Private Locking The trunk lid and rear seat backrests can be locked using the private locking function, e.g.when the vehicle is left at a workshop or witha valet. This function prevents the trunk lidfrom being opened and locks the rear seatbackrests in the upright position.
The function button for pri- vate locking is located in thecenter display's Functionview. Depending on the cur-rent status of the lock,
Private Locking Unlockedor Private Locking Lockedwill be displayed.

Activating and deactivating private locking
Private locking is activated using the function button in the center display and a PIN code.
NOTE
For the valet lock function to be activated the car must be in at least ignition mode I.
Two codes are used for private locking:
A security code, which is created the first time the function is used.
A PIN code, which is changed each timethe function is activated.
Entering security code before initial
use
The first time the function is used, a securitycode must be selected. This code can then beused to deactivate private locking if theselected PIN code has been forgotten or lost.The security code functions as a PUK (secur-ity) code for all PIN codes used for privatelocking. Save the security code in a safe place. To create a security code:
1. Tap the button for private locking in Func-
tion view.
> A pop-up window will appear.
2. Enter the desired security code and press
Confirm.
> The security code is saved. The private locking function is now ready for activa- tion.

NOTE
The rear seat must be in the upright posi- tion when private locking is activated inorder for the seats to lock.

2. Enter the code you would like to use to unlock the trunk lid and rear seats and tap
Confirm.
> The trunk lid and rear seats will lock. A green indicator light will illuminate next to the button in Function view to con-firm locked status.
Deactivating private locking1. Tap the button for private locking in Func- tion view.
> A pop-up window will appear. 2. Enter the code used for locking and tap
Confirm.
> The trunk lid and rear seats will unlock. The green indicator light next to the button in Function view will go out toconfirm unlocked status.
Forgotten PIN codeIf you have forgotten your PIN code or enteredit incorrectly more than three times, the secur-ity code can be used to deactivate privatelocking. If the vehicle is unlocked using Volvo On Call or the Volvo On Call app, private locking willbe automatically deactivated.
Forgotten security code
If you have forgotten your security code, con- tact an authorized Volvo retailer for assistancedeactivating private locking.

Alarm The alarm emits sound and light signals if anyone without a valid remote key attemptsto break into the vehicle or interferes with thestart battery or alarm siren.
When armed, the alarm will be triggered if:
the hood, trunk lid or any door is opened.
a battery cable is disconnected.
the alarm siren is disconnected.
Alarm signalsThe following occurs if the alarm is triggered:
A siren will sound for 30 seconds or until the alarm is turned off.
The hazard warning flashers will flash for5 minutes or until the alarm is turned off.
If the reason the alarm was triggered is notrectified, the alarm cycle will repeat up to 10 times 15

Alarm indicator
A red indicator light on the dashboard shows the status of the alarm:
Indicator off - the alarm is disarmed.
Indicator flashes once every two seconds -the alarm is armed.
The indicator flashes quickly after thealarm has been disabled for up to30 seconds or until the ignition is put in

mode – the alarm has been triggered.
In the event of alarm system failureIf a problem is detected in the alarmsystem, a symbol and the message

Do not attempt to repair or alter any of the components in the alarm system yourself.Any such attempt could affect the termsand conditions of your insurance policy.

The alarm is armed when the vehicle is locked.

Disarming the alarm without a functioning
remote key
The vehicle can be unlocked and disarmed even if the remote key is not functioning, e.g. ifthe battery is discharged.
1. Open the driver's door using the detacha- ble key blade.
> This will trigger the alarm.
Location of the backup key reader in the cup holder.
2. Place the remote key on the key symbol inthe backup reader in the tunnel console's cup holder. 3. Turn the start knob clockwise and release.
> The alarm will be disarmed.
Turning off a triggered alarm–Press the unlock button on the remote key or put the ignition into mode I by turning
the start knob clockwise and then releas-ing it.
Automatically arming and disarming the alarm
Automatically arming the alarm helps prevent inadvertently leaving the vehicle without alarmprotection. If the vehicle is unlocked using the remote key (and the alarm is disarmed) but none of thedoors or trunk lid is opened within twominutes, the alarm will be automaticallyrearmed. The vehicle will also re-lock. On some markets, the alarm will be automati- cally armed following a slight delay after thedriver's door has been opened and closedwithout being locked. Driver Alert Control
The Driver Alert Control (DAC) function is designed to help alert the driver to erraticbehavior, e.g. if the driver is distracted orshowing signs of fatigue.
The objective of DAC is to detect slowly dete- riorating driving behavior and is primarilyintended to be used on major roads. The func-tion is not intended for use in city traffic. DAC is activated when the vehicle's speed exceeds 65 km/h (40 mph) and remainsactive as long as speeds are above 60 km/h(37 mph).
DAC detects the vehicle's position in the traffic lane.
A camera monitors the traffic lane's marker lines and compares the direction of the roadwith the driver's movements of the steeringwheel.
The vehicle is moving erratically in the lane.
If driving behavior becomes considerably erratic, thedriver will be alerted by thissymbol in the instrumentpanel, an audible signal and the message
Time for a
break.
If the vehicle is equipped with Sensus Navigation * and the Rest Stop Guidancefunction is activated, suggestions will also be provided for suitable places to take a break. The warning will be repeated after a short time if driving behavior does not improve.
WARNING
Driver Alert Control must not be used to extend a period of driving. The drivershould plan in breaks at regular intervalsand make sure they are well rested.
WARNING
An alarm from Driver Alert Control should be taken very seriously since a sleepy driveris often not aware of their own condition. If the alarm sounds or you feel fatigued:
Stop the vehicle safely as soon as pos- sible and rest.
Studies have shown that it is just as dan- gerous to drive while tired as it is to driveunder the influence of alcohol or otherstimulants.

Park - P
Gear selector and P position overview
Park is activated using the P button located
next to the gear selector. In P mode, the transmission is mechanically
locked.Select P when the vehicle is parked or when
starting the engine. The vehicle must be sta- tionary when Park is selected. To move to another gear from Park, the brake pedal must be depressed and the ignition inmode II.
When parking – apply the parking brake before shifting to Park.
WARNING
Always apply the parking brake when park- ing on an incline. Selecting a gear or put-ting the automatic transmission in P may
not be sufficient to keep the vehicle sta-tionary in all situations.
NOTE
The gear selector must be in position P in
order to lock the vehicle and set the alarm.

if the ignition is switched off while
D or R
is selected.
if the driver unbuckles the seat belt and opens the driver's door while the vehicle isrunning with the gear selector in a gearother than

To park a vehicle with an unbuckled seat beltand open door – end P mode by shifting to R
or D again.
The system will not automatically shift to P if
the ignition is switched off while the gearselector is in the neutral position (N). This is tomake it possible to wash the vehicle in anautomatic car wash in which the vehicle ispulled forward on rolling wheels.
Reverse - R
Select R when backing up. The vehicle must
be stationary when Reverse is selected.
Neutral - N
No gear is selected and the engine can be started. Apply the parking brake if the vehicleis stationary with the gear selector in N.
To move the gear selector from N to another
gear, the brake pedal must be depressed andthe ignition in mode II.
D drive mode
D is the normal driving gear position. The
transmission shifts up or down automatically depending on acceleration and speed. The vehicle must be stationary when the gear selector is moved from R to D.

Once HomeLink ®
is programmed, it can be
used instead of the separate remote controls.
Press and hold the programming button. The garage door, gate, alarm system, etc. will beactivated (this may take several seconds). Ifthe button is held down for more than 20 sec-onds, reprogramming will begin. The indicatorlight will glow steadily or flash when the but-ton has been pressed. The original remotecontrols may be used concurrently with HomeLink ®
if desired.
NOTE
When the ignition is switched off, HomeLink ®
will be active for at least
7 minutes.
NOTE

cannot be used if the vehicle is
