Toyota Safety Sense*
The Toyota Safety Sense con-
sists of the following drive
assist systems and contrib-
utes to a safe and comfortable
driving experience:
Driving assist system
WARNING
■Toyota Safety Sense
The Toyota Safety Sense is designed
to operate under the assumption that the driver will drive safely, and is designed to help reduce the impact to
the occupants and the vehicle in the case of a collision or assist the driver in normal driving conditions.
As there is a limit to the degree of rec- ognition accuracy and control perfor-mance that this system can provide,
do not overly rely on this system. The driver is always responsible for pay-ing attention to the vehicle’s sur-
roundings and driving safely.

8-2. Steps to take in an emergency
When trouble arises
■If “Engine Oil Level Low Add or
Replace” is displayed
The engine oil level may be low. Check the level of the engine oil, and add
engine oil if necessary. This message may be displayed if the vehicle is stopped on a slope. Move the vehicle to
a level surface and check if the mes- sage disappears.
■If a message that indicates the mal-function of front camera is dis-
played (if equipped)
The following systems may be sus- pended until the problem shown in the
message is resolved. ( P.353, 568)
●PCS (Pre-Collision System)*
●LTA (Lane Tracing Assist)*
●Automatic High Beam*
●RSA (Road Sign Assist)*
●Dynamic radar cruise control with full-
speed range*
*: If equipped
■If “Radar Cruise Control Unavail- able See Owner’s Manual” is
shown (if equipped)
The dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range system (if equipped) is
suspended temporarily or until the prob- lem shown in the message is resolved. (causes and coping methods: P.353)
■If “Radar Cruise Control Unavail-
able” is shown (if equipped)
The dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range system (if equipped)
cannot be used temporarily. Use the system when it becomes available again.
■Warning buzzer
P.576
WARNING
■If a warning light comes on or a warning buzzer sounds when a
warning message is shown on the multi-information display
P.577
NOTICE
■“High Power Consumption Par- tial Limit On AC/Heater Opera-
tion” is frequently shown
There is a possible malfunction relat- ing to the charging system or the 12-
volt battery may be deteriorating. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■If “Maintenance required For Traction Battery At Your Dealer” is shown
The hybrid battery (traction battery) is scheduled to be inspected or replaced. Have the vehicle inspected
by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer immediately.
●Continuing to drive the vehicle with- out having the hybrid battery (trac-
tion battery) inspected will cause the hybrid system not to start.
●If the hybrid system does not start, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer immediately.

WARNING
■When using the compact spare tire
●Remember that the compact spare tire provided is specifically designed for use with your vehicle.
Do not use your compact spare tire on another vehicle.
●Do not use more than one compact spare tire simultaneously.
●Replace the compact spare tire with a standard tire as soon as possible.
●Avoid sudden acceleration, abrupt steering, sudden braking and shift-ing operations that cause sudden
engine braking.
■When the compact spare tire is
attached
The vehicle speed may not be cor- rectly detected, and the following sys-
tems may not operate correctly:
• ABS & Brake assist
• VSC/Trailer Sway Control
•TRC
• Cruise control (if equipped)
• Dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range (if equipped)
• PCS (Pre-Collision System) (if equipped)
• EPS
• LTA (Lane Tracing Assist) (if
equipped)
• Tire pressure warning system
• AHB (Automatic High Beam) (if equipped)
• BSM (Blind Spot Monitor) (if equipped)
• Rear view monitor system (if equipped)
• Panoramic view monitor (if equipped)
• Toyota parking assist monitor (if equipped)
• Toyota parking assist-sensor (if equipped)
• PKSB (Parking Support Brake) (if equipped)
• Navigation system (if equipped)
Also, not only can the following sys-
tem not be utilized fully, but it may actually negatively affect the drive-train components:
• E-Four (Electronic On-Demand AWD system)
■Speed limit when using the com-pact spare tire
Do not drive at speeds in excess of 80
km/h (50 mph) when a compact spare tire is installed on the vehicle.
The compact spare tire is not
designed for driving at high speeds. Failure to observe this precaution may lead to an accident causing
death or serious injury.
■After using the tools and jack
Before driving, make sure all the tools and jack are securely in place in their storage location to reduce the possi-
bility of personal injury during a colli- sion or sudden braking.
NOTICE
■Be careful when driving over
bumps with the compact spare tire installed on the vehicle
The vehicle height may become lower
when driving with the compact spare tire compared to when driving with standard tires. Be careful when driv-
ing over uneven road surfaces.
