OBDII scan tool (excluding TOYOTA hand−held tester):
1 Check voltage between terminal STA of ECM connector and body ground.
PREPARATION:
(a) Turn up the floor mat on the passenger side.
(b) Remove the 2 bolts for ECM.
CHECK:
Measure the voltage between terminal STA of ECM connector
and the body ground during engine is cranking.
OK:
Voltage: 6.0 V or more.
OK Proceed to next circuit inspection shown on
matrix chart (See page DI−20).
NG
2 Check for open in harness and connector between ECM and starter relay
(Marking: ST) (See page IN−30).
NG Repair or replace harness or connector.
OK
Check and replace ECM
(See page IN−30).

OK:
Voltage: 9 − 14 V
OK Check and replace ECM (See page IN−30).
NG
2 Check EFI fuse.
PREPARATION:
Remove EFI fuse from R/B No.2.
CHECK:
Check continuity of EFI fuse.
OK:
Continuity
NG Check for short in all the harness and compo-
nents connected to EFI fuse.
OK
Check and repair harness or connector be-
tween battery and EFI fuse, EFI fuse and
ECM.

1 Check park / neutral position switch.
PREPARATION:
Disconnect park / neutral position switch connector.
CHECK:
Check continuity between each terminal shown below when the
shift lever is positioned to each range.

Measure voltage between terminal NSW of ECM connector and
body ground after the shift lever is moved to the following posi-
tions.
OK:

OK Check and replace ECM (See page IN−30).

Check for open and short in harness and con-
nector between ECM and park / neutral posi-
tion switch (See page IN−30).

NG Check for short in all the harness and compo-

Remove IGN fuse from fuse block.
CHECK:
Check continuity of IGN fuse.
OK:
Continuity
NG Check for short in all the harness and compo-
nents connected to IGN fuse.
OK
7 Check ignition switch (See page BE−11).
NG Replace ignition switch.
OK
Check for open in harness and connector between IG switch and EFI main relay (Marking: EFI),
EFI main relay (Marking: EFI) and body ground (See page IN−30).

1 Connect the TOYOTA hand−held tester and check operation of fuel pump (See
page SF−5).
OK Check for starter signal circuit (See page

PREPARATION:

CHECK:
(a) Connect between terminal FC of ECM and body ground.
(b) Check for fuel pressure in the inlet hose when it is pinched
off.
OK:
There is pressure in the inlet hose.
HINT:
At this time, you will hear a fuel flowing noise.
OK Check for starter signal circuit (See page
DI−105).
NG
2 Check for ECM power source circuit (See page DI−11 3).
NG Repair or replace.
OK
3 Check circuit opening relay (See page SF−40).
NG Replace circuit opening relay.
