ChangeTo shift one gear:
–Pull one of the paddles toward the steer- ing wheel and then release.As long as the engine speed (rpm) is withinthe permissible range for the selected gear, agear shift will take place each time a paddle ispulled. After each gear shift, a number indicat-ing the current gear will be displayed in theinstrument panel.

–Deactivate the paddles by pulling the right paddle ( +) toward the steering wheel and
holding it until the number of the currentgear is no longer displayed in the instru-ment panel.
> The transmission will revert to gear D
or B depending on which gear was
selected before the paddles were acti- vated.
Automatic deactivation
In gear position D, the steering wheel paddles
are deactivated after a short period of time if they are not used. The number of the currentgear will no longer be displayed in the instru-ment panel. In gear position B, the paddles will not acti-
vate automatically.

From Park -
P
To move the gear selector from P to another
gear, the brake pedal must be depressed and the ignition in mode II.
From Neutral - N
If the gear selector is in N and the vehicle has
been stationary for at least 3 seconds (with or without the engine running), the gear selectorwill be locked in that position. To move the gear selector from N to another
gear, the brake pedal must be depressed and the ignition in mode II.
Messages in the instrument panelIf the gear selector is locked in position, amessage will appear in the instrument panel, e.g.
Gear lever Press brake pedal to
activate gear lever.
There is no mechanical shiftlock function.

Do not leave the vehicle in an unventilated area with a drive mode activated and thecombustion engine switched off. Theengine will start automatically if the chargelevel in the hybrid battery is low and theresulting exhaust gases can be very harm-ful to people and animals.
Hybrid
This is the default mode in which the elec- tric motor and combustion engine worktogether.
The vehicle starts in
Hybrid mode. The control
system uses both the electric motor and the gasoline engine – separately or in tandem –and adapts utilization with regard to perform-ance, fuel consumption and comfort. Drivingcapacity on the electric motor alone is deter-mined by factors such as the hybrid battery'scharge level, the need for heat or cooling inthe passenger compartment, etc. If there is sufficient charge in the battery, it is possible to drive solely on electric power.When the accelerator pedal is pressed, onlythe electric motor will be activated until thebattery reaches a certain charge level. Abovethis level, the current in the battery cannotsupply the power requested by the acceleratorpedal and the combustion engine will start. When the hybrid battery's charge level is low, the combustion engine will start more fre- quently to save the remaining current in thebattery. Charge the hybrid battery from a120-240 volt outlet using a charging cable, or activate
Charge in Function view to reset the
option of only using the electric motor. This drive mode is designed for low energy consumption with a mix between the electricmotor and gasoline engine, without compro-mising on climate comfort or driving experi-ence. When faster acceleration is requestedby the driver, the electric driveline will be uti-lized to help provide maximum additionalpower. The vehicle also monitors the driving condi- tions and automatically engages all-wheeldrive if necessary. All-wheel drive and extraelectric power are always available regardlessof the battery's charging status.
Information in the instrument panel
When driving in Hybrid mode, a hybrid gauge will be displayed in the instrument panel. Thegauge will indicate the amount of electricalcurrent required when the driver depressesthe accelerator pedal. The marker between thelightning and the drop shows how much cur-rent is available.
The instrument panel gauge when both the electric motor and the combustion engine are being used.
The instrument panel also shows how much current is being restoredto the battery (regenerated) duringlight braking.

Individual
Customizes drive mode to personal prefer- ences.
Select one of the drive modes as a basis andadjust the settings to achieve your preferreddriving characteristics. These settings will bestored in your driver profile. Individual drive mode is only available if it has been activated in the center display.

Using the electric or combustion engine
An advanced control system determines the distance that the vehicle can be driven on thecombustion engine, electric motor, or both atthe same time. Its primary function is to use the motor/engine and the current available in the hybrid batteryas efficiently as possible based on the charac-teristics of the various drive modes and thepower output requested by the driver bypressing the accelerator pedal. In certain cases, temporary limitations in the system or mandatory functions to help main- tain a low overall emissions level may result in greater use of the combustion engine.

Changing drive mode Select the drive mode that is adapted to the current driving conditions. The drive mode is changed using the control in the tunnel console.
Keep in mind that not all drive modes are available in all situations. To change drive mode:
1. Press the
DRIVE MODE control.
> A pop-up menu will appear in the cen- ter display.
2. Roll the wheel upward or downward to the desired drive mode. 3. Press the drive mode control or tap its
button in the center display to confirm the selection.

Leveling control * and suspension
Self-leveling and suspension functions are controlled automatically.
Shock absorbers (Four-C)On vehicles equipped with Four-C, the shock absorbers are adapted to the selected drivemode and the current vehicle speed. Theshock absorbers are normally set to help opti- mize comfort and are adjusted continuouslyaccording to the road surface and the vehicle'sacceleration, braking and cornering.
Manually adjustable shock absorbers
*The suspension on Polestar Engineered* vehi-
cles can be manually adjusted. There are threerecommended modes: Performance,engineered and Comfort.
Performance mode
In Performance mode, the vehicle's suspen- sion feels stiffer.
Engineered, factory setting
Engineered is designed for daily driving.
Comfort mode
In Comfort mode, the vehicle's suspension feels softer.

Hold and Charge functions
In certain situations, it can be useful to con- trol the hybrid battery's charge level while driving. This is possible with the
Hold andCharge functions.Hold and Charge are available in all drive
modes. The functions will switch off if Puredrive mode is activated.
Function buttons for Hold and ChargeThe functions can be activated in the center display's Function view.
Hold
Battery level sustained for later use.
This function retains the charge in the hybrid batteryfor the electric motor andsaves available electrical cur-
rent for use at a later time, such as when driv-ing in an urban area or residential neighbor-hood. The vehicle will function as in normal hybrid driving with a discharged battery - in additionto reusing energy from e.g. regenerative brak-ing, the combustion engine will be used morefrequently to maintain the charge in the bat-tery.
Charge
Engine charges hybrid battery.
This function charges the hybrid battery with the helpof the combustion engine forincreased use of the electric
motor at a later time.

Refueling must be done within approxi- mately 15 minutes of opening the fuel fillerdoor. After this time, the valve opened bypushing the button for opening the fuelfiller door will close and it will no longer bepossible to refuel without the pump's noz-zle switching off. If the valve is closed before refueling is complete - press the button again and waituntil the driver display shows the message

The fuel tank is equipped with a fuel filling system without a cover.
Refueling the vehicle at a service station
It is important to insert the pump's nozzle past both of the two flaps in the fuel filler pipe before beginningfueling.
Instructions for fueling:
1. Turn off the engine and open the fuel filler door.
NOTE
Refueling must be done within approxi- mately 15 minutes of opening the fuel fillerdoor. After this time, the valve opened bypushing the button for opening the fuelfiller door will close and it will no longer bepossible to refuel without the pump's noz-zle switching off. If the valve is closed before refueling is complete - press the button again and waituntil the driver display shows the message
Fuel tank Ready for refueling.
2. Select a fuel approved for use in the vehi-cle. For more information on approved fuels, see the section on “Fuel”.
3. Insert the pump's nozzle into the fuel filler pipe's opening. There are two flaps justinside the fuel filler pipe and the pump'snozzle must push both of these flaps openbefore fuel can be added.

Overheating of engine and transmission
In certain driving conditions, such as driving in mountainous areas or hot weather, there isa risk of the engine or transmission overheat-ing, especially when carrying heavy loads.
Engine power may be temporarily limited.
Remove any auxiliary lights mounted in front of the grille when driving in hotweather.
If the temperature in the engine's coolingsystem becomes too high, a warning sym-bol will appear in the instrument panel along with the message

safely. Pull over to a safe location and let
the engine idle for a few minutes to cool down.

If the transmission begins to overheat, an alternative gear shifting program will beselected. An integrated protective functionwill also be activated, the warning symbolwill illuminate and the message

Stop safely, wait for cooling will be dis- played in the instrument panel. Follow the recommendations given by reducingspeed or stopping the vehicle safely andletting the engine idle for a few minutes tolet the transmission cool.
If the vehicle begins to overheat, the airconditioning may be temporarily switchedoff.
After a prolonged period of driving indemanding conditions, do not turn off theengine immediately after stopping.
NOTE
It is normal for the engine's cooling fan to operate for a short time after the engine isswitched off.

Battery drain
The electrical functions in the vehicle drain the battery to varying degrees. Avoid usingignition mode II when the engine is switched
off. Use ignition mode I instead, as this uses
less electrical current.
Note that certain accessories may also drain power from the electrical system. Do not usefunctions that use a lot of electrical currentwhen the engine is turned off. Examples ofsuch functions are: blower
headlights
windshield wipers
audio system (especially at high volume).
If the starter battery voltage is low, a message is shown in the driver display. The vehicle'senergy-saving function will then turn off orreduce certain functions, such as the blowerand/or the audio system.
–Charge the battery by starting the engine and let it run for at least 15 minutes (driv-ing charges the battery faster than lettingthe engine idle).

Jump starting using another battery If the start battery is discharged, current from another battery can be used to start the vehi-cle.
Jumper cable connecting points.
CAUTION
The charging point of the vehicle is only intended for jump starting the vehicle inquestion. The charging point is notintended for jump-starting another vehicle.Using the charging point to start anothervehicle could cause a fuse to blow, whichwould cause the charging point to stopworking.
If a fuse has blown, 12 V Battery Fuse failure
Service required will be displayed in the instrument panel. Volvo recommends contact- ing an authorized Volvo workshop. To avoid short circuits or other damage, the following steps are recommended when jumpstarting the battery:

Trailer Stability Assist

Trailer Stability Assist (TSA 11
) is a function
designed to help stabilize a vehicle that is towing a trailer when the vehicle and trailerhave begun to sway. The function is part of the Electronic Stability Control system ESC 12
.
Reasons for swayingA vehicle towing a trailer may begin to sway for various reasons. Normally this only occursat high speeds. However, if the trailer is over-loaded or unevenly distributed, e.g. too farback, there is a risk of swaying even at lowspeeds. Swaying may be caused by factors such as:
The vehicle and trailer are hit by a sudden, strong crosswind.
The vehicle and trailer are traveling on anuneven road or over a bump.
Sudden movements of the steering wheel.
Once swaying has begun, it can be difficult orimpossible to stop it. This makes the vehicleand trailer difficult to control and there is a riskof swerving into oncoming traffic or driving offthe road.
Trailer Stability Assist functionTrailer Stability Assist continuously monitorsthe vehicle's movements, particularly lateral movements. If swaying is detected, the brakesare applied individually on the front wheels,which has a stabilizing effect on the vehicleand trailer. This is often enough to enable thedriver to regain control of the vehicle. If the Trailer Stability Assist function's first attempt is not adequate to stop the swayingmotion, the brakes are applied on all wheelsand engine power is temporarily reduced. Asthe swaying motion begins to decrease andthe vehicle and trailer have once againbecome stable, TSA stops regulating thebrakes/engine power and the driver regainscontrol of the vehicle.
NOTE
Trailer Stability Assist is deactivated if the driver selects the sport mode by deactivat- ing
ESC in the center display's menu sys-
tem.
Trailer Stability Assist may not intervene if the driver tries to compensate for the swayingmotion by moving the steering wheel rapidly,because the system will then not be able todetermine if it is the trailer or the driver caus-ing the swaying.
