adlights will switch on.
Parking lights on
Headlights, parking lights, license plate lights and instrument panel i\
llumination are on if the
ignition key is in position II.
If the headlight switch is in position
all lights will go out when the ignition is switched off.
The headlight switch must be in this position before the high beams will\
function (this also applies on
models equipped with the optional Bi-Xenon headlights).
Switch from high to low beams and vice versa by pulling the turn signal \
switch lever on the left side of
steering column toward you.
B - Instrument illumination

instrument panel illumination sensor (see illustration on
page 48) which automatically adjusts the level
of illumination.
C -Unlocking the fuel filler door

Intermittent wiper function. With the lever in this position, you can s\
et the wiper interval by
twisting control A upward to increase wiper speed or downward to decreas\
e the speed.
Rain sensor (option)
The rain sensor replaces the intermittent wiper function and automatical\
ly regulates wiper speed
according to the amount of water on the windshield. The sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted by
twisting control A upward or downward.
Activating the rain sensor function:
1. Switch on the ignition.
2. Move the windshield wiper lever to the intermittent position.
The rain sensor is deactivated when the ignition is switched completely \
off.
To reactivate the rain sensor function:
1. Switch on the ignition.
2. Move the windshield wiper lever to position 0 and then back to the in\
termittent position.
CAUTION: When washing the car in an automatic carwash, etc move the windshield wi\
per lever to
position 0 or switch off the ignition completely to deactivate the rain \
sensor. If the sensor function is left
on, the wipers will start inadvertently in the carwash and could be dama\
ged.

Direct the air vents toward the rear seat for the best heating/cooling e\
ffect.
pg. 47 Climate control system - general information
Condensation on the inside of the windows
Keeping the insides of the windows clean will help reduce the amount of \
condensation that forms on the
windows. Use a commercial window cleaning agent to clean the windows.
Ice and snow
Always keep the air intake grille at the base of the windshield free of \
snow.
Cabin air filter
Replace the cabin air filter with a new one at the recommended intervals\
. Please refer to your Warranty
and Service Records Information booklet, or consult your Volvo retailer \
for these intervals. The filter
should be replaced more often when driving under dirty and dusty conditi\
ons. The filter cannot be
cleaned and therefore should always be replaced with a new one.
Sensors
The sunlight sensor on the dashboard and passenger compartment temperatu\
re sensor in the ECC control
panel should not be covered in any way as this could cause incorrect inf\
ormation to be sent to the ECC
system.
Parking the car in warm weather
If your car has been parked in the sun in warm weather, opening the wind\
ows and moonroof (option) for
several minutes before driving will help release the warm air from the p\
assenger compartment. When
the engine is running, close the windows and moonroof and use the recirc\
ulation function for several
minutes to enable the air conditioning to cool the compartment as quickl\
y as possible.

em (option)
Interior Air Quality system (option)
Some cars are equipped with a Multifilter and Air quality sensor. The fi\
lter separates gases and particles,
thereby reducing the amounts of odors and contaminants entering the car.\
The Air quality sensor detects
increased levels of contaminants in the outside air. When the Air qualit\
y sensor detects contaminated
outside air, the air intake closes and the air inside the passenger comp\
artment is recirculated, i.e. no
outside air enters the car. The filter also cleans recirculated passenge\
r compartment air. When the Air
quality sensor is activated, the LED AUT comes on in
Operation:
Press to activate the Air quality sensor (normal setting).
Or select one of three functions by pressing

Keep the following in mind:
l Make it a rule to have the Air quality sensor activated at all times.
l Recirculation is limited in cold climates to avoid misting up.
l If misting occurs, you should deactivate the Air quality sensor.
l If the windows mist up, you can also use the windshield and side window \
defroster functions. See
page 49.
l The filter should be changed at the intervals listed in the Warranty and\
Service Records Information
booklet. However, if the car is used in a severely contaminated environm\
ent, it may be necessary to
change the filter more frequently.
