Power windows (Type A)

The windows can be operated with the
switch on each door. The passenger ’s
window can also be controlled by the
switch on the driver ’s door.
The power windows work when the ignition
switch is in the “ON” position.
OPERATING THE SWITCHES
To lower the window, push the switch
halfway down. Pull it up to raise the
window. The window glass moves as
long as the switch is operated.

switch
Automatic operation: Push the switch
completely down or pull it completely up,
and then release it. The window will fully
open or close. To stop the window part-
way, lightly move the switch in the oppo-
site direction and then release it.
Window lock switch: If you push in the
window lock switch on the driver ’s door,
the passenger ’s window cannot be oper-
ated.
The indicator lights on the switch tell you
which of the switches can be operated.
Jam protection function: During automat-
ic closing operation, the window stops and
opens halfway if something gets caught
between the window and body.If the window receives a strong impact,
this function may work even if nothing is
caught.
CAUTION
To avoid serious personal injury, you
must do the following.
Before you close the power win-
dows, always make sure there is
nobody around the power windows.
You must also make sure the
heads, hands and other parts of the
bodies of all occupants are kept
completely inside the vehicle. If
someone’s neck, head or hands get
caught in a closing window, it
could result in death or serious in-
jury. When anyone closes the power
windows, make sure he or she op-
erates the windows safely.
When small children are in the ve-
hicle, never let them use the power
window switches without supervi-
sion. Use the window lock switch to
prevent them from making unex-
pected use of the switches.
Be sure to remove the ignition key
when you leave your vehicle.

Never leave anyone (particularly a
small child) alone in your vehicle,
especially with the ignition key still
inserted. Otherwise, he/she could
use the power window switches and
get trapped in a window. Unat-
tended person (particularly a small
child) can be involved in a serious
accident.
Never try jamming any part of your
body to activate the jam protection
function intentionally, as it could re-
sult in a serious injury.
The jam protection function may
not work if something gets caught
just before the window is fully
closed.
If the battery is disconnected or run
down
The power window may not operate auto-
matically and the jam protection function
will not function correctly after you recon-
nect, replace or recharge the battery. At
this time, the indicator lights of the
switches will flash. In any of these cases,
you should normalize the power window
on each door.To normalize the power windows:
1. Push down the power window switch of
each door and lower the windows half-
way.
2. Pull up the switch until the windows
close and hold the switch for at least
one second.
Make sure that the windows open and
close automatically. If the power windows
cannot be operated properly, have them
checked by your Scion dealer.

OPERATING THE DRIVER’S WINDOW
Use the switch on the driver’s side.
Normal operation: The window moves as
long as you hold the switch.
To open: Lightly push down the switch.
To close: Pull up the switch.

Automatic operation (to open only):
Push the switch completely down and then
release it. The window will fully open. To
stop the window partway, lightly pull the
switch up and then release it.

OPERATING THE PASSENGER’S WIN-
DOWS
Use the switch on the passenger ’s side.
The window moves as long as you hold
the switch.
To open: Push down the switch.
To close: Pull up the switch.
Window lock switch: If you push in the
window lock switch on the driver ’s door,
the passengers’ windows cannot be oper-
ated.
The indicator lights on the switch tell you
which of the switches can be operated.

Back door

To open the back door, push the back
door opener and raise the door.
The back door can be opened when the
vehicle is stopped.
The back door can be locked or unlocked
in the following ways.
Operate the power door lock switch.
(See “Side doors” on page 15.)
Operate the wireless remote control.
(See “Wireless remote control” on page
11 . )
The side doors and back door are
locked and unlocked simultaneously
with the driver’s door. (See “Side
doors” on page 15.)When the side doors and back door are
unlocked simultaneously with a key, the
interior lights and ignition switch light will
come on and remain on for about 15 sec-
onds before fading out. (For details, see
“Interior lights” on page 94 and “Ignition
switch light” on page 95.)
If the back door opener does not operate,
see “If you cannot operate back door
opener” on page 204.
If the battery is disconnected or run
down, the back door will be automatically
locked and the back door system may not
work after you reconnect, replace or re-
charge the battery. In any of these cases,
normalize the back door system by follow-
ing procedure.
1. Unlock the back door with the remote
control key or power door lock switch.
2. Close the back door completely by
hand.
If the back door system does not operate
properly after the above procedure, there
may be a problem in the system. Contact
your Scion dealer.

could inflate with considerable
speed and force. Otherwise, he/she
may be killed or seriously injured.

To defog or defrost the rear window,
push the switch.
The key must be in the “ON” position.
The thin heater wires on the inside of the
rear window will quickly clear the surface.
An indicator light will illuminate to indicate
the defogger is operating.
Push the switch once again to turn the
defogger off.
The system will automatically shut off af-
ter the defogger has operated about 15
minutes.Make sure you turn the defogger off when
the window is clear. Leaving the defogger
on for a long time could cause the battery
to discharge, especially during stop–
and–go driving. The defogger is not de-
signed for drying rain water or for melting
snow.
NOTICE
When cleaning the inside of the rear
window, be careful not to scratch or
damage the heater wires or connec-
tors.
