Automatic transmission
Adaptive Cruise Control can follow another vehi-cle at speeds from a standstill up to 200 km/h(125 mph).
The lowest speed that can be set for AdaptiveCruise Control is 30 km/h (20 mph). When fol-lowing another vehicle, ACC can monitor thatvehicle's speed and slow your own vehicle downto a standstill, but it is not possible to set speedslower than 30 km/h (20 mph).
The highest possible speed that can be set is200 km/h (125 mph).

Setting Adaptive Cruise Controltime intervals
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC43) can be set tovarious time intervals to the vehicle ahead.
Different time intervals to thevehicle ahead can be selectedand are shown in the instru-ment panel as 1–5 horizontalbars. The more bars, the longerthe time interval. One bar rep-resents an interval ofapprox. 1 second to the vehicle ahead. 5 barsrepresents approx. 3 seconds.
The same symbol appears when the DistanceAlert function is activated.

NOTE
When the symbol in the instrument panelshows two vehicles, ACC is following the vehi-cle ahead at a preset time interval.
When only one vehicle is shown, there is novehicle ahead within a reasonable distance.

In order to help your vehicle follow the vehicleahead as smoothly and comfortably as possible,Adaptive Cruise Control allows the time intervalto vary noticeably in certain situations. At lowspeeds, when the distance to the vehicle aheadis short, Adaptive Cruise Control increases thetime interval slightly.

Switching between Cruise Controland Adaptive Cruise Control
In vehicles equipped with Adaptive Cruise Con-trol (ACC), the driver can switch between CruiseControl (CC) and ACC.

Switching from ACC to CC
To do so:
1.Press the button on the steering wheelkeypad to put Adaptive Cruise Control instandby mode.
2.Tap the Cruise Control button in the centerdisplay's Function view. The button's indica-tor will change from GRAY to GREEN.
>The symbol in the instrument panel will
change from ACC to CC, indicating that Adaptive Cruise Con-trol is off and Cruise Control is in standbymode.
3.Pressing the button on the steeringwheel keypad.
>Cruise Control will start and the vehicle'scurrent speed will be set.
WARNING
Switching from ACC to CC means that thevehicle:
will no longer maintain a preset timeinterval to the vehicle ahead.
will only follow the stored speed and thedriver must therefore apply the brakeswhen necessary.
If CC is active when the engine is turned off, ACCwill be automatically activated the next time theengine is started.

Switching from CC to ACC
To do so:
1.Press the button on the steering wheelkeypad to put Cruise Control in standbymode.
2.Tap the Cruise Control button in Functionview. The button's indicator will change fromGREEN to GRAY.
>The symbols in the instrument panel will
switch from CC to ACCto indicate that Adaptive Cruise Control isin standby mode.
3.Pressing the button on the steeringwheel keypad.
>Adaptive Cruise Control will go into activemode and set the vehicle's current speedand the selected time interval to the vehi-cle ahead.

Setting a time interval for PilotAssist
Pilot Assist can be set to different time intervals.

In order to follow the vehicle ahead as smoothlyas possible, Pilot Assist allows the time interval tovary considerably in certain situations. For exam-ple, at low speeds and short distances to thevehicle ahead, Pilot Assist increases the timeinterval slightly.
NOTE
The greater the vehicles' speed, thegreater the distance between them for aset time interval.
Only use the time intervals permitted bylocal traffic regulations.
If Pilot Assist does not seem to respondwith a speed increase when activated, itmay be because the time interval to thevehicle ahead is shorter than the set timeinterval.

WARNING
Only use a time interval suitable for thecurrent traffic conditions.
The driver should be aware that shorttime intervals give them limited time toreact and act to any unforeseen trafficsituation.

Setting how Pilot Assist should
maintain distance * to the vehicle ahead
The driver can choose different drive modes todetermine how Pilot Assist should maintain atime interval to the vehicle ahead. Settings aremade using the DRIVE MODE controls.

CauseAction
The area of the windshield in front of the camera/radar sensor isdirty or covered by ice or snow.Clean the windshield in front of the camera/radar sensor and remove dirt, ice andsnow.
Thick fog, heavy rain or snow is blocking the radar signals or thecamera's range of visibility.No action. Heavy precipitation may sometimes prevent the camera/radar sensor fromfunctioning.
Water or snow is spraying/swirling up and blocking the radar signalsor the camera's range of visibility.No action. Very wet or snow-covered roads may sometimes prevent the camera/radar sensor from functioning.
There is dirt between the inside of the windshield and the camera/radar sensor.Consult a workshop to have the area of the windshield on the inside of the camera'scasing cleaned. An authorized Volvo workshop is recommended.
Bright sunlight.No action. The camera/radar sensor will reset automatically when lighting conditionsimprove.

NOTE
Keep the windshield in front of the cameraand radar unit clean.

High temperatures
If the temperature in the passenger compartmentis very high, the camera/radar sensor will switchoff temporarily for approx. 15 minutes after theengine is started to protect its electronic compo-nents. When the temperature has cooled suffi-ciently, the camera/radar sensor will automati-cally restart.
Damaged windshield
CAUTION
If there are cracks, scratches or stone chipson the windshield in front of any of the cam-era and radar unit "windows" and this coversan area of about 0.5 × 3.0 mm(0.02 × 0.12 in.) or more, contact a workshopto have the windshield replaced – an author-ized Volvo workshop is recommended.
Failure to take action could result in reducedperformance for the driver support systemsthat use the camera and radar unit.
It could cause functions to be reduced, deac-tivated completely or produce an incorrectfunction response.
To avoid the risk of loss of function, malfunc-tion or reduced function of the driver supportsystems that use the radar unit, the followingalso apply:
Volvo advises against repairing cracks,scratches or stone chips in the area infront of the camera and radar unit – theentire windshield should instead bereplaced.
Before replacing the windshield, contactan authorized Volvo workshop to verify

Road Sign Information with SpeedWarning and Settings
The Speed Limit Warning sub-function for
RSI96 can be switched On or Off.
Speed Limit Warning warns the driver if thevehicle's speed has exceeded the applicablespeed limit or the preset Speed Limiter speed.The warning will be repeated once afterabout 1 minute in that speed limit area if thedriver does not slow down.
A new warning and message indicating that thespeed limit has been exceeded will be providedonly when the vehicle has entered a new/differ-ent speed limit area.
When Speed Warning is acti-vated, the symbol for the cur-rent speed limit in the instru-
ment panel97 will flash tempo-rarily if that speed is exceeded.
The driver can be alerted if thevehicle is exceeding a detectedspeed limit and is approachinga speed camera.

Settings
Adjusting the Speed Warning limit
The driver can adjust the settings to be alerted ata higher speed than the posted speed limit.
To adjust the Speed Warning limit:
1. Select SettingsMy CarIntelliSafe
Road Sign Information in the centerdisplay's Top view.
2.Mark Speed Limit Warning.
>The function is activated and a speed limitselector is displayed.
3. Tap the up/down arrows on the screen toadjust the speed at which the Speed Warn-ing will be given.
Please note that the set warn-ing limit will not be used whena speed camera symbol is dis-played in the instrument panel.

Audible alert On/Off
An audible alert can also be given along with theSpeed Warning.
To adjust the audible alert settings:
1. Select SettingsMy CarIntelliSafe
Road Sign Information in the centerdisplay's Top view.
2.Select/deselect Road Sign Audio Warningto activate/deactivate the audible alert.
When Road Sign Audio Warning is activated,the driver will also be alerted if the vehicle isapproaching a one-way/"no-entry" road orentrance.
Speed camera warning On/Off
If the vehicle is equipped withSensus Navigation* and mapdata contains information onspeed cameras, the driver canchoose to receive an audiblealert if the vehicle is approach-ing a speed camera.
To adjust the audible alert settings:

Available drive modes
WARNING
Keep in mind that the vehicle does not emitany engine noise when using the electricmotor and may therefore be difficult to detectfor children, pedestrians, cyclists or animals.This is particularly true at low speeds, e.g. inparking lots.

WARNING
Do not leave the vehicle in an unventilatedarea with a drive mode activated and the com-bustion engine switched off. The engine willstart automatically if the charge level in thehybrid battery is low and the resulting exhaustgases can be very harmful to people and ani-mals.

HYBRID
This is the default mode in which the electricmotor and combustion engine work together.
The vehicle starts in Hybrid mode. The controlsystem uses both the electric motor and the gas-oline engine - separately or in tandem - and cal-culates optimal utilization with regard to perform-ance, fuel consumption and comfort. At highspeeds, ground clearance is automatically low-
ered3 to reduce air resistance. Driving capacity onthe electric motor alone is determined by factors
such as the hybrid battery's charge level, theneed for heat/cooling in the passenger compart-ment, etc.
If there is sufficient charge in the battery, it ispossible to drive solely on electric power. Whenthe accelerator pedal is pressed, only the electricmotor will be activated until the battery reaches acertain charge level. Above this level, the currentin the battery cannot supply the power requestedby the accelerator pedal and the combustionengine will start.
When the hybrid battery's charge level is low, thecombustion engine will start more frequently tosave the remaining current in the battery. Chargethe hybrid battery from a 120-240 volt outletusing a charging cable, or activate Charge inFunction view to reset the option of only usingthe electric motor.
This drive mode is designed for low energy con-sumption with an optimized mix between theelectric motor and gasoline engine, without com-promising on climate comfort or driving experi-ence. When faster acceleration is requested bythe driver, the electric driveline will be utilized tohelp provide maximum additional power. Thevehicle also monitors the driving conditions andautomatically engages all-wheel drive if neces-sary. All-wheel drive and extra electric power arealways available regardless of the battery'scharging status.
Information in the instrument panel
When driving in Hybrid mode, a hybrid gauge willbe displayed in the instrument panel. The gaugewill indicate the amount of electrical currentrequired when the driver depresses the accelera-tor pedal. The marker between the lightning andthe drop shows how much current is available.
The instrument panel gauge when both the electricmotor and the combustion engine are being used.
The instrument panel also shows howmuch current is being restored to thebattery (regenerated) during light brak-ing.

PURE
Uses the electric motor only, with the lowestpossible energy consumption and carbondioxide emissions.
This drive mode maximizes the use of the hybrid
battery. Ground clearance is lowered3 to reduceair resistance and certain climate system func-tions are reduced to provide the longest possibledriving distance using only electricity.
Pure mode is available when the hybrid battery issufficiently charged. Even in Pure mode, the com-bustion engine will start if the charge level in thebattery gets too low. The combustion engine willalso start
if the vehicle's speed goes above 125 km/h(78 mph)
if the driver requests more power than theelectric motor can provide
if factors such as cold weather affect thesystem or components.
This drive mode is optimized for maximum drivingdistance with electric propulsion and is primarilyintended for use in city driving. Pure helps pro-vide the lowest possible consumption even whenthe hybrid battery is fully discharged. ECO climateis activated to control the climate in the passen-ger compartment, and in slippery road conditionsslightly more wheel spin may be permitted beforeall-wheel drive is automatically activated.
ECO Climate
In Pure mode, ECO climate is automatically acti-vated in the passenger compartment to helpreduce energy consumption.

NOTE
When the Pure drive mode is activated, set-tings for certain climate system and electricityconsuming functions are reduced. Some ofthese settings can be reset manually, but fullfunctionality will only be restored by leavingPure mode or adapting the Individual drivemode to full climate system functionality.
If condensation forms on the windows, tap themax defroster button, which will function normally.

OFF ROAD
Maximizes the vehicle's ability to traverse dif-ficult terrain or poor roads.
In this mode, ground clearance3 is high, steeringis light, and all-wheel drive and Hill DescentControl are activated.
This drive mode is only available at low speeds,up to 40 km/h (25 mph). If this speed is excee-ded, Off road mode will be cancelled and AWDmode will be activated instead.
All-wheel drive requires both the combustion andelectric motor to be in continuous operation,which results in higher fuel consumption.
In Off road mode, a compass will be displayedbetween the speedometer and the tachometer inthe instrument panel. The permissible speedrange will be shown in the speedometer.

INDIVIDUAL
Customizes drive mode to personal preferen-ces.
Select one of the drive modes as a basis andadjust the settings to achieve your preferred driv-ing characteristics. These settings will be storedin your driver profile.
Individual drive mode is only available if it hasbeen activated in the center display.

Using the electric or combustion
engine
An advanced control system determines the dis-tance that the vehicle can be driven on the com-bustion engine, electric motor, or both at thesame time.
Its primary function is to use the motor/engineand the current available in the hybrid battery asefficiently as possible based on the characteris-tics of the various drive modes and the poweroutput requested by the driver by pressing theaccelerator pedal.
In certain cases, temporary limitations in the sys-tem or mandatory functions to help maintain alow overall emissions level may result in greateruse of the combustion engine.

Follow these instructions to program
HomeLink®, reset all programming, or programindividual buttons.
NOTE
In some vehicles, the ignition must be on or in
the "accessory position" before HomeLink®
can be programmed or used. It can be a goodidea to put new batteries in the remote con-
trol being replaced by HomeLink® for fasterprogramming and better radio signal trans-
mission. The HomeLink® buttons should bereset before programming.

WARNING
While HomeLink® is being programmed, thegarage door or gate being programmed maybe activated. Make sure that no one is nearthe door or gate during programming. Whenprogramming a garage door opener, it isadvised to park outside of the garage.
1.Point the remote control at the HomeLink®
button to be programmed and hold it about2-8 cm (1-3 inches) from the button. Do not
obstruct the HomeLink® indicator light.
Note: Some remote controls are more effec-
tive at programming HomeLink® from a dis-tance of about 15-20 cm (6-12 inches). Trymoving the remote control closer or furtheraway if you are experiencing any difficultiesprogramming.
2.Press and hold both the remote control but-
ton and the HomeLink® button to be pro-grammed.
3. Do not release the buttons until the indicatorlight has stopped flashing slowly (about oncea second) and either flashes quickly (about10 times a second) or glows steadily.
>Steady glow: Indication that program-ming is complete. Press the programmedbutton twice to activate.
Flashing quickly: The device being pro-
grammed with HomeLink® may have asecurity function that requires an extrastep. Try pressing the programmed buttontwice to see whether the programmingworks. Otherwise, continue with the fol-lowing steps.

4. Locate the "training" button13 on thereceiver for the e.g. garage door opener. It isusually located near the antenna bracket onthe receiver.
5.Press and release the "training" button once.Programming must be completed within 30seconds after pressing the button.
6.Press and release the HomeLink® button tobe programmed. Repeat the press/hold/release sequence a second time. For somereceivers, the sequence may need to berepeated a third time.
> Programming is now completed and thegarage door, gate, etc. should now beactivated when the programmed button ispressed.

Programming individual buttons
To program an individual HomeLink® button:
1. Press and hold the desired button for about20 seconds.
2.When the indicator light on HomeLink®
starts flashing slowly, it is possible to pro-gram as usual.
Note: If the button you are reprogrammingdoes not program with a new device, it willreturn to the previously saved programming.

Resetting the HomeLink ®
buttons
It is only possible to reset all HomeLink® buttonsat once. It is not possible to reset individual but-tons. Individual buttons can only be reprogram-med.
–Press and hold the outer buttons (1 and 3)
on HomeLink® for about 10 seconds.
>When the indicator light goes from asteady glow to flashing, the buttons havebeen reset and are ready for reprogram-ming.

Once HomeLink® is programmed, it can beused instead of the separate remote controls.
Press and hold the programming button. Thegarage door, gate, alarm system, etc. will be acti-vated (this may take several seconds). If the but-ton is held down for more than 20 seconds,reprogramming will begin. The indicator light willglow steadily or flash when the button has beenpressed. The original remote controls may be
used concurrently with HomeLink® if desired.
NOTE
If the ignition is off, HomeLink® works for30 minutes after the driver's door has beenopened.
