Volvo recommends that children always be properly restrained in appropriate child restraints in the rear seats.Do not assume that the passenger's side front airbag is dis-abled unless the PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicator lampis lit. Make sure the child restraint is properly installed. Ifthere is any doubt as to the status of the passenger's sidefront airbag, move the child restraint to the rear seat.
The OWS is designed to enable (may inflate) the passenger's side front airbag in the eventof a collision anytime the system senses that aperson of adult size is sitting properly in thefront passenger's seat. The PASSENGER AIR-BAG OFF indicator lamp will be off andremain off. If a person of adult size is sitting in the front passenger's seat, but the PASSENGER AIR- BAG OFF indicator lamp is on, it is possiblethat the person isn't sitting properly in theseat. If this happens:
Turn the vehicle off and ask the person toplace the backrest in an upright position.
Have the person sit upright in the seat,centered on the seat cushion, with theperson's legs comfortably extended.
Restart the vehicle and have the personremain in this position for about twominutes. This will allow the system todetect that person and enable the pas-senger's frontal airbag.
If the PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indica-tor lamp remains on even after this, theperson should be advised to ride in therear seat.
This indicates limitations in OWS classifica-tion capability. Climate comfort retaining function
The climate in the passenger compartment can be maintained when the vehicle isparked, e.g. if the engine is turned off but thedriver or passengers remain in the vehicle.
This function can only be direct-started. The function utilizes several of the vehicle's systems:
Residual heat from the engine is used tohelp heat the passenger compartment to acomfortable temperature.
In warm weather, the ventilation systemcools the passenger compartment byblowing air in from outside.
NOTE
Climate comfort maintenance will be deac- tivated if the vehicle is locked from the out-side in order to avoid using residual engineheat unnecessarily. This function isintended to be used to maintain climatecomfort when the driver or a passengerremains in the vehicle after the engine isturned off.

Starting and switching off the climate retaining function whenparking
The climate retaining function maintains the climate settings in the vehicle after theengine has been switched off. The functioncan be activated in the center display.
1. Tap the symbol in the center of the climate bar to open Climate view in the center dis- play.
2. Select the
Parking climate tab.

Keep climate comfort.
> The climate comfort retaining function will be activated/deactivated and the button light will go on/off.
NOTE
Maintained climate comfort is not possible when there is not sufficient residual engineheat to maintain the climate settings in thepassenger compartment, or if the outsidetemperature is above approximately 20 °C(68 °F).
NOTE

The driver should be aware that if condi- tions suddenly change when using PassingAssistance, the function may implement anundesired acceleration in certain condi-tions. Some situations should be avoided, e.g. if: the vehicle is approaching an exit in the same direction as passing would nor-mally occur

Park Assist Camera *
Blind sectors
There are "blind" sectors between the cameras' fields of vision.
With Park Assist Camera's 360° view *
selected, objects/obstacles may not be detected if they are located in the "joints"where the edges of the individual cameraviews meet.
WARNING
Even if it seems as though only a fairly small section of the screen image isobstructed, this may mean that a relativelylarge sector is hidden and obstacles theremay not be detected until they are verynear the vehicle.
Defective camera
If a camera sector is dark and contains this symbol, thisindicates that the camera isnot functioning properly. See the following illustration for an example.
The vehicle's left-side camera is malfunctioning.
A dark camera sector may also be displayed in the following situations, but without the
defective camera symbol: a door is open
the trunk lid is open
a rearview mirror is folded in
Lighting conditions
The camera image is automatically adjusted according to the current lighting conditions.This means that the brightness and quality of the image may vary slightly. Poor lighting con-ditions may result in reduced image quality.
Rear Park Assist Camera
NOTE
A bike carrier and other accessories moun- ted on the rear of the vehicle can obscurethe camera's view.

In order for the camera and radar sensor to function properly, they must be kept free ofdirt, ice, snow, etc. and should be washedregularly with water and car washing deter-gent.
NOTE
Dirt, ice and snow covering the sensors could cause false warnings, reduced func-tion, or no function.
Location of the Park Assist sensors.
Location of rear radar sensors. Keep the marked area clean (on both the left and right sides of the vehicle).
For best possible performance, it is impor- tant to keep the areas in front of the sen-sors clean.
Do not attach any objects, tape or decalsto the surface of the sensors.
Clean the camera lenses regularly usinglukewarm water and car washing deter-gent. Wash gently to avoid scratching thelens.
CAUTION
Only a workshop may perform mainte- nance on driver support components – anauthorized Volvo workshop is recom-mended.

Charging cable residual current device The charging cable has a circuit breaker that helps protect against current overloads andthermal overheating.
WARNING
Charging the hybrid battery may only be done from approved, grounded 120/240 Voutlets (AC, alternating current). If the elec-trical circuit or electrical socket's capacityis not known, let a licensed electricianinspect the electrical circuit's capacity.Using a charge level that exceeds the elec-trical circuit's or electrical outlet's capacitymay start a fire or damage the electrical cir-cuit.
WARNING
The charging cable's residual current breaker helps protect the vehicle'scharging system but cannot ensurethat an current overload will neveroccur.
Never use visibly worn or damagedelectrical sockets. Doing so could leadto fires or serious injury.
Never connect the charging cable to anextension cord.
Maintenance or replacement of thehybrid battery may only be performedby a trained and qualified Volvo servicetechnician.
If the charging cable's residual current device
is triggered, the blue indicator light in thecharging module will not illuminate when thecharging cable is plugged into an electricaloutlet (or the red warning light will glowsteadily). Have the outlet checked by alicensed electrician or try using another walloutlet.

If the warning symbols for both brake fault and ABS fault are lit simultaneously, theremay be a fault in the brake system.
If the brake fluid reservoir level is nor- mal when this occurs, drive carefully tothe nearest workshop to have thebrake system checked - an authorizedVolvo workshop is recommended.
If the brake fluid has fallen below theMIN
level in the brake fluid reservoir,
the vehicle should not be driven untilthe brake fluid has been filled. The rea-son for the brake fluid loss must bechecked.

Brake Assist System The brake enhancing system, (BAS 3
), helps
increase braking force and can thereby reduce braking distance.
The system monitors the driver's braking hab- its and increases braking force when neces-sary. Braking force can be increased up to thepoint at which the ABS intervenes. The func-tion is deactivated when pressure on the brakepedal is decreased.

Braking on wet roads
Prolonged driving in heavy rain without brak- ing may cause braking effect to be slightlydelayed the first time the brakes are applied.
This may also occur after washing the vehicle. It will then be necessary to apply greater pres-sure to the brake pedal. You should thereforemaintain a greater distance to the vehicleahead. Firmly apply the brakes after washing the vehicle or driving on wet roads. This helpswarm up the brake discs, enabling them to drymore quickly and protecting them against cor-rosion. Consider the current traffic situationwhen braking.

Braking on salted roads
When driving on salted roads, a layer of salt may form on the brake discs and brake pads.
This could increase stopping distance. Main- tain an extra large safety distance to the vehi-cle ahead. Make sure to also:
Apply the brakes from time to time to helpremove salt. Make sure braking does notpose a risk to any other road users.
Gently apply the brakes when you havefinished driving and before driving again.

Maintenance of the brake system
Regularly check the brake system compo- nents for wear.
To keep the vehicle as safe and reliable as possible, follow the Volvo service schedulespecified in the Warranty and MaintenanceRecords Information booklet. After replacingbrake pads and brake discs, braking effect isnot adapted until they are "broken in" by driv-ing a few hundred kilometers (miles). Com-pensate for the reduced braking effect byapplying greater pressure to the brake pedal.Volvo recommends only using brake padsapproved for your Volvo.
CAUTION
The brake system's components should be regularly checked for wear. Contact a workshop for advice on how to do this or let a workshop perform theinspection - an authorized Volvo workshopis recommended.

Parking brake
The parking brake helps keep the vehicle sta- tionary by mechanically locking two wheels.
The parking brake controls are located in the tunnel console between the seats.
When the electric parking brake is being applied, a faint sound can be heard from thebrake's electric motor. This sound can also beheard during the automatic function check ofthe parking brake. If the vehicle is stationary when the parking brake is activated, it will only be applied to therear wheels. If it is activated while the vehicleis moving, the normal brakes will be used onall four wheels. Braking will be transferred toonly the rear wheels when the vehicle isalmost stopped.
