WARNING
■Used engine oil
● Used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may
cause skin disorders such as inflammation and skin cancer, so care
should be taken to avoid prolonged and repeated contact. To remove used
engine oil from your skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water.
● Dispose of used oil and filters only in a safe and acceptable manner. Do
not dispose of used oil and filters in household trash, in sewers or onto the
ground.
Call any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer, service station or auto parts store for information con-
cerning recycling or disposal.
● Do not leave used engine oil within the reach of children.
NOTICE
■To prevent serious engine damage
Check the oil level on a regular basis.
■ When replacing the engine oil
● Be careful not to spill engine oil on the vehicle components.
● Avoid overfilling, or the engine could be damaged.
● Check the oil level on the dipstick every time you refill the vehicle.
● Be sure the engine oil filler cap is properly tightened.

Air conditioning filter
Turn the power switch to the “LOCK” position (vehicles without a
smart entry & start system) or off (vehicles with a smart entry & start
system).
Open the glove box and slide
off the damper.
Push in each side of the glove
box to disconnect the upper
claws.
Pull out the glove box and dis-
connect the lower claws.
The air conditioning filter must be changed regularly to maintain
air conditioning efficiency.

Remove the filter cover.
Unlock the filter cover.
Move the filter cover in the
direction of the arrow, and
then pull it out of the claws.
Remove the air conditioning fil-
ter and replace it with a new
one.
The “ UP” marks shown on the fil-
ter should be pointing up.
■ Checking interval
Inspect and replace the air conditioning filter according to the maintenance
schedule. In dusty areas or areas with heavy traffic flow, early replacement
may be required. (For scheduled maintenance information, please refer to the
“Toyota Service Booklet” or “Toyota Warranty Booklet”.)
■ If air flow from the vents decreases dramatically
The filter may be clogged. Check the filter and replace if necessary.

NOTICE
■When using the air conditioning system
Make sure that a filter is always installed.
Using the air conditi oning system without a filter may cause damage to the
system.
■ When removing the glove box
Always follow the specified procedure to remove the glove box ( P. 474). If
the glove box is removed without following the specified procedure, the
hinge of the glove box may become damaged.
■ To prevent damage to the filter cover
When moving the filter cover in the direc-
tion of arrow to release the fitting, pay
attention not to apply excessive force to
the claws. Otherwise, the claws may be
damaged.

Carrying out the corresponding action turns the warning light off.
■Passenger detection sensor and passenger seat belt reminder
● If luggage is placed on a passenger seat, the passenger detection sensor
may cause the warning light to flash even if a passenger is not sitting in the
seat.
● If a cushion is placed on the seat, the sensor may not detect a passenger,
and the warning light may not operate properly.
■ Warning light operations for unfastened rear passenger seat belts
● When opening and closing the rear door, the warning light comes on for
approximately 34 seconds.
● When any of the rear seat belts are unfastened, the warning light comes on.
When the rear doors are opened and closed while the warning light is on,
the warning light will turn off after approximately 34 seconds.
■ If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
For some models, the malfunction indicator lamp will come on if the fuel tank
becomes completely empty. If the fuel tank is empty, refuel the vehicle imme-
diately. The malfunction indicator lamp will go off after several trips.
If the malfunction indicator lamp does not go off, contact any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repai rer, or any reliable repairer as soon
as possible.

Indicates that maintenance of the hybrid battery (traction
battery) cooling component is required
The filter may be clogged, the air intake vent may be
blocked or there may be a gap in the duct.
If the air intake vent is dirty, refer to P. 420 for clean-

If the warning light comes on and the air intake vent
is not dirty, have the vehicle inspected at any autho-
rized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or
any reliable repairer.

If “Hybrid system malfunction. Stop in a safe place. See owner’s
manual.” is shown, there may be a malfunction. Immediately have
the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■If “Maintenance required for Traction battery cooling parts.
See owner’s manual” is shown
The filter may be clogged, the air intake vent may be blocked or
there may be a gap in the duct.
If the air intake vent is dirty, refer to P. 420 for cleaning the air intake
vent.
If the message is being displayed and the air intake vent is not dirty,
have the vehicle inspected at any authorized Toyota retailer or Toy-
ota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■If “Charging system malfunction. Stop in a safe place. See
owner’s manual.” is shown
Indicates a malfunction in the vehicle’s charging system. Immedi-
ately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer. Continuing to drive the vehicle may be dangerous.
■If “Engine oil pressure low” is shown
Indicates that the engine oil pressure is too low. Immediately stop
the vehicle in a safe place and contact any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
