CAUTION
When in the loading position, the cargo com- partment cover can obstruct visibility to therear. Make sure that the cargo compartmentcover is fully extended or fully retracted duringdriving.
Retracting the cover
1. From the fully opened position:
Lift the cover's handle and pull it rearward to release the cover's attaching pins from thegrooves. Let the cover retract. From the partially retracted position: Grasp the handle and pull the cover out of the groves to the fully open position. Lift thehandle and pull it rearward to release thecover's attaching pins from the grooves. Letthe cover retract.
2. Let the cover retract with its attaching pins above the side panels until it stops in thefully retracted position.

Installing and removing the steel
cargo grid *
The steel cargo grid prevents loads or pets in the cargo compartment from being thrown for-ward into the passenger compartment.
For safety reasons, the steel grid must always be installed and secured correctly.
WARNING
Under no circumstances may a person be in the cargo compartment when the vehicle ismoving. Heavy braking or a collision couldlead to serious injury.
Installation
CAUTION
The steel cargo grid may only be used in the rear position (behind the rear seat) describedhere.
Before installing the steel grid, the existing plas- tic ceiling mounting consoles must be replacedwith steel consoles. Volvo recommends that theceiling consoles are only replaced by an author-ized Volvo workshop or retailer.
1. Fold down the rear seat backrests.
2. Make sure that the steel grid is facing the right direction. Lift the grid into the vehicle through one of the rear doors.
3. Position the grid's attachment points in theceiling consoles. The next step will be easier if two people hold the steel grid in the right position.

4. Screw the provided screw into place using
the provided 6 mm Allen wrench. Repeat on the other side. Recommended torque:20 Nm (15 ft-lb).
> Check to make sure the steel grid issecurely in place.
5. Return the backrest to the upright position. For more information on necessary tools and pro- cedures for installing/removing, see the assem-bly instructions provided with the steel grid.
CAUTION
The steel cargo grid cannot be folded up or down when a cargo compartment cover ismounted.

Installing and removing the cargo
net

The cargo net helps prevent objects in the cargo compartment from entering the passenger com-partment in the event of a sudden stop or hardbraking.
The cargo net is attached at four points.
For safety reasons, the cargo net must always be mounted and secured according to the followingdescription. The net is made of strong nylon weave and can be attached in two different locations in the vehi-cle:
• Rear mounting - behind the rear seats.
• Front mounting - behind the front seats.
WARNING
Objects in the cargo compartment must always be securely anchored, even with a cor-rectly installed cargo net.
Installing the cargo net
WARNING
All of the cargo net's upper consoles, hooks and straps must be securely mounted andattached before the net is used. Never use the net if it is damaged.
NOTE
With front mounting, the cargo net is most easily installed via a rear door.
1. Fold out the cargo net and make sure that
the upper rod folds out and locks into posi- tion.
2. Insert one of the net's hooks into the front or rear ceiling mounting point with the straplock facing you.

Data transfer between vehicle andworkshop over Wi-Fi
Volvo workshops have a designated Wi-Fi net- work for secure data transfer between your vehi-cle and the workshop. Your visit to the workshopwill be easier and more effective when diagnos-tics information and software can be transferredover the workshop's network.
When you arrive at the workshop, your technician can connect your vehicle to the workshop's Wi-Finetwork to perform troubleshooting and down-load software. For this type of communication,the vehicle only connects to the workshop's net-work. The vehicle can only be connected to thedesignated workshop networks, not to any othernetwork, e.g. your home network.
Manual connection to workshop Wi-FiManual connection is usually performed by aservice technician. Because the technician usesthe buttons on your remote key to connect thevehicle, it is important that you bring a key withbuttons when taking the vehicle in to a workshop.Pressing the lock button on the remote key threetimes will connect the vehicle to the workshop'sWi-Fi network. When the car is connected to a Wi-Fi network, the
symbol appears in the center display.
WARNING
The vehicle may not be driven when it is con- nected to the workshop's networks and sys-tems.

Opening and closing the hood To open the hood, pull the lever in the passen- ger compartment and then turn the handle underthe hood.
Opening the hood
Pull the lever near the pedals to release the hood from its fully closed position.
Swipe your hand from left to right under the hood, grasp the handle and move it up and tothe side to release the catch and lift thehood.
Warning - hood not closedWhen the hood is released, a warningsymbol and graphic will be displayed inthe instrument panel and an audiblesignal will sound. If the vehicle begins
to roll, the audible signal will be repeated severaltimes.
NOTE
If the warning symbol is illuminated or an audible warning signal sounds even thoughthe hood is securely closed, consult a work-shop - an authorized Volvo workshop is rec-ommended.
Closing the hood1. Press down the hood until it begins to close under its own weight.
2. When the hood reaches the catch at the handle in the front edge of the vehicle, press down on the hood to close it completely.
WARNING
Risk of injury! When closing, make sure that the hood is completely unobstructed and thatno one can be injured.
WARNING
Make sure the hood locks securely after clos- ing. It must audibly lock on both sides.

WARNING
Never drive with the hood open! If there are any indications while driving that the hood is not completely closed, stop imme-diately and close it securely.

Climate control system service Service and repairs on the air conditioning sys- tem should only be done by an authorized work-shop.
Troubleshooting and repairsThe air conditioning system contains a fluores- cent tracer substance. Ultraviolet light is used tosearch for leaks in the system. Volvo recommends contacting an authorized Volvo workshop.
Vehicles with R134a refrigerant
WARNING
The air conditioning system contains the refrigerant R134a under pressure. Serviceand repairs to the system should only be doneby an authorized workshop.

Replacing a windshield with head-
up display

Vehicles with a head-up display have a special type of windshield that meets the requirementsfor displaying projected information.
Volvo recommends contacting an authorized Volvo workshop for assistance replacing thewindshield. The correct type of replacementwindshield must be used in order for the head-updisplay to function properly.

Start battery
The vehicle has a single-pole electrical system that uses the chassis and engine mount as con-ductors. The start battery is used to start the electrical system and power the starter motor and otherelectrical equipment in the vehicle. The start battery should only be replaced by a workshop 17
.
The vehicle has a voltage-regulated alternating current generator. The starter battery is a 12 V battery, designed for the carbon dioxide reducing functions Start/Stopand regenerative charging, and to support thefunctionality of the car's different systems. The service life and performance of the start bat- tery are affected by factors such as driving style,driving conditions, climate, battery discharges,number of starts, etc.
• Never disconnect the start battery while theengine is running.
• Make sure the cables to the start battery arecorrectly connected and the clamps aresecurely tightened.
WARNING
•Batteries generate hydrogen gas, which is flammable and explosive.
• Do not connect the jumper cable to anypart of the fuel system or to any movingparts. Avoid touching hot manifolds.
• Battery fluid contains sulfuric acid. Do notallow battery fluid to contact eyes, skin,fabrics or painted surfaces.
• If contact occurs, flush the affected areaimmediately with water. Obtain medicalhelp immediately if eyes are affected.
• Never expose the battery to open flameor electric spark. Do not smoke near thebattery. Failure to follow the instructionsfor jump starting can lead to injury.

Inlay mats and floor matsRemove the inlay mats to clean the floor mats and inlay mats separately. Use a vacuum toremove dust and dirt. Each inlay mat is securedinto place with pins. Remove the inlay mat by grasping the inlay mat at each pin and lifting the mat straight up. Put the inlay mat back into place by pressing it in at each pin.

WARNING
• Never use more than one inlay mat at a time on the driver's floor. If any other typeof floor mat is used, remove the originalmat from the driver's seat floor beforedriving. All types of mats must be securelyanchored in the attachment points in thefloor. Make sure the floor mat does notimpede the movement of the brake pedalor accelerator pedal in any way, as thiscould be a serious safety hazard.
• Volvo's floor mats are specially manufac-tured for your vehicle. They must be prop-erly secured in the attachment points inthe floor to help ensure they cannot slideand become trapped under the pedals.
After vacuuming, a specially designed textilecleaning agent should be used to remove stainson floor mats. Floor mats should be cleaned withproducts recommended by Volvo retailers.

Leather upholstery *Volvo's leather upholstery is treated to protect its original appearance. Over time, sunlight, grease,dirt, etc. could break down the protective layer.This could result in scratches and cracking. Leather upholstery is a natural product that changes and acquires a beautiful patina overtime. Regular cleaning and treatments arerequired to preserve the qualities and color of theleather. Volvo offers a comprehensive product,Volvo Leather Care Kit/Wipes, for cleaning andtreating leather upholstery that, when used asdirected, preserves the leather's protective coa-ting. For best results, Volvo recommends cleaning and applying protective cream one to four times ayear (or more as needed). Volvo Leather Care Kit951 0251 and Volvo Leather Softener 9437429 are available for purchase at Volvo retailers.

Automatic car washes The vehicle should be washed as soon as it becomes dirty. This makes the vehicle easier toclean because dirt does not attach as strongly. Italso reduces the risk of scratches and keeps thevehicle looking new.
Automatic car washesAn automatic car wash is a fast and easy way to keep your vehicle clean, but it does not reach allareas of the vehicle. For best results, Volvo rec-ommends hand washing your vehicle or supple-menting automatic car washes with a hand wash.
NOTE
Volvo recommends not washing the vehicle in an automatic car wash during the first fewmonths; the paintwork on new vehicles takessome time to fully harden.
CAUTION
Before driving the vehicle into a car wash, deactivate the Automatic Braking when Sta-tionary and Automatic Parking Brake Applica-tion functions. If the functions are not deacti-vated, the brake system will seize when thevehicle is stationary and the vehicle will not beable to roll.
CAUTION
For automatic car washes in which the vehicle is pulled forward on rolling wheels:
1. Before washing the vehicle, make surethat the automatic rain sensor is deacti- vated. If it is not deactivated and inadver-tently starts, the wiper arms could bedamaged.
2. To help prevent damage from the auto- matic car wash machinery, make surethat the door mirrors are folded in, anten-nas retracted or removed, and any auxili-ary lights secured.
3. Drive into the automatic car wash.
4. Turn off the "Automatic Braking when Stationary" function using the switch in the tunnel console.
5. Turn off the "Automatic Parking Brake Application" function in the center dis-play's Top view.
6. Turn off the engine by turning the start knob in the tunnel console clockwise.Hold the knob in position for at least2 seconds.
The vehicle is now ready for the automatic carwash.

Changing rear window wipers
The wiper blades help remove water from the windshield and rear window. Along with thewasher fluid, they clean the glass and helpimprove visibility while driving. The windshieldand rear window wiper blades can be replaced.
Changing rear window wipers
Lift the wiper arm from the window and pull the lower section of the blade to the right.
1. Grasp the center of the wiper blade and
lift it from the window to the stop position.
NOTE
When the wiper arm is halfway folded out, it will stop in a locking position that helps pre-vent the arm from falling back onto the rearwindow. The wiper arm must be pulled pastthe locking position stop in order to changethe wiper blade.
2. Grip the lower part of the blade and pull
to the right until the blade loosens from the arm.
3. Press the new wiper blade until it clicks into place. Check to make sure the blade issecurely in place.
4. Fold the wiper arm back toward the window.
CAUTION
Check the blades regularly. Neglected main- tenance shortens the life of the blades.
