■Escaping the vehicle from the
window
There are cases where escaping the vehicle from the window is not possi -
ble due to seating position, passenger
body type, etc.
When using an emergency hammer,
consider your seat location and the
size of the window opening to ensure
that the opening is accessible and large enough to escape.

If your vehicle needs to
be towed
If towing is necessary, we rec -
ommend having your vehicle
towed by any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reli -
able repairer or commercial
towing service, using a wheel-
lift type truck or flatbed truck.
Use a safety chain system for
all towing, and abide by all
state/provincia l and local laws.
If towing your vehicle with a
wheel-lift type truck, use a tow -
ing dolly. ( →P.563, 564)
WARNING
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or
serious injury.
■When towing the vehicle
Be sure to transport the vehicle with
all four wheels raise d off the ground.
If the vehicle is t owed with the tires contacting the groun d, the drivetrain
or related parts may be damaged, the
vehicle may fly off the truck, or elec- tricity generated by the operation of
the motor may caus e a fire to occur
depending on the nature of the dam- age or malfunction.
■While towing
●When towing using cables or
chains, avoid sudden starts, etc. which place excessive stress on the
towing eyelets, cables or chains.
The towing eyelets, cables or chains may become damaged, bro -
ken debris may hit people, and
cause serious damage.
●Do not turn the power switch off.
There is a possibility that the steer - ing wheel is locked and cannot be
operated.
■Installing towing eyelets to the
vehicle
Make sure that towing eyelets are installed securely . If not securely
installed, towing ey elets may come
loose during towing.

The following may indicate a prob-
lem with your transmission. Contact
any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer or commercial tow -
ing service before towing.
The hybrid system warning mes-
sage is shown on the multi-infor -
mation display and the vehicle
does not move.
The vehicle makes an abnormal
sound.
From the front
Use a towing dolly under the rear
wheels.
From the rear
Use a towing dolly under the front
wheels.
NOTICE
■To prevent damage to the vehicle
when towing using a wheel-lift
type truck
●Do not tow the vehicle from the rear
when the power switch is off. The
steering lock mechanism is not strong enough to hold the front
wheels straight.
●When raising the vehicle, ensure adequate ground clearance for tow -
ing at the opposite end of the raised
vehicle. Without adequate clear - ance, the vehicle could be dam -
aged while being towed.
■To prevent damage to the vehicle
when towing with a sling-type
truck
Do not tow with a sling-type truck,
either from the front or rear.
■To prevent damage to the vehicle
during emergency towing
Do not secure cables or chains to the suspension components.

■Brake system warning light
If a warning light turns on or a warning buzzer sounds
Calmly perform the following actions if any of the warning lights
comes on or flashes. If a light c omes on or flashes, but then goes
off, this does not necessarily i ndicate a malfunction in the system.
However, if this continues to occur, have the vehicle inspected by
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, o r any
reliable repairer.

Indicates that:
The brake fluid level is low; or
The brake system is malfunctioning
→ Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place
and contact any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer. Continuing to drive the vehicle may
be dangerous.

Indicates a ma lfunction in:
The parking brake system;
The regenerative braking system; or
The electronically controlled brake system

When a buzzer sounds simultaneously:
Indicates a malfunction has occurred in the PCS
(Pre-Collision System).
→ Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer,
or any reliable re pairer immediately.
When a buzzer does not sound:
The PCS (Pre-Collision S ystem) has become tempo-
rarily unavailable, corrective action may be neces -
sary.

If the PCS (Pre-Collision System) or VSC (Vehicle
Stability Control) system is disabled, the PCS warn-
ing light will illuminate.

Indicates that the system is temporarily unavailable,
possibly due to a sensor being dirty or covered with
ice, etc.

If “Parking Assist Unavaila ble” is displayed on the

Brake Override System is malfunctioning;
Drive-Start Control is operating;
Drive-Start Control is malfunctioning; or

information display and head-up display (if
equipped).
When a buzzer does not sound:
Brake Override System is operating
→ Release the accelerator pedal and depress the
brake pedal.

It is possible that the parking brake is not fully
engaged or released
→ Operate the parking brake switch once again.
This light comes on when the parking brake is not
released. If the light turns o ff after the parking brake
is fully released, the sys tem is operating normally.
