WARNING!
Neverdrivewithdeployedairbags.They
canmakesteeringdifficult.Othersafety
systemsmayalsobedamaged.The
smokeanddustcreatedwhentheairbags
aredeployedcancauseskinandeyeirri-
tationafterintensiveexposure.Incaseof
irritation,washwithcoldwater.Therapid
deploymentsequenceandairbagfabric

orrepairofyourclimatecontrolsystem.
Entrustchecksandrepairsonlytotrained
personnel.RefrigerantTheairconditioningsystemcontainsR134a
refrigerant.Thisrefrigerantcontainsno
chlorine,whichmeansthatitisharmlessto
theozonelayer.Thesystemmustonlybe
chargedwithR134arefrigerant.Havean
authorisedVolvoworkshopcarryoutthis
work.
VentilationfanfunctionWhentheengineisoff(andiftheignitionkey
isinpositionIorII),theventilationfanis
automaticallyswitchedoff.Thisistoprevent
thebatteryfrombecomingdischarged.
Toactivatetheventilationfan,turnthefan
controlandsetthedesiredspeed.CarswithECCActualtemperature
Thetemperatureyouselectcorrespondsto
thephysicalexperiencewithreferencetoair
speed,humidity,exposuretosun,etc.which
affecttheinteriorandexteriorofthecar.
Sensors
Thesunsensorisontheupperportionofthe
dashboard.Remembernottocoverit.Donot
coverthepassengercompartmenttemper-
aturesensorontheclimatecontrolpanel.
Sidewindowsandsunroof
Toensurethattheairconditioningworks
satisfactorily,closeallsidewindowsandthe
sunroof(iffitted).
Acceleration
Theairconditioningsystemswitchesoff
temporarilyatfullacceleration.Youmayfeel
atemporaryriseintemperature.Condensation
Inwarmweather,condensationfromtheair
conditioningsystemmaydripunderthecar.
Thisisnormal.
Fueleconomy
WithECC,theairconditioningsystemis
controlledautomaticallyandisusedjust
enoughtocoolthepassengercompartment
andtoadequatelydehumidifytheincoming
air.Thisprovidesbetterfueleconomy
comparedtoconventionalsystemswherethe
airconditioningcoolstheairtojustabove
freezingpoint.

clearedifthecarclockisresetaftertimer
settingshavebeenmade.SettingTIMER1and2Forsafetyreasons,youcanonlyprogramme
timesforthefollowing24hours,notseveral
daysinadvance.
–Usethering(B)totoggletoTIMER1.
–BrieflypresstheRESETbutton(C)so
thatthehourssettingstartstoflash.
–Usethering(B)tosetthedesiredhours.
–BrieflypresstheRESETbuttonsothat
theminutessettingstartstoflash.
–Usethering(B)tosetthedesired
minutes.
–BrieflypresstheRESETbuttontoconfirm
yoursetting.
–PresstheRESETbuttontoactivatethe
timer.

SelectON.
Theheaterwillnowrunfor60minutes.
Heatingofthepassengercompartmentwill
beginassoonastheenginecoolanthas
reachedanadequatetemperature.
Deactivatingheaterafterdirectstart
–Usethering(B)totoggletoDIRECT
START.
–PresstheRESETbutton(C)tomakeON
andOFFselectionsavailable.
–SelectOFF.BatteryandfuelIfthebatteryisnotsufficientlychargedorthe
petroltankisclosetoempty,theparking
heaterwillbeswitchedoff.Ifthisisthecase,
youwillreceiveamessageinthedisplay.
ConfirmthemessageusingtheREAD
button(A).
Additionalheater(diesel)
(certaincountries)Extraheatfromtheadditionalheatermaybe
requiredincoldweathertoreachthecorrect
temperatureinthepassengercompartment.
Theadditionalheaterstartsautomatically
whenextraheatisrequirediftheengineis
running.Itisswitchedoffautomaticallywhen
thecorrecttemperatureisreachedorwhen
theengineisswitchedoff.IMPORTANT!Repeateduseoftheparkingheaterin
combinationwithshorttripscanleadto
batterydischargeandtherebydifficulty
starting.
Iftheheaterisusedregularly,thecar
shouldbedrivenforthesameamountof
timeastheheaterwasusedinorderto
ensurethatthegeneratorisableto
produceenoughenergytocompensate
fortheamountconsumed.

Cargocover(option)Pulloutthecargoareacover,pullitoverthe
cargoandhookitintotheholesintherear
pillarsofthecargocompartment.
Removingthecargoareacover
Presstheendpiecesofthecargoareacover
inwards,pullupandrelease.Whenfitting,
presstheendpiecesofthecargoareacover
downintotheholders.
WARNING!
Forcarsseatingseven:Forreasonsof
safety,nopassengersshouldsitinthe
thirdrowofseatsiftheprotectivegrilleis
positionedbehindthesecondrowof
seats.
WARNING!
Donotplaceobjectsonthecargoarea
cover.Theycouldinjurepassengers

–withtheplussidefacingup.Avoid
touchingthebatteryanditscontact
surfaceswithyourfingers.
–Refitthecover.Makesuretherubberseal
isproperlyfittedandfreefromdamageto
preventwaterfromentering.–TurntheoldbatteryintoyourVolvo
workshopsothatitisdisposedofinan
environmentallyfriendlyway.

onwhenthechildsafetylockisactivated.A
messageappearsinthedisplaywhenyou
activateordeactivatethechildsafetylock.
NOTE!Thereardoorscannotbeopened
fromtheinsideaslongastheelectricchild
safetylocksareactivated.Whenthealarmisarmed,itcontinually
monitorsallalarminputs.Thealarmis
triggeredif:
thebonnetisopened
thetailgateisopened
asidedoorisopened
theignitionswitchisturnedwithanon-
approvedkeyorsubjectedtoforce
ifmovementisdetectedinthepassenger
compartment

control.Alongflashfromthecar’sdirection
indicatorsconfirmsthatthealarmisarmed
andthatalldoorsareclosed.DeactivatingthealarmPresstheUNLOCKbuttonontheremote
control.Twoshortflashesfromthecar’s
directionindicatorsconfirmthatthealarmhas
beendeactivated.AutomaticalarmactivationIfnoneofthedoorsorthetailgateisopened
withintwominutesofthealarmbeingdeacti-
vated,andthecarwasunlockedwiththe
remotecontrol,thecarreactivatesthealarm
automatically.Thecarlocksatthesametime.
Thisfunctionpreventsyoufromaccidentally
leavingthecarwithoutthealarmon.
Automaticalarmactivation
Incertaincountries(e.g.Belgium,Israel)the
alarmisactivatedafteracertaindelayifthe
driver’sdoorwasopenedandclosedbutthe
carwasnotre-locked.DeactivatingatriggeredalarmPresstheUNLOCKbuttonontheremote
controlifthealarmsoundsandyouwishto
deactivateit.Twoshortflashesofthe
directionindicatorsaregivenasconfirmation.
AlarmsignalsAnaudiblesignalisgivenfromasirenwitha
reservebattery.Eachalarmsignallasts
25seconds.
Whenthealarmistriggered,alldirection
indicatorsflashfor5minutesoruntilthe
alarmisdeactivatedasdescribedearlier.
Temporarydeactivationof
detectorsanddeadlocksToavoidinadvertentlytriggeringthealarm,
forexamplewhenleavingadoginthecaror
duringaferrycrossing,themovementandtilt
detectorscanbetemporarilydeactivated:
–Insertthekeyintheignitionswitch,turnit
topositionIIandthenbacktopositionI
or0.
–Pressthebutton.
TheLEDinthebuttonlightsuntilyoulockthe
carwiththekeyorremotecontrol.
Amessageisshowninthedisplayaslongas
thekeyremainsintheignitionswitch.This

GeneralDonotoverloadthebatteryTheelectricalfunctionsinthecarloadthe
batterytovaryingdegrees.Avoidhavingthe
ignitionkeyinpositionIIwhentheengineis
turnedoff.UsepositionIinstead,asless
powerisused.The12voltoutletinthecargo
areasuppliespowerevenwhentheignition
keyisremoved.
Examplesoffunctionsthatusealotofpower:
ventilationfan
windscreenwipers
audiosystem
parkinglights.
Alsotakenoteofdifferentaccessoriesthat
loadtheelectricalsystem.Donotuse
functionstheconsumealotofcurrentwhen
theengineisswitchedoff.Atextisshownon
thedisplayinthecombinedinstrumentpanel
ifbatteryvoltageislowandremainsuntilthe
enginehasstarted.Theenergyeconomy
functionshutsdowncertainfunctionsor
reducestheloadonthebattery,e.g.by
loweringventilationfanspeedandswitching
offtheaudiosystem.
Chargethebatterybystartingtheengine.
Donotallowtheengineand
coolingsystemtooverheatUndercertainconditions,e.g.whendrivingin
hillyterrainorwithaheavyload,especiallyin
warmweather,thereisariskoftheengine
andcoolingsystemoverheating.
Toavoidthecoolingsystemoverheating
Driveatlowspeedsifdrivingwithatrailer
upalongincline.
Donotturntheengineoffimmediately
youstop,ifthecarhasbeendrivenhard.
Removeanyauxiliarylampsfrominfront
ofthegrilleifdrivinginextremehigh
temperatures.
Toavoidtheengineoverheating
Donotexceedenginespeedsof4500rpm
(dieselengine:3500rpm)ifdrivingwitha
trailerorcaravaninhillyterrain.Theoil
temperaturecanbecometoohigh.Donotdrivewiththetailgate
openIfyoudrivewiththetailgateopen,someofthe
exhaustgasesandpoisonouscarbon
monoxidecouldbesuckedintothecar
throughthecargoarea.Ifyoumustdrivea
shortdistancewiththetailgateopen,
proceedasfollows:
Closeallwindows.Distributetheairbetweenthewindscreen
andfloorwhilerunningthefanathigh
speed.

TowingandrecoveryDonotbumpstarttheengineIfyoubumpstartacarwithmanualgearbox,
thecatalyticconvertermaybedamaged.
Carswithautomaticgearboxcannotbebump
started.Useaboosterbatteryifthebatteryis
flat.IfthecarmustbetowedUnlockthesteeringwheellocksothatthe
carcanbesteered.
Keepinmindthehighestlegallypermis-
siblespeed.
Bearinmindthatthebrakeandpower
steeringservosdonotfunctionwhenthe
engineisoff.Approx.fivetimesmore
pressuremustbeexertedonthebrake
pedalandsteeringrequiresmuchmore
forcethanusual.
Drivegently.Keepthetowlinetautto
avoidunnecessaryjerking.
Forautomaticgearboxes
ThegearselectorshouldbeinpositionN.
Themaximumpermissiblespeedwhen
towingacarwithautomaticgearboxis
80km/h.
Onlytowwiththecarfacingforward.
Theenginecannotbebumpstarted.

discharged,youcan"borrow"currentfroma
sparebatteryoranothercar’sbatterytostart
theengine.Alwayscheckthattheclampsare
securesothattherearenosparksduringthe
startattempt.
Toavoidtheriskofexplosion,werecommend
youdoexactlyasfollows.
–Turntheignitionkeytoposition0.
–Ensurethattheboosterbatteryhas
12voltcurrent.
–Iftheboosterbatteryisinanothercar,
stoptheengineofthatcarandmakesure
thecarsarenottouching.
–Connecttheredcabletothepositive
terminal(1+)oftheboosterbatteryandtheredconnectioninyourcar’sengine
compartment(2+).
Connecttheclamptothecontactpoint
underasmallblackcoverwhichhasa
plussignonit.Thecoverisintegrated
withthefuseboxcover.
–Connectoneclampoftheblackcableto
thenegativeterminalofthebooster
battery(3–).
–Connecttheotherclampoftheblack
cabletotheliftingeyeonyourcar’s
engine(4–).
–Starttheengineofthe"donorcar".Let
theenginerunafewminutesataspeed
slightlyhigherthanidle1500rpm.
–Starttheengineofthecarwiththeflat
battery.
–Removetheclampsinreverseorder.NOTE!Donotremovetheclampsduringthe
startattempt;riskofsparkbuild-up.
