1. Put the ignition in mode
0.
2. Make sure the auxiliary battery (the bat- tery used to jump start the discharged battery) has a voltage of 12 volts.
3. If the auxiliary battery is in another vehicle, turn off that vehicle's engine and makesure that the vehicles are not touchingeach other.
4. Clamp the red jumper cable onto the auxil- iary battery's positive (+) terminal (1).
CAUTION
Connect the jump cable carefully to pre- vent short circuits with other componentsin the engine compartment.
5. Fold back the cover over your vehicle'spositive (+) jump start terminal (2).
6. Clamp the other end of the red jumper cable to your vehicle's positive (+) jump start terminal (2).
7. Clamp the black jumper cable onto the auxiliary battery's negative (-) terminal (3).
8. Clamp the other end of the black jumper cable to your vehicle's negative (-) groundpoint (4). 9. Make sure the jumper cables are securely
attached to help prevent sparks whilejump starting.
10. Start the engine of the assisting vehicle and let it run for a few minutes at a higheridling speed than normal, about1500 rpm.
11. Start your vehicle's engine. If the engine does not start, allow an additional 10minutes of charging time and then try tostart the engine again.
NOTE
When the engine is started under normal conditions, the vehicle's electrical drivemotor is prioritized – the gasoline engineremains off. This means that after the startknob has been turned clockwise, the elec-tric motor has "started" and the vehicle isready to be driven. Start of the electricmotor is indicated by the indicator lights onthe instrument panel going out and its pre-selected theme illuminating.
CAUTION
Do not touch the connections between the cable and the vehicle during the startattempt. Risk of sparking.
12. Remove the jumper cables in the reverseorder ‒ first the black cables and then the
red cables. Make sure that none of the clamps of the black jumper cables come into contactwith either vehicle's positive (+) jump startterminals or either of the red jumpercable's connected clamps.

Battery fluid contains sulfuric acid. Donot allow battery fluid to contact eyes,skin, fabrics or painted surfaces.
If contact occurs, flush the affectedarea immediately with water. Obtain

Trailer Stability Assist (TSA 11
) is a function
designed to help stabilize a vehicle that is towing a trailer when the vehicle and trailerhave begun to sway. The function is part of the Electronic Stability Control system ESC 12
.
Reasons for swayingA vehicle towing a trailer may begin to sway for various reasons. Normally this only occursat high speeds. However, if the trailer is over-loaded or unevenly distributed, e.g. too farback, there is a risk of swaying even at lowspeeds. Swaying may be caused by factors such as:
The vehicle and trailer are hit by a sudden, strong crosswind.
The vehicle and trailer are traveling on anuneven road or over a bump.
Sudden movements of the steering wheel.
Once swaying has begun, it can be difficult orimpossible to stop it. This makes the vehicleand trailer difficult to control and there is a riskof swerving into oncoming traffic or driving offthe road.
Trailer Stability Assist functionTrailer Stability Assist continuously monitorsthe vehicle's movements, particularly lateral movements. If swaying is detected, the brakesare applied individually on the front wheels,which has a stabilizing effect on the vehicleand trailer. This is often enough to enable thedriver to regain control of the vehicle. If the Trailer Stability Assist function's first attempt is not adequate to stop the swayingmotion, the brakes are applied on all wheelsand engine power is temporarily reduced. Asthe swaying motion begins to decrease andthe vehicle and trailer have once againbecome stable, TSA stops regulating thebrakes/engine power and the driver regainscontrol of the vehicle.
NOTE
Trailer Stability Assist is deactivated if the driver selects the sport mode by deactivat- ing
ESC in the center display's menu sys-
tem.
Trailer Stability Assist may not intervene if the driver tries to compensate for the swayingmotion by moving the steering wheel rapidly,because the system will then not be able todetermine if it is the trailer or the driver caus-ing the swaying.

Checking trailer lights
When connecting a trailer, make sure that all of the lights on the trailer are functioningbefore starting to drive.
Trailer turn signals and brake lightsIf one or more of the turn signals or brake lights on the trailer is not working, a symboland message will be displayed in the instru-ment panel. The other lights on the trailermust be checked manually by the driver beforethe vehicle is driven.

If any of the trailer's turn signal lights is not working, the turn signal symbol in the instru-ment panel will also flash more quickly thannormal.
Trailer rear fog lightWhen a trailer is connected, the vehicle's rearfog light may not illuminate and rear fog lightfunctionality is instead transferred to the trailer. If this is the case, check to see if thetrailer is equipped with a rear fog light beforeactivating the vehicle's fog lights when drivingwith a trailer to help ensure safe operation.

Checking trailer lights *
Automatic check
When the trailer has been connected to the vehicle's electrical system, its lights can bechecked by automatically activating them.This function helps the driver check that thetrailer's lights are functioning correctly beforestarting to drive. In order to perform this check, the vehicle must be switched off.
1. When a trailer is connected to the towbar,
the message
Automatic Trailer Lamp
Check will appear in the instrument panel.
2. Acknowledge the message by pressing the O button on the right-side steering
wheel keypad.
> The light check will begin.
3. Get out of the vehicle to perform the check.
> All of the lights on the trailer will beginflashing, and then illuminate separately one at a time.
4. Visually check that all of the trailer's lights are functioning correctly.
5. After a short time, all of the trailer's lights will start flashing again.
> The light check is completed.
Disabling the automatic check
The automatic light check can be disabled in the center display. 1.Tap
Settings in the Top view.
2. Tap
My CarLights and Lighting.
3. Deselect
Automatic Trailer Lamp
Check.
Manual check
If the automatic check has been disabled, the check can be started manually. 1. Tap
Settings in the Top view.
2. Tap
My CarLights and Lighting.
3. Select
Manual Trailer Lamp Check.
> The light check will begin. Get out of the vehicle to perform the check.

Towing using a towline
This section refers to one vehicle being towed behind another using a towline.
Never attempt to tow a Twin Engine vehicle behind another vehicle as this could damagethe electric motor. The vehicle must instead belifted onto a tow truck and transported with allfour wheels on the bed or lifting platform ofthe truck (no wheels may touch the road).
Towing another vehicleTowing another vehicle requires a lot of power - use the Constant AWD drive mode. This
helps charge the hybrid battery and improve the vehicle's driving and roadholding characte-ristics. Before towing another vehicle, check applica- ble speed limit regulations.
Jump startingNever attempt to tow the vehicle to start theengine, as this could damage the electricmotor. Use an auxiliary battery if the start bat-tery's charge level is so low that the enginecannot be started.
CAUTION
Attempts to tow-start the vehicle could cause damage to the electrical drive motorand three-way catalytic converter.

How can I prepare for my next OBD II
emission inspection?
If your Check Engine (MIL) light is lit or was lit but went out without service, haveyour vehicle diagnosed and, if necessary,serviced by a qualified Volvo technician.
If you recently had service for a lit CheckEngine light, or if you had service thatrequired disconnecting the battery, aperiod of driving is necessary to bring theOBD II system to "ready" for inspection.Two half-hour trips of mixed stop-and-go/highway driving are typically needed toallow OBD II to reach readiness. YourVolvo retailer can provide you with moreinformation on planning a trip.
Maintain your vehicle in accordance withyour vehicle's maintenance schedule.
Owner maintenancePeriodic maintenance requirements and inter-vals are described in your vehicle's Warrantyand Service Records Information booklet. The following points can be carried out between the normally scheduled maintenance services.
Each time the vehicle is refueled:
Check the engine oil level.
Clean the windshield, windshield wipers, headlights, and taillights.
Monthly:
Check cold tire pressure in all tires. Inspect the tires for wear.
Check that engine coolant and other fluidlevels are between the indicated "min"and "max" markings.
Clean interior glass surfaces with a glasscleaner and soft paper towels.
Wipe driver information displays with asoft cloth.
Visually inspect battery terminals for cor-rosion. Corrosion may indicate a loose ter-minal connector, or a battery near the endof its useful service life. Consult your Volvoretailer for additional information.
As needed:
Wash the vehicle, including the undercarriage, to reduce wear that can be caused by abuildup of dirt, and corrosion that can becaused by salt residues. Clean leaves and twigs from air intake vents at the base of the windshield, and from other pla-ces where they may collect.

Replacing bulbs
This vehicle is equipped with only LED 16
lights, which means it does not have any replaceable bulbs. Contact a workshop 15
if
you experience any problems with the light- ing. If there is a problem with an LED 16
light, the
entire lamp unit will normally need to be replaced.
NOTE
For information on lights not mentioned in the Owner's Manual, contact a Volvodealer or a certified Volvo service techni-cian.
NOTE
Exterior lighting such as headlights and taillights may develop temporary conden-sation on the inside of the lens. This is nor-mal. All exterior lighting is designed toresist this. Condensation is normally ven-ted out of the lamp housing once the lighthas been lit for some period of time.
NOTE
Bulbs for active curve lighting * contain
traces of mercury and should therefore always be submitted to a certified Volvoservice technician.

Wash using a sponge, car washing deter- gent and plenty of lukewarm water.
Clean the wiper blades with lukewarmsoap solution or car washing detergent.
Dry the vehicle using a clean, soft chamoisor a squeegee. Try not to let drops ofwater dry in strong sunlight. This couldcause water drying stains that may needto be polished out.
In areas with heavy industrial emissions,more frequent washing of the vehicle'sexterior is recommended.
Tar spots from asphalt may remain evenafter washing. Use a tar remover toremove these spots.
WARNING
Always entrust engine washing to a work- shop. If the engine is hot, there is a risk offire.
CAUTION
Dirty headlights do not work as well. Clean them regularly, e.g. when refueling. Do not use corrosive cleaners. Use water and a non-abrasive sponge.
NOTE

Automatic car washes
The vehicle should be washed as soon as it becomes dirty. The longer the dirt remains,the more difficult it will be to keep the vehicleclean. It could also lead to paint damage.
Washing your vehicle in an automatic car wash is a fast and easy way to keep your vehi-cle clean, but it does not reach all areas of thevehicle. Volvo recommends washing yourvehicle by hand or supplementing automaticcar washes with a hand wash.
NOTE
Volvo recommends not washing the vehi- cle in an automatic car wash during thefirst few months; the paintwork on newvehicles takes some time to fully harden.
CAUTION
Before driving the vehicle into a car wash, deactivate the Automatic Braking whenStationary and Automatic Parking BrakeApplication functions. If the functions arenot deactivated, the brake system willseize when the vehicle is stationary and thevehicle will not be able to roll.
CAUTION
For automatic car washes in which the vehicle is pulled forward on rolling wheels:
1. Before washing the vehicle, make sure that the automatic rain sensor is deac- tivated. If it is not deactivated andinadvertently starts, the wiper armscould be damaged.
2. To help prevent damage from the auto- matic car wash machinery, make surethat the door mirrors are folded in,antennas retracted or removed, andany auxiliary lights secured.
3. Drive into the automatic car wash.
4. Turn off the "Automatic Braking when Stationary" function using the
but-
ton in the tunnel console.
5. Turn off the "Automatic Parking Brake Application" function in the center dis- play's Top view.
6. Turn off the engine by turning the start knob in the tunnel console clockwise.Hold the knob in position for at least2 seconds.
The vehicle is now ready for the automaticcar wash.
CAUTION
The system will automatically change to P
mode if the above steps are not followed. In P mode, the wheels are locked, which
they should not be when the vehicle isbeing washed in a car wash.
NOTE
Keep in mind that if the vehicle is equipped with the keyless locking and unlocking function *, the doors and tailgate/trunk lid
may open when washing the vehicle if the remote key is within range.

The wiper blades will also move out of the service position if:
The windshield wipers are turned on.
The windshield washers are turned on.
The rain sensor is activated.
The vehicle begins moving.
CAUTION
If the wiper arms in service position are raised from the windshield, they must befolded back against the windscreen beforeactivating wiping, washing or rain sensoras well as before departure. This is to pre-vent scratching the paint on the hood.

Filling washer fluid Washer fluid is used to help keep the head- lights and windshield clean. Washer fluidcontaining anti-freeze should be used in verycold weather (below-freezing temperatures).
Fill washer fluid into the reservoir with the blue cover. The reservoir is used for both the windshield washer and the headlight washer

Recommended grade: Washer fluid recom-
mended by Volvo, with frost protection during cold weather and temperatures below the freezing point.
CAUTION
Use Volvo's original washer fluid or an equivalent fluid with the recommended pHvalue between 6 and 8, diluted as recom-mended, e.g. in a 1:1 solution with pH-neu-tral water.
CAUTION
Use washer fluid with anti-freeze when temperatures are below the freezing pointto help keep the pump, reservoir and hosesfrom freezing.
