Replacing the remote key's battery
The battery in the remote key must be replaced when it is discharged.
NOTE
All batteries have a limited service life and must eventually be replaced (does notapply for Key Tag). The battery's service lifevaries depending on how often thevehicle/key is used.

NOTE
Move closer to the vehicle and try to unlock it again.
The battery in the smaller key without but- tons 7
(the Key Tag) cannot be replaced. A new key can be ordered from an authorized Volvo workshop.
CAUTION
An end-of-life Key Tag must be turned in to an authorized Volvo workshop. The keymust be deleted from the vehicle becauseit can still be used to start the vehicle viabackup start.
Opening the key and replacing the battery
Hold the remote key with the front side
(with the Volvo logo) facing up and move the button on the key ring section to theright. Slide the front cover slightly upward.
The cover will loosen and can be
removed from the key.

Locking and unlocking with detachable key blade
The detachable key blade can be used to unlock the vehicle from the outside, e.g. if thebattery in the remote key is discharged.
Unlocking
Pull the front left-hand door handle to its end position to access the lock cylinder.
Put the key in the lock cylinder.
Turn the key clockwise 45 degrees so that the key blade is pointing straight rear-ward.
Turn the key blade back 45 degrees to its original position. Remove the key from thelock cylinder and release the handle sothat it returns to its original positionagainst the vehicle.
5. Pull the door handle. > The door will open. Lock the door in the same way, but turn thekey 45 degrees counterclockwise in step (3).
Disarming the alarm and starting the vehicle
NOTE
When the door is unlocked using the detachable key blade and then opened, thealarm will be triggered.
Location of the backup key reader in the cup holder.
Turn off the alarm by:
1. Place the remote control key on the key
symbol in the backup reader in the bottom of the cup holder in the tunnel console.
2. Turn the start knob clockwise and release it.
> The alarm signal will stop and the alarmwill switch off.
LockingThe vehicle can also be locked using the remote key's detachable key blade, e.g. ifeither the vehicle's or remote key's batteriesare discharged. The left-hand front door can be locked by inserting the detachable key into the door'slock cylinder. This is the only door with a lock cylinder. The other doors have lock mechanisms in the sideof the door that must be pushed in using thekey blade. The door will then be lockedmechanically and cannot be opened from theoutside. The doors can still be opened from inside.

CAUTION
When operating the tailgate manually, open and close it slowly. If you encounterresistance, do not use force. This couldlead to damage and loss of function.
Interrupting opening or closingInterrupt opening or closing by doing one of the following:
Press the button on the dashboard.
Press the button on the remote key.
Press the close button on the underside ofthe tailgate.
Press the rubberized pressure plate on theunderside of the tailgate's outer handle.
Using a foot movement

Tailgate movement is interrupted and stops.The tailgate can then be opened or closedmanually. If the tailgate stops near the closed position, it will open the next time it is activated.
Pinch protectionIf anything obstructs the tailgate with enoughforce to prevent it from opening or closing,pinch protection will be activated.
When opening - the tailgate will stopmoving and an audible signal will sound.
When closing - the tailgate will stop, along audible signal will sound and the tail-gate will return to the programmed maxi-mum opening position.
WARNING
Be aware of the risk of injury when opening and closing. Before opening or closing, make sure that no one is near the tailgate's range ofmotion. Serious injury could occur. Always operate the tailgate with caution.
Preloaded springs
Preloaded springs for the power tailgate.
WARNING
Do not attempt to open or access the pre- loaded springs in the power tailgate struts.They are preloaded with high pressure andcan cause injury if opened.

Alarm The alarm emits sound and light signals if anyone without a valid remote key attemptsto break into the vehicle or interferes with thestart battery or alarm siren.
When armed, the alarm will be triggered if:
the hood, tailgate or any door is opened.
a battery cable is disconnected.
the alarm siren is disconnected.
Alarm signalsThe following occurs if the alarm is triggered:
A siren will sound for 30 seconds or until the alarm is turned off.
The hazard warning flashers will flash for5 minutes or until the alarm is turned off.
If the reason the alarm was triggered is notrectified, the alarm cycle will repeat up to 10 times 15
.
Alarm indicator
A red indicator light on the dashboard shows the status of the alarm:
Indicator off - the alarm is disarmed.
Indicator flashes once every two seconds -the alarm is armed.
The indicator flashes quickly after thealarm has been disabled for up to30 seconds or until the ignition is put in

mode – the alarm has been triggered.
In the event of alarm system failureIf a problem is detected in the alarmsystem, a symbol and the message

Adaptive Cruise Control may go into standbymode if: your vehicle's speed goes below 5 km/h(3 mph) and ACC cannot determine if thevehicle ahead is stationary or if it isanother object, e.g. a speed bump.

Steep roads and/or heavy loadsAdaptive Cruise Control is primarily intended to be driven on flat roads. The function maynot be able to maintain the correct time inter-val to the vehicle ahead when driving downsteep hills. The driver should be extra attentiveand prepared to apply the brakes. Do not use Adaptive Cruise Control if the vehi- cle is carrying a heavy load or towing a trailer.
Other limitationsThe Off Road drive mode cannot be selected
if Adaptive Cruise Control is activated.

The driver is advised to read all sec-tions in the Owner's Manual about thisfunction to learn of its limitations,which the driver must be aware ofbefore using the function.
Driver support functions are not a sub-stitute for the driver's attention andjudgment. The driver is always respon-sible for ensuring the vehicle is drivenin a safe manner, at the appropriatespeed, with an appropriate distance toother vehicles, and in accordance withcurrent traffic rules and regulations.
Pilot Assist regulates speed by acceleratingand braking. It is normal for the brakes to emita slight sound when they are being used toadjust speed. Pilot Assist attempts to smoothly regulate speed. The driver must apply the brakes in sit-uations requiring immediate braking. Forexample, when there are great differences in speed between vehicles or if the vehicle aheadbrakes suddenly. Due to limitations in the camera and radar sensor, braking may occur unexpectedly or not at all. Pilot Assist attempts to follow a vehicle ahead in the same lane and maintain a time intervalto that vehicle set by the driver. If the radarsensor does not detect a vehicle ahead, it willinstead maintain the speed set by the driver.This will also happen if the speed of the vehi-cle ahead exceeds the set speed for your vehi-cle.
CAUTION
Only a workshop may perform mainte- nance on driver support components – anauthorized Volvo workshop is recom-mended.
In curves and forks in the roadPilot Assist is designed to interact with the driver. The driver should never wait for steer-ing assistance from Pilot Assist, but insteadshould always be ready to increase his or herown steering efforts, particularly in curves.
When the vehicle is approaching an off-ramp or a fork in the road, the drivershould steer toward the desired lane toindicate to Pilot Assist the desired direc-tion of travel.
Pilot Assist strives to keep the vehicle in the center of the lane
When Pilot Assist provides steering assis- tance, it strives to position the vehicle in thecenter of the lane between the lane markings.To make the driving experience as smooth aspossible, the driver should permit the vehicleto find good positioning. The driver shouldcheck that the vehicle is positioned safely inthe lane and can always adjust the vehicle'sposition by applying more force to the steeringwheel. If Pilot Assist does not position the vehicle appropriately in the lane, the driver shouldturn off Pilot Assist or switch to Adaptive Cruise Control
*.
Hands on the steering wheelPilot Assist only functions if the driver's hands are on the steering wheel.
If Pilot Assist detects that thedriver's hands are not on thesteering wheel, a symbol andtext message will appear toinstruct the driver to activelysteer the vehicle.
If the driver's hands are still not detected on the steering wheel after a few seconds havepassed, the instructions to actively steer thevehicle will be repeated, accompanied by anaudible signal.

standby mode
Pilot Assist can be deactivated and put in standby mode. This may happen automati-cally or be due to driver intervention.
Standby mode means that the function is selected in the instrument panel but not acti-vated. In standby mode, Pilot Assist will notregulate the speed or distance to the vehicleahead or provide steering assistance.
Standby mode due to action by the

Pilot Assist will be deactivated and put instandby mode if any of the following occurs:
The brakes are applied.
The gear selector is moved to
N.
A turn signal is used for more than1 minute.
The vehicle is driven faster than the setspeed for more than 1 minute.
Automatic standby modePilot Assist is dependent on other systems, such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC 43
). If
any of these other systems stops working, Pilot Assist will be automatically deactivated.

Temporarily deactivating steering assistance with Pilot Assist *44
Pilot Assist steering assistance can be tem- porarily deactivated and reactivated withoutprior warning.
When the turn signals are used, Pilot Assist's steering assistance will be temporarily deacti-vated. When the turn signal is switched off,steering assistance will be automatically reac-tivated if the traffic lane's side markings canstill be detected. If Pilot Assist cannot clearly interpret the lane's side marker lines or if the camera/radarsensor is unable for some other reason toclearly interpret the lane, Pilot Assist will tem-porarily deactivate steering assistance. How-ever, the speed and distance warnings willremain active. Steering assistance will resumewhen the side marker lines can once again beinterpreted. In these situations, the driver maybe alerted through slight vibrations in thesteering wheel that steering assistance is tem-porarily deactivated.

Pilot Assist functionality may be reduced in certain situations.
Pilot Assist is a driver support function designed to simplify driving and assist thedriver in many situations. However, the driveris always responsible for maintaining a suita-ble distance to vehicles or objects around itand ensuring that the vehicle is correctly posi-tioned in the traffic lane.
WARNING
In some situations, Pilot Assist may have trouble helping the driver properly or maybe deactivated automatically – we adviseagainst using Pilot Assist in such cases.Examples of such situations include:
the lane markings are worn, missing or cross each other.
lane division is unclear, for example,when the lanes divide or merge or atexits or when there are multiple sets ofmarkings.
edges or other lines than lane markingsare present on or near the road, e.g.curbs, joints or repairs to the road sur-face, edges of barriers, roadside edgesor strong shadows.
the lane is narrow or winding.
the lane contains ridges or holes.
weather conditions are poor, e.g. rain,snow or fog or slush or reduced visibil-ity with poor light conditions, back-lighting, wet road surface, etc.
The driver should also note that Pilot Assist has the following limitations:
High curbs, roadside barriers, tempo- rary obstacles (traffic cones, safety bar-riers, etc.) are not detected. Alterna-

Passing assistance Passing assistance can assist the driver when passing other vehicles. The function can be used with Adaptive Cruise Control * or Pilot
Assist *.
How passing assistance worksWhen Adaptive Cruise Control or Pilot Assist is following another vehicle and you indicatethat you intend to pass that vehicle by using the turn signal 51
, the system will begin accel-
erating toward the vehicle ahead before your
vehicle has moved into the passing lane. The function will then delay a speed reduction to avoid early braking as your vehicleapproaches a slower-moving vehicle. The function remains active until your vehicle has passed the other vehicle.
WARNING
Please note that this function can be acti- vated in more situations than just passinganother vehicle, such as when a directionindicator is used to indicate a lane changeor before exiting to another road – the vehi-cle will then briefly accelerate.

Using passing assistance Passing assistance can be used with Adap- tive Cruise Control * or Pilot Assist *. Several
conditions must be met for passing assis- tance to be possible.
In order to activate passing assistance:
your vehicle must be following a vehicle ahead (target vehicle)

at least 70 km/h (43 mph)
the set speed
must be high enough to

To start passing assistance:

The Rear Collision Warning 64
(RCW) function
can help the driver avoid rear-end collisions from vehicles approaching from behind.
The function can alert drivers of following vehi- cles of the risk of a collision by rapidly flashingthe turn signals. If, at a speed below 30 km/h (20 mph), the function detects that the vehicle is in dangerof being hit from behind, the seat belt tension-ers may tension the front seat belts. TheWhiplash Protection System will also be acti-vated in a collision. Immediately before a collision from behind, the function may also activate the brakes inorder to reduce the forward acceleration of thevehicle during the collision. However, thebrakes will only be applied if your vehicle isstationary. The brakes will be immediatelyreleased if the accelerator pedal is depressed. The function is automatically activated each time the engine is started.

In some situations, it may be difficult for Rear Collision Warning (RCW) to warn the driverof a collision risk.
This may be the case if: the vehicle approaching from the rear is detected at a late stage
the vehicle approaching from the rearchanges lanes at a late stage
a trailer, bicycle holder or similar is con-nected to the vehicle's electrical system -the function will then be automaticallydeactivated.
NOTE
In certain markets RCW does
not warn
with the direction indicators due to local traffic regulations – in such cases, that partof the function is deactivated.
