only AdBlue® fluid that meets the ISO 22241 standard.
Never dilute AdBlue® with water.Never pour AdBlue® into the Diesel fuel tank.
The supply in a non-drip bottle simplifies topping-up. You can obtain 1.89 litre (half a US gallon) bottles from an authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
Never top-up from an AdBlue® dispenser reserved for heavy goods vehicles.
AdBlue® is a urea-based solution. This liquid is non-flammable, colourless and odourless (kept in a cool area).In the event of contact with the skin, wash the affected area with soap and water. In the event of contact with the eyes, wash (irrigate) the eyes with large amounts of water or with an eye wash solution for at least 15 minutes. If a burning sensation or irritation persists, get medical attention.If swallowed, immediately wash out the mouth with clean water and then drink plenty of water.In certain conditions (high ambient temperature, for example), the risk of release of ammonia cannot be excluded: do not inhale the fluid. Ammonia vapour has an irritant effect on mucous membranes (eyes, nose and throat).ImportantIf your vehicle's AdBlue® tank is completely empty (which is confirmed by the alert messages and the impossibility of starting the engine) you must add at least 3.8 litres (so two 1.89 litre bottles).

Changing a fuse
To replace a fuse, you must:F use the special tweezer to extract the fuse from its housing and check the condition of its filament.F always replace the failed fuse with a fuse of the same rating (same colour); using a different rating could cause faults (risk of f i r e).If the fuse fails again soon after replacement, have the vehicle's electrical system checked by an authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.

For optimum service life of the battery, it is essential to maintain an adequate state of charge.In some circumstances it may be necessary to charge the battery:- if you use your vehicle essentially for short journeys,- if the vehicle is to be taken off the road for several weeks.Contact an authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
Charging the battery using

F Switch off the ignition.F Switch off all electrical consumers (audio system, lighting, wipers, ...).
If you envisage charging your vehicle's battery yourself, use only a charger compatible with lead-acid batteries of a nominal voltage of 12 V.
Follow the instructions for use provided by the manufacturer of the charger.Never reverse polarities.
Never try to charge a frozen battery.If the battery has been frozen, have it checked by an authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional, who will check that the internal components have not been damaged and the casing is not cracked, which could cause a leak of toxic and corrosive acid.
If this label is present, it is essential to use only a 12 V charger, to avoid causing irreversible damage to the electrical components related to the Stop & Start system.
It is not necessary to disconnect the battery.
F Switch off the charger B before connecting the cables to the battery, so as to avoid any dangerous sparks.F Ensure that the charger cables are in good condition.F Raise the plastic cover, if your vehicle has one, on the (+) terminal.
F Connect the charger B cables as follows:- the positive (+) red cable to the (+) terminal of the battery A,- the negative (-) black cable to the earth point C on the vehicle.F At the end of the charging operation, switch off the charger B before disconnecting the cables from the battery A.

Weights
The kerb weight is equal to the unladen weight + driver (75 kg).The GTW and towed load values indicated apply up to a maximum altitude of 1 000 metres; the towed load mentioned must be reduced by 10 % for every additional 1 000 metres.The weight of the braked trailer can be increased, within the GTW limit, on condition that the GV W of the towing vehicle is reduced by the same amount.The recommended nose weight is the vertical load on the towbar ball (removable with or without tools).
High ambient temperatures may result in a reduction in the per formance of the vehicle to protect the engine; when the ambient temperature is higher than 37 °C, limit the towed weight.
If the ambient temperature is high, it is recommended that the engine be allowed to idle for 1 to 2 minutes after the vehicle comes to a stop, to facilitate its cooling.
Towing with a lightly loaded vehicle can adversely affect roadholding.Braking distances are increased when towing a trailer.Never exceed 60 mph (100 km/h) when towing (comply with the legislation in force in your country).
